D0D0bar Quantum Correlations, Mixing, and Strong Phases

Due to the presence of the quantum correlation between the pair-produced D0 and D0bar from the decay of the psi(3770), the time-integrated single and double tag decay rates depend on charm mixing amplitudes, doubly-Cabibbo-suppressed amplitudes, and the relative strong phase, delta, between D0 and D0bar decays to identical final states. Using 281 pb^-1 of integrated luminosity collected with the CLEO-c detector on the psi(3770) resonance, we measure the absolute branching fractions of D0 decays to K-pi+, CP eigenstates, and semileptonic final states to determine cos(delta) for K-pi+ and to limit the mixing amplitude y.Comment: 3 pages, to appear in the Proceedings of PANIC'05 (Particles and Nuclei International Conference), Santa Fe, NM, October 24-28 200

    Reconstructed Jets at RHIC

To precisely measure jets over a large background such as pile up in high luminosity p+p collisions at LHC, a new generation of jet reconstruction algorithms is developed. These algorithms are also applicable to reconstruct jets in the heavy ion environment where large event multiplicities are produced. Energy loss in the medium created in heavy ion collisions are already observed indirectly via inclusive hadron distributions and di-hadron correlations. Jets can be used to study this energy loss in detail with reduced biases. We review the latest results on jet-medium interactions as seen in A+A collisions at RHIC, focusing on the recent progress on jet reconstruction in heavy ion collisions.Comment: Proceedings for the 26th Winter Workshop on Nuclear Dynamic

The Antares Neutrino Telescope and Multi-Messenger Astronomy

Antares is currently the largest neutrino telescope operating in the Northern Hemisphere, aiming at the detection of high-energy neutrinos from astrophysical sources. Such observations would provide important clues about the processes at work in those sources, and possibly help solve the puzzle of ultra-high energy cosmic rays. In this context, Antares is developing several programs to improve its capabilities of revealing possible spatial and/or temporal correlations of neutrinos with other cosmic messengers: photons, cosmic rays and gravitational waves. The neutrino telescope and its most recent results are presented, together with these multi-messenger programs.Comment: 10 pages, 7 figures. Zika virus: New clinical syndromes and its emergence in the western hemisphere

    Get PDF
Zika virus (ZIKV) had remained a relatively obscure flavivirus until a recent series of outbreaks accompanied by unexpectedly severe clinical complications brought this virus into the spotlight as causing an infection of global public health concern. In this review, we discuss the history and epidemiology of ZIKV infection, recent outbreaks in Oceania and the emergence of ZIKV in the Western Hemisphere, newly ascribed complications of ZIKV infection, including Guillain-Barré syndrome and microcephaly, potential interactions between ZIKV and dengue virus, and the prospects for the development of antiviral agents and vaccines

Particle Production at the SPS and the QCD Phase Diagram

Recent results of particle production in the energy regime of the CERN-SPS are reviewed. In order to collect information on the properties of the QCD phase diagram systematic studies of the system size and the energy dependence of particle production in heavy ion collisions have been performed. Net-baryon distributions and results on strangeness production are discussed. The system size dependence of many observables can be understood in the core-corona approach, which has implications on the possibility to use system size as a control parameter to study different areas of the phase diagram. Recent attempts to search for a critical point, such as multiplicity fluctuations and the transverse mass dependence of anti-baryon/baryon ratios are reviewed.Comment: Proccedings of 26th Winter Workshop on Nuclear Dynamics, 9 pages, 7 figure
