Analysis of Landscape Interior on the Site of Riparian Fortifications of Fortress Complex Barbariga in Croatia

The fortress landscape of the Croatian location of Barbariga, being the object of our research is a culture landscape, resultant in the consequence of transformation of a natural seashore into a complex of military defensive works. It has several specific features, which were taken into consideration while creating a simplified graphic method of an open landscape analysis, whose main element of composition is fortress greenery and the fortifications in the form of well preserved, Austrian military buildings from the turn of the 19th and 20th century. The conclusions which arise from the conducted analyses concern the problem of reproduction of historical vegetation concealing the military objects, which have lost their original functions. Inconsiderate reconstruction of the greenery may cause the loss of the landscape values

Fortyfication Objects of Prussian Ring Fortresses in Poznań and Wrocław (from XIX–XX Cent.) in Current Spatial Planning Documents – Functioning, Protection, Landscape Shaping

Fortyfikacje są cennymi elementami dziedzictwa kulturowego obecnymi w wielu polskich miastach. Niestety nie zawsze są właściwie chronione i wykorzystywane, mimo że nierzadko mają status obiektów zabytkowych. Narzędzi potencjalnie umożliwiających wzmocnienie ochrony fortyfikacji dostarcza planowanie przestrzenne. Badania obejmowały szczegółową analizę zapisów zawartych w studiach uwarunkowań i kierunków zagospodarowania przestrzennego oraz miejscowych planach zagospodarowania przestrzennego, dotyczących twierdz pierścieniowych w Poznaniu i Wrocławiu. W studiach uwarunkowań i kierunków zagospodarowania przestrzennego obu miast można znaleźć odniesienia do położenia i wykorzystania twierdz pierścieniowych. Tereny fortyfikacji w Poznaniu objęte są 9 miejscowymi planami zagospodarowania przestrzennego, 5 kolejnych planów obejmujących swoim zasięgiem fortyfikacje znajduje się w przygotowaniu. Fortyfikacje twierdzy pierścieniowej we Wrocławiu objęte były 9 miejscowymi planami zagospodarowania przestrzennego. Wyniki analiz dokumentów planistycznych wskazują na niewykorzystywanie w pełni narzędzi umożliwiających ochronę fortyfikacji, oferowanych przez system planowania przestrzennego. W opracowaniach pomijany jest kontekst i walory krajobrazowe fortyfikacji, brak prób wiązania terenów zieleni fortecznej w system oraz – w przypadku Wrocławia – brak ujmowania zieleni na fortyfikacjach jako istotnego waloru. W większości przypadków w opracowaniach występuje niska szczegółowość zapisów związanych z ochroną obiektów historycznych.Fortifications are valuable elements of cultural heritage of many Polish cities. Unfortunately, in many cases they are not properly used and protected, although some of them have the status of historical monuments. Potentially, tools for strengthening protection of fortifications are provided by spatial planning system. The research was based on detailed analysis of the Study of the Conditions and Directions of the Spatial Management of a Communes and Local Spatial Management Plans, including the area of ring fortresses in Poznań and Wrocław. In the Study of the Conditions and Directions of the Spatial Management of a Commune of both cities one can find references to the location and use of ring fortifications. The area of fortification objects in Poznan is covered by 9 Local Spatial Management Plans, 5 further plans covering the fortifications are in preparation. The area of ring fortress in Wroclaw were covered by 9 Local Spatial Management Plans. The results of the analysis of the spatial planning documents show that the tools used to protect the fortifications offered by the spatial planning system are not fully exploited. The context and landscape values of the fortifications are ignored in most of the plans. Also one can find in spatial planning documents the lack of attempts to link fortress greenery to the greenery system, and, in the case of Wroclaw, the lack of describing fortification greenery as a valuable asset. In most cases, principals of the fortifications objects protection are not enough detailed
