CsGaS2-mC64 was obtained by reaction of CsN3 with stoichiometric amounts of Ga2S3 and S at elevated temperatures. The crystal structure of the air- and moisture stable compound was determined from single-crystal X-ray diffraction data. The colourless solid crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2/c (no. 15) with the lattice parameters a = 10.5718(6) angstrom, b = 10.5708(6) angstrom, c = 16.0847(8) angstrom, ss = 99.445(4)degrees, V = 1773.1(2) angstrom(3), and Z = 16. The compound crystallizes in the TlGaSe2 structure type and features anionic layers (2)(infinity)[Ga4S84-] consisting of corner-sharing Ga4S10 supertetrahedra. At temperatures above 600 degrees C an irreversible phase-transition to CsGaS2-mC16 occurs. The phase-transition kinetics were studied using in situ high-temperature X-ray powder diffraction techniques. This transition can only be reversed by using high pressures (> 5 GPa at 500 degrees C). The compound was further characterized using Raman- and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. Chemical bonding was analysed by DFT calculations

A data support infrastructure for Clean Development Mechanism forestry implementation: an inventory perspective from Cameroon

Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) forestry project development requires highly multi-disciplinary and multiple-source information that can be complex, cumbersome and costly to acquire. Yet developing countries in which CDM projects are created and implemented are often data poor environments and unable to meet such complex information requirements. Using Cameroon as an example, the present paper explores the structure of an enabling host country data support infrastructure for CDM forestry implementation, and also assesses the supply potential of current forestry information. Results include a conceptual data model of CDM project data needs; the list of meso- and macro-level data and information requirements (Demand analysis); and an inventory of relevant data available in Cameroon (Supply analysis). From a comparison of demand and supply, we confirm that data availability and the relevant infrastructure for data or information generation is inadequate for supporting carbon forestry at the micro, meso and macro-levels in Cameroon. The results suggest that current CDM afforestation and reforestation information demands are almost impenetrable for local communities in host countries and pose a number of cross-scale barriers to project adoption. More importantly, we identify proactive regulatory, institutional and capacity building policy strategies for forest data management improvements that could enhance biosphere carbon management uptake in poor countries. CDM forestry information research needs are also highlighted

Ifosfamide/etoposide alternating with high-dose methotrexate: evaluation of a chemotherapy regimen for poor-risk osteosarcoma

Fifteen patients with relapsed osteosarcoma were treated with an intensive combination chemotherapy schedule. Ifosfamide 2.5 g m−2 daily and etoposide 150 mg m−2 daily coincidentally for 3 days and high-dose methotrexate 8 g m−2 (with folinic acid rescue) on days 10–14 in a planned 21-day cycle. Feasibility, toxicity and response to this alternative combination for the treatment of relapsed osteosarcoma was assessed. There were 98 evaluable cycles for toxicity and tolerability. The majority of cycles were well tolerated. Haematological toxicity of grade 3/4 (common toxicity criteria) was seen in all courses. Renal tubular loss of electrolytes, particularly magnesium, occurred in 71% of cycles. Thirteen per cent of cycles were repeated within 21 days and 61% within 28 days. In the thirteen patients evaluable for response, a partial response rate of 31% was seen after two cycles. However, patients with stable disease continued on therapy, and an overall consequent response rate of 62% was observed. Four patients were alive with no evidence of disease at 8–74 months. Three are alive with disease (at 8–19 months). There were six deaths, all disease related. This regimen exhibits an encouraging response rate in a group of children with poor prognosis disease, with a tolerable toxicity profile. © 1999 Cancer Research Campaig

We present results of an analysis of the reaction γγωϱγγ→ωϱ in the two-photon process e+eϵ+e2π+2ππ0e^+e^−→ϵ^+e^−2π^+2π^−π^0 in the untagged mode. The cross section is largely compatible with previous determinations; however, we do not confirm the enhancement claimed at 1.9 GeV. All observed ω's are accompanied by ϱ's in the recoiling ππ spectrum. An angular correlation analysis shows that the data is not dominated by a single spin-parity state, thus establishing severe constraints on qqqqqqqq models which predict JP=2+JP= 2^+

The intermittency structure of multihadronic e+e- annihilation is analyzed by evaluating the factorial moments F2-F5 in three-dimensional Lorentz invariant phase space as a function of the resolution scale. We interpret our data in the language of fractal objects. It turns out that the fractal dimension depends on the resolution scale in a way that can be attributed to geometrical resolution effects and dynamical effects, such as the pi-O Dalitz decay. The LUND 7.2 hadronization model provides an excellent description of the data. There is no indication of unexplained multiplicity fluctuations in small phase space regions
