PUBLIC PERCEPTIONS OF BIOTECHNOLOGY AND ACCEPTANCE OF GENETICALLY MODIFIED FOOD
Public debate on biotechnology is embroiled in controversy over the risks and benefits associated with this emerging technology. Using data from a national survey, this study analyzes public acceptance of biotechnology in food production. Empirical results suggest that while there is general optimism about biotechnology, and support for its use in plants, public approval of its use in animals is perhaps more limited. Younger and more educated individuals are generally more supportive of biotechnology. Attitudes towards biotechnology differ substantially between males and females, and between whites and non-whites. While people's religious and social views, confidence in scientists, corporations and government have significant influence, income and regional differences do not have significant effects on public acceptance of biotechnology.Consumer/Household Economics,
CONSUMER ACCEPTANCE OF FOOD BIOTECHNOLOGY: WILLINGNESS TO BUY GENETICALLY MODIFIED FOOD PRODUCTS
Biotechnology is often viewed as the defining technology for the future of food and agriculture with the potential to deliver a wide range of economic and health benefits. Public acceptance of genetically modified food products is a critical factor for this emerging technology. Using data from a national survey, this study examines public acceptance of food biotechnology by modeling consumers' willingness to buy genetically modified foods. Empirical results suggest that younger, white, male and college educated individuals are more likely to accept food biotechnology. Public confidence in scientists, corporations, as well as government has significant effects on consumer acceptance of food biotechnology. While religious views influence consumer acceptance of food biotechnology, income and social/political orientations do not have significant effects. Empirical results indicate regional differences in the acceptance of genetically modified foods.Consumer/Household Economics,
UNCOVERING FACTORS INFLUENCING PUBLIC PERCEPTIONS OF FOOD BIOTECHNOLOGY
Significant divergence exists in public opinions about biotechnology. Although there is broad support for plant biotechnology for health benefits, opinions differ on the issue of animal genetics for pure economic benefits. While some are opposed to it, many are undecided about genetically modified foods. Considerable skepticism exists about scientists, corporations and government which have negative influence on public acceptance of food biotechnology. Consumers' personal attributes have significant influence on their views about various biotechnology issues.Research and Development/Tech Change/Emerging Technologies,
A Non-invasive Technique to Detect Authentic/Counterfeit SRAM Chips
Many commercially available memory chips are fabricated worldwide in
untrusted facilities. Therefore, a counterfeit memory chip can easily enter
into the supply chain in different formats. Deploying these counterfeit memory
chips into an electronic system can severely affect security and reliability
domains because of their sub-standard quality, poor performance, and shorter
lifespan. Therefore, a proper solution is required to identify counterfeit
memory chips before deploying them in mission-, safety-, and security-critical
systems. However, a single solution to prevent counterfeiting is challenging
due to the diversity of counterfeit types, sources, and refinement techniques.
Besides, the chips can pass initial testing and still fail while being used in
the system. Furthermore, existing solutions focus on detecting a single
counterfeit type (e.g., detecting recycled memory chips). This work proposes a
framework that detects major counterfeit static random-access memory (SRAM)
types by attesting/identifying the origin of the manufacturer. The proposed
technique generates a single signature for a manufacturer and does not require
any exhaustive registration/authentication process. We validate our proposed
technique using 345 SRAM chips produced by major manufacturers. The silicon
results show that the test scores ( score) of our proposed technique of
identifying memory manufacturer and part-number are 93% and 71%, respectively.Comment: This manuscript has been submitted for possible publication.

Just in Time on Mechanical and Electrical Implementation in Leedon Hotel Surabaya
Mechanical electrical and plumbing (MEP) job is a job in construction project and the implementation is conducted after the workers conduct structural work. The use of materials has an important part from project total cost because waste will be happened if it is used uncontrollable. The aim of this study was identifying JIT application to electrical work in Leedon Hotel Surabaya. The condition before the researcher implemented JIT in Leedon Hotel project, it was identified waste caused by design change, lack of coordination between project and Head Office, and materials availability with excess material stocks. The limited size of the warehouse as MEP materials storage made the material storage not optimal and it had potential to be waste. Applying just in time concept had a focus on waste elimination by planning - needs - use in the field based on the application of JIT method in the Leedon Hotel project. Limited warehouse conditions could still carry out material control without using excess material inventory which had an impact on minimizing the emergence of waste
Temperature effect analysis on magneto-rheological damper’s performance
Magnetorheological (MR) damper is one of the most advanced applications of semi active damper in controlling vibration. Its use is increasing day by day in the vehicle suspension system due to its continuous controllability in both on and off state. MR damper’s damping force can be controlled by changing the viscosity of its internal magnetorheological fluids (MRF). Applying an external magnetic field viscosity of MRF can be controlled. Electromagnet such as solenoid coil is normally used as external magnetic field source. These coils are attached inside the damper’s piston head. When the damper operates these coils create heat. That’s why the conventional MR dampers normally face wide variations in temperature. This change of temperature results decay in MRF viscosity as well as post-yield damping of the damper. In this paper temperature effect on MR fluids viscosity and on MR dampers performance represented analytically and experimentally. Due to this temperature effect the deviation of MR dampers performance has shown here experimentally. Also a novel technique for solving the problem explained clearly
