    Efficacy and safety profiles of manidipine compared with amlodipine: A meta-analysis of head-to-head trials

    The aim of this meta-analysis was to compare the efficacy and safety profile of manidipine 20 mg with that of amlodipine 10 mg. A systematic research of quantitative data produced or published between 1995 and 2009 was performed. Head-to-head randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of 12 months minimum duration reporting comparative efficacy (changes in systolic and diastolic blood pressure) and safety (total adverse events and ankle oedema), were included. Four high-quality RCTs, accounting for 838 patients (436 received manidipine and 402 received amlodipine) were included. The effi cacy of manidipine and amlodipine was statistically equivalent: effect size for DBP =−0.08 (p = 0.22) and SBP =−0.01 (p =0.83).The global safety of manidipine was signifi cantly better than amlodipine: the relative risk (RR) for adverse event was 0.69 (0.56 – 0.85), and particularly for ankle oedema RR was 0.35 (0.22 – 0.54). Publication bias was not signifi cant and the robustness of the analyses was good. These data suggest a better efficacy/safety ratio of manidipine over amlodipine

    Phenotypic, transcriptomic, and genomic features of clonal plasma cells in light-chain amyloidosis

    Immunoglobulin light-chain amyloidosis (AL) and multiple myeloma (MM) are 2 distinct monoclonal gammopathies that involve the same cellular compartment: clonal plasma cells (PCs). Despite the fact that knowledge about MM PC biology has significantly increased in the last decade, the same does not apply for AL. Here, we used an integrative phenotypic, molecular, and genomic approach to study clonal PCs from 24 newly diagnosed patients with AL. Through principal-component-analysis, we demonstrated highly overlapping phenotypic profiles between AL and both monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance and MM PCs. However, in contrast to MM, highly purified fluorescence-activated cell-sorted clonal PCs from AL (n = 9) showed almost normal transcriptome, with only 38 deregulated genes vs normal PCs; these included a few tumor-suppressor (CDH1, RCAN) and proapoptotic (GLIPR1, FAS) genes. Notwithstanding, clonal PCs in AL (n=11) were genomically unstable, with a median of 9 copy number alterations (CNAs) per case, many of such CNAs being similar to those found in MM. Whole-exome sequencing (WES) performed in 5 AL patients revealed a median of 15 nonrecurrent mutations per case. Altogether, our results show that in the absence of a unifying mutation by WES, clonal PCs in AL display phenotypic and CNA profiles similar to MM, but their transcriptome is remarkably similar to that of normal PCs

    Observation of associated production of a ZZ boson with a DD meson in the~forward region

    A search for associated production of a ZZ boson with an open charm meson is presented using a data sample, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0fb1.0\,\mathrm{fb}^{-`} of proton--proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7\,TeV, collected by the LHCb experiment. %% Seven candidate events for associated production of a ZZ boson with a D0D^0 meson and four candidate events for a ZZ boson with a D+D^+ meson are observed with a combined significance of 5.1standard deviations. The production cross-sections in the forward region are measured to be σZμ+μ ⁣,D0=2.50±1.12±0.22pb\sigma_{Z\rightarrow\mu^+\mu^-\!,D^0} = 2.50\pm1.12\pm0.22pb σZμ+μ ⁣,D+=0.44±0.23±0.03pb,\sigma_{Z\rightarrow\mu^+\mu^-\!,D^+} = 0.44\pm0.23\pm0.03pb, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic.Comment: 18 pages, 2 figure

    Measurements of the B+B^+, B0B^0, Bs0B_s^0 meson and Λb0\Lambda_b^0 baryon lifetimes

    Measurements of bb-hadron lifetimes are reported using pppp collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0fb1^{-1}, collected by the LHCb detector at a centre-of-mass energy of 77Tev. Using the exclusive decays B+J/ψK+B^+\to J/\psi K^+, B0J/ψK(892)0B^0\to J/\psi K^*(892)^0, B0J/ψKS0B^0\to J/\psi K^0_{\rm S}, Λb0J/ψΛ\Lambda_b^0\to J/\psi \Lambda and Bs0J/ψϕB^0_s\to J/\psi \phi the average decay times in these modes are measured to be τB+J/ψK+\tau_{B^+\to J/\psi K^+} = 1.637±1.637 \pm 0.004 ±\pm 0.003 ps, τB0J/ψK(892)0\tau_{B^0\to J/\psi K^*(892)^0} = 1.524±1.524 \pm 0.006 ±\pm 0.004 ps, τB0J/ψKS0\tau_{B^0\to J/\psi K^0_{\rm S}} = 1.499±1.499 \pm 0.013 ±\pm 0.005 ps, τΛb0J/ψΛ\tau_{\Lambda_b^0\to J/\psi \Lambda} = 1.415±1.415 \pm 0.027 ±\pm 0.006 ps and τBs0J/ψϕ\tau_{B^0_s\to J/\psi \phi} = 1.480±1.480 \pm 0.011 ±\pm 0.005 ps, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. These represent the most precise lifetime measurements in these decay modes. In addition, ratios of these lifetimes, and the ratio of the decay-width difference, ΔΓd\Delta\Gamma_d, to the average width, Γd\Gamma_d, in the B0B^0 system, ΔΓd/Γd=0.044±0.025±0.011\Delta \Gamma_d/\Gamma_d = -0.044 \pm 0.025 \pm 0.011, are reported.     Differential branching fraction and angular analysis of the decay B0→K∗0μ+μ−

    The angular distribution and differential branching fraction of the decay B 0→ K ∗0 μ + μ − are studied using a data sample, collected by the LHCb experiment in pp collisions at s√=7 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb−1. Several angular observables are measured in bins of the dimuon invariant mass squared, q 2. A first measurement of the zero-crossing point of the forward-backward asymmetry of the dimuon system is also presented. The zero-crossing point is measured to be q20=4.9±0.9GeV2/c4 , where the uncertainty is the sum of statistical and systematic uncertainties. The results are consistent with the Standard Model predictions

    Search for CP violation in D+KK+π+D^{+} \to K^{-}K^{+}\pi^{+} decays

    A model-independent search for direct CP violation in the Cabibbo suppressed decay D+KK+π+D^+ \to K^- K^+\pi^+ in a sample of approximately 370,000 decays is carried out. The data were collected by the LHCb experiment in 2010 and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 35 pb1^{-1}. The normalized Dalitz plot distributions for D+D^+ and DD^- are compared using four different binning schemes that are sensitive to different manifestations of CP violation.     Opposite-side flavour tagging of B mesons at the LHCb experiment

    The calibration and performance of the oppositeside flavour tagging algorithms used for the measurements of time-dependent asymmetries at the LHCb experiment are described. The algorithms have been developed using simulated events and optimized and calibrated with B + →J/ψK +, B0 →J/ψK ∗0 and B0 →D ∗− μ + νμ decay modes with 0.37 fb−1 of data collected in pp collisions at √ s = 7 TeV during the 2011 physics run. The oppositeside tagging power is determined in the B + → J/ψK + channel to be (2.10 ± 0.08 ± 0.24) %, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic

    Evaluation of classification algorithms in the Google Earth Engine platform for the identification and change detection of rural and periurban buildings from very high-resolution images

    [EN] Building change detection based on remote sensing imagery is a key task for land management and planning e.g., detection of illegal settlements, updating land records and disaster response. Under the post- classification comparison approach, this research aimed to evaluate the feasibility of several classification algorithms to identify and capture buildings and their change between two time steps using very-high resolution images (<1 m/pixel) across rural areas and urban/rural perimeter boundaries. Through an App implemented on the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform, we selected two study areas in Colombia with different images and input data. In total, eight traditional classification algorithms, three unsupervised (K-means, X-Means y Cascade K-Means) and five supervised (Random Forest, Support Vector Machine, Naive Bayes, GMO maximum Entropy and Minimum distance) available at GEE were trained. Additionally, a deep neural network named Feature Pyramid Networks (FPN) was added and trained using a pre-trained model, EfficientNetB3 model. Three evaluation zones per study area were proposed to quantify the performance of the algorithms through the Intersection over Union (IoU) metric. This metric, with a range between 0 and 1, represents the degree of overlapping between two regions, where the higher agreement the higher IoU values. The results indicate that the models configured with the FPN network have the best performance followed by the traditional supervised algorithms. The performance differences were specific to the study area. For the rural area, the best FPN configuration obtained an IoU averaged for both time steps of 0.4, being this four times higher than the best supervised model, Support Vector Machines using a linear kernel with an average IoU of 0.1. Regarding the setting of urban/rural perimeter boundaries, this difference was less marked, having an average IoU of 0.53 in comparison to 0.38 obtained by the best supervised classification model, in this case Random Forest. The results are relevant for institutions tracking the dynamics of building areas from cloud computing platfo future assessments of classifiers in likewise platforms in other contexts.[ES] La detección de cambios de áreas construidas basada en datos de teledetección es una importante herramienta para el ordenamiento y la administración del territorio p.e.: la identificación de construcciones ilegales, la actualización de registros catastrales y la atención de desastres. Bajo el enfoque de comparación post-clasificación, la presente investigación tuvo como objetivo evaluar la funcionalidad de varios algoritmos de clasificación para identificar y capturar las construcciones y su cambio entre dos fechas de análisis usando imágenes de alta resolución (<1 m/píxel) en ámbitos rurales y límites del perímetro urbano municipal. La anterior evaluación fue llevada a cabo a través de una aplicación desarrollada mediante la plataforma Google Earth Engine (GEE), donde se alojaron y analizaron diferentes imágenes y datos de entrada sobre dos áreas de estudio en Colombia. En total, ocho algoritmos de clasificación tradicional, tres no supervisados (K-means, X-Means y Cascade K-Means) y cinco supervisados (Random Forest, Support Vector Machine, Naive Bayes, GMO maximum Entropy y Minimum distance) fueron entrenados empleando GEE. Adicionalmente, se entrenó una red neuronal profunda denominada Feature Pyramid Networks (FPN) sobre la cual se aplicó la estrategia de modelos preentrenados, usando pesos del modelo EfficientNetB3. Por cada una de las dos áreas de estudio, tres zonas de evaluación fueron propuestas para cuantificar la funcionalidad de los algoritmos mediante la métrica Intersection over Union (IoU). Esta métrica representa la evaluación de la superposición de dos regiones y tiene un rango de valores de 0 a 1, donde a mayor coincidencia de las imágenes mayor es el valor de IoU. Los resultados indican que los modelos configurados con la red FPN tienen la mejor funcionalidad, seguido de los algoritmos tradicionales supervisados. Las diferencias de la funcionalidad fueron específicas por área de estudio. Para el ámbito rural, la mejor configuración de FPN obtuvo un IoU promedio entre ambas fechas de 0,4, es decir, cuatro veces el mejor modelo supervisado, correspondiente al Support Vector Machine de kernel Lineal con un IoU de 0,1. Respecto al área de límites del perímetro urbano municipal, esta diferencia fue menos marcada, con un IoU promedio de 0,53 en comparación con el 0,38 derivado del mejor modelo de clasificación supervisada, que en este caso fue Random Forest. Los resultados de esta investigación son relevantes para entidades responsables del seguimiento de las dinámicas de las áreas construidas a partir de plataformas de procesamiento en la nube como GEE, estableciendo una línea base para futuros estudios evaluando la funcionalidad de los clasificadores disponibles en otros contextos.Los autores agradecen a las Subdirecciones de Catastro, y Geografía y Cartografía del IGAC.     Observation of excited Lambda_b0 baryons

    Using pp collision data corresponding to 1.0 fb-1 integrated luminosity collected by the LHCb detector, two narrow states are observed in the Lambda_b0pi+pi- spectrum with masses 5911.97 +- 0.12(stat) +- 0.02(syst) +- 0.66(Lambda_b0 mass) MeV/c^2 and 5919.77 +- 0.08(stat) +- 0.02(syst) +- 0.66(Lambda_b0 mass) MeV/c^2. The significances of the observations are 5.2 and 10.2 standard deviations, respectively. These states are interpreted as the orbitally-excited Lambda_b0 baryons, Lambda_b*0(5912) and Lambda_b*0(5920).Comment: Replaced by version published in Phys. Rev.
