An integrated-optical wavelength sensor for detecting wavelength shifts of light sources as laserdiodes, superluminescentdiodes and Nd:YAG lasers is reported. The output signal can be used to stabilize the light source. The basic element of the integrated-optical wavelength sensor is an asymmetric Mach-Zehnder-interferometer. The amount of its phase sensitivity is determined by the path length difference between the interferometer arms. Because of the temperature dependence of the effective refractive index and the thermal expansion of the substrate, the sensor also shows a temperature sensitivity. For the realization of a special sensor application, e.g. wavelength sensor, the compensation of thermally induced phase shifts would be desirable. Thus purpose requires some difference of the thermal coefficients. Based on the electro-optic material LiNbO_3 and the waveguide fabrication technique of annealed proton-exchange (APE) a methode was developed to compensate thermally induced phase shifts. It was shown that the temperature compensation can be reached by insertion of a not annealed (PE) segment with another thermo-optic coefficient than the annealed proton-exchanged channel waveguide. An integrated-optical component for electrical controllable colour mixing of red, green and blue laser light is reported. Its operation principle was simulated, optimized structures were constructed, realized and tested by help of single components for beam splitting, beam combination and modulation. They were integrated into a compact device for beam combination of a system of basic colours with the opportunity of selective amplitude modulation for mixing of a desired colour. The devices were realized in potassium titanyl phosphate. The properties of different substrates were classified, the parameters of ion exchange were varied and the physical properties of the waveguides were investigated and optimized leading to a special technological process. The integrated-optical three colour mixer can be applied in all types of colour image generation systems where the optical power is not higher than 100 mW like small displays or virtual image displays.
