Comments on black holes I: The possibility of complementarity

    Get PDF
We comment on a recent paper of Almheiri, Marolf, Polchinski and Sully who argue against black hole complementarity based on the claim that an infalling observer 'burns' as he approaches the horizon. We show that in fact measurements made by an infalling observer outside the horizon are statistically identical for the cases of vacuum at the horizon and radiation emerging from a stretched horizon. This forces us to follow the dynamics all the way to the horizon, where we need to know the details of Planck scale physics. We note that in string theory the fuzzball structure of microstates does not give any place to 'continue through' this Planck regime. AMPS argue that interactions near the horizon preclude traditional complementarity. But the conjecture of 'fuzzball complementarity' works in the opposite way: the infalling quantum is absorbed by the fuzzball surface, and it is the resulting dynamics that is conjectured to admit a complementary description.Comment: 34 pages, 6 figures, v3: clarifications & references adde

Education is a basic need of the main and important in our lives. Access to education is one of the most important lines in boosting development in all aspects of life, in particular towards the development of intelligence and skills in community in accordance with Act No. 20 of 2003 on the Organization of education. Follow up on Act No. 20 of 2003, the Central Government made compulsory, with the compulsory education renders justice, can be enjoyed throughout the kids at school age in this country. In realizing this compulsory, the Government of the city of Pekanbaru develop equitable access to quality primary education and nine years and a 12-year compulsory education stub supported by means of an adequate infrastructure and energy professional education as well as the improvement of the governance of the education scale national standards. In this research the concept of theory used the author refers to the theory of management according to G.R. Terry, stating that management is the process of planning, organizing, implementing and monitoring. This research uses descriptive method using qualitative data. Then in the collection of data the author uses data collection techniques include observation, interview and documentation.Based on the research results obtained that the implementation of a 12-year compulsory education program in the city of Pekanbaru has not done due to the large number of constraints still faced in the process of its implementation. Pekanbaru City Government should have special rules that define the execution of this program

Non-extremal Black Hole Microstates: Fuzzballs of Fire or Fuzzballs of Fuzz ?

We construct the first family of microstate geometries of near-extremal black holes, by placing metastable supertubes inside certain scaling supersymmetric smooth microstate geometries. These fuzzballs differ from the classical black hole solution macroscopically at the horizon scale, and for certain probes the fluctuations between various fuzzballs will be visible as thermal noise far away from the horizon. We discuss whether these fuzzballs appear to infalling observers as fuzzballs of fuzz or as fuzzballs of fire. The existence of these solutions suggests that the singularity of non-extremal black holes is resolved all the way to the outer horizon and this "backwards in time" singularity resolution can shed light on the resolution of spacelike cosmological singularities.Comment: 34 pages, 10 figure

Acardiac acephalus twin: A case report

    Get PDF
Acardiac acephalus twin is a rare complication of monochorionic twinning. A case of a 26year old who presented to the emergency unit of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital [UMTH] with ultrasound report of non viablebut morphologically normal twin pregnancy is presented. She was delivered of a twin still born; one apparently normal and an acardiac twin.Key words: Multiple pregnancy, Ultrasound scan, Acardiac twi

New D1-D5-P geometries from string amplitudes

We derive the long range supergravity fields sourced by a D1-D5-P bound state from disk amplitudes for massless closed string emission. We suggest that since the parameter controlling the string perturbation expansion for this calculation decreases with distance from the bound state, the resulting asymptotic fields are valid even in the regime of parameters in which there is a classical black hole solution with the same charges. The supergravity fields differ from the black hole solution by multipole moments and are more general than those contained within known classes of solutions in the literature, whilst still preserving four supersymmetries. Our results support the conjecture that the black hole solution should be interpreted as a coarse-grained description rather than an exact description of the gravitational field sourced by D1-D5-P bound states in this regime of parameters.Comment: 48 pages, 2 figures, v2: typos correcte

D1D5 microstate geometries from string amplitudes

    Get PDF
We reproduce the asymptotic expansion of the D1D5 microstate geometries by computing the emission amplitudes of closed string states from disks with mixed D1D5 boundary conditions. Thus we provide a direct link between the supergravity and D-brane descriptions of the D1D5 microstates at non-zero string coupling. Microscopically, the profile functions characterizing the microstate solutions are encoded in the choice of a condensate for the twisted open string states connecting D1 and D5 branes.Comment: 21 pages; added reference

On CSP and the Algebraic Theory of Effects

We consider CSP from the point of view of the algebraic theory of effects, which classifies operations as effect constructors or effect deconstructors; it also provides a link with functional programming, being a refinement of Moggi's seminal monadic point of view. There is a natural algebraic theory of the constructors whose free algebra functor is Moggi's monad; we illustrate this by characterising free and initial algebras in terms of two versions of the stable failures model of CSP, one more general than the other. Deconstructors are dealt with as homomorphisms to (possibly non-free) algebras. One can view CSP's action and choice operators as constructors and the rest, such as concealment and concurrency, as deconstructors. Carrying this programme out results in taking deterministic external choice as constructor rather than general external choice. However, binary deconstructors, such as the CSP concurrency operator, provide unresolved difficulties. We conclude by presenting a combination of CSP with Moggi's computational {\lambda}-calculus, in which the operators, including concurrency, are polymorphic. While the paper mainly concerns CSP, it ought to be possible to carry over similar ideas to other process calculi

Excitations in the deformed D1D5 CFT

    Get PDF
We perform some simple computations for the first order deformation of the D1D5 CFT off its orbifold point. It had been shown earlier that under this deformation the vacuum state changes to a squeezed state (with the further action of a supercharge). We now start with states containing one or two initial quanta and write down the corresponding states obtained under the action of deformation operator. The result is relevant to the evolution of an initial excitation in the CFT dual to the near extremal D1D5 black hole: when a left and a right moving excitation collide in the CFT, the deformation operator spreads their energy over a larger number of quanta, thus evolving the state towards the infrared.Comment: 26 pages, Latex, 4 figure
