Theory of weakly nonlinear self sustained detonations

We propose a theory of weakly nonlinear multi-dimensional self sustained detonations based on asymptotic analysis of the reactive compressible Navier-Stokes equations. We show that these equations can be reduced to a model consisting of a forced, unsteady, small disturbance, transonic equation and a rate equation for the heat release. In one spatial dimension, the model simplifies to a forced Burgers equation. Through analysis, numerical calculations and comparison with the reactive Euler equations, the model is demonstrated to capture such essential dynamical characteristics of detonations as the steady-state structure, the linear stability spectrum, the period-doubling sequence of bifurcations and chaos in one-dimensional detonations and cellular structures in multi- dimensional detonations

Resonating Experiences of Self and Others enabled by a Tangible Somaesthetic Design

Digitalization is penetrating every aspect of everyday life including a human's heart beating, which can easily be sensed by wearable sensors and displayed for others to see, feel, and potentially "bodily resonate" with. Previous work in studying human interactions and interaction designs with physiological data, such as a heart's pulse rate, have argued that feeding it back to the users may, for example support users' mindfulness and self-awareness during various everyday activities and ultimately support their wellbeing. Inspired by Somaesthetics as a discipline, which focuses on an appreciation of the living body's role in all our experiences, we designed and explored mobile tangible heart beat displays, which enable rich forms of bodily experiencing oneself and others in social proximity. In this paper, we first report on the design process of tangible heart displays and then present results of a field study with 30 pairs of participants. Participants were asked to use the tangible heart displays during watching movies together and report their experience in three different heart display conditions (i.e., displaying their own heart beat, their partner's heart beat, and watching a movie without a heart display). We found, for example that participants reported significant effects in experiencing sensory immersion when they felt their own heart beats compared to the condition without any heart beat display, and that feeling their partner's heart beats resulted in significant effects on social experience. We refer to resonance theory to discuss the results, highlighting the potential of how ubiquitous technology could utilize physiological data to provide resonance in a modern society facing social acceleration.Comment: 18 page

A quantum heat engine with coupled superconducting resonators

We propose a quantum heat engine composed of two superconducting transmission line resonators interacting with each other via an optomechanical-like coupling. One resonator is periodically excited by a thermal pump. The incoherently driven resonator induces coherent oscillations in the other one due to the coupling. A limit cycle, indicating finite power output, emerges in the thermodynamical phase space. The system implements an all-electrical analog of a photonic piston. Instead of mechanical motion, the power output is obtained as a coherent electrical charging in our case. We explore the differences between the quantum and classical descriptions of our system by solving the quantum master equation and classical Langevin equations. Specifically, we calculate the mean number of excitations, second-order coherence, as well as the entropy, temperature, power and mean energy to reveal the signatures of quantum behavior in the statistical and thermodynamic properties of the system. Latinx Women’s Disordered Eating: Considering Culturally Relevant Variables in the Objectification Theory Framework

University of Missouri--Kansas City, 2018Using an objectification theory lens, the purpose of this study was to better understand religious/spiritual coping and acculturative stress as moderators in the relationship among sexual objectification, internalization of sociocultural standards of beauty, and disordered eating with a sample of 399 Latinx women. At the bivariate level, results suggested that experiences of sexual objectification were related to more internalization, acculturative stress, negative religious coping, and disordered eating. When examining internalization as a dependent variable, results suggested that, when sexual objectification, acculturation, acculturative stress, enculturation, negative religious coping, and positive religious coping were examined concurrently, acculturative stress and negative religious coping positively predicted internalization; and enculturation significantly negatively predicted internalization. When examining disordered eating as a dependent variable, results suggested that when sexual objectification, internalization, acculturation, acculturative stress, enculturation, negative religious coping, and positive religious coping were examined concurrently, only sexual objectification, internalization, and acculturative stress positively predicted disordered eating; and enculturation negatively predicted disordered eating. Moreover, post-hoc path analyses indicated that internalization predicted disordered eating; both acculturative stress and enculturation directly predicted internalization and disordered eating; and sexual objectification did not predict internalization. CELEBRATION OF THE MAWLID OF PROPHET MUHAMMAD SAW: RITUAL AND SHARE ISLAM VALUE IN INDONESIAN

Mawlid celebrations in several countries have become a sacred and festive agenda. The agenda was enlivened with great festivities and rituals to broadcast the struggle of the Prophet Muhammad to the people from the past until now. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the annual Mawlid celebration, between the ceremony and the nuances of rituals or symbols of Islam in Indonesia. This article is carried out by reviewing literature on ten international publications and other literature that has successfully discussed the celebration of the Prophet's Birthday or Maulid Nabi by Muslims, then analyzed in depth so that the results are valid and reliable with a phenomenological approach. The findings of this study are Muslims who hold Maulid celebrations equipped with rituals and announcements on a large scale. The celebration of Maulid provides an Islamic atmosphere for Muslims to learn about the history of the Prophet and to establish and participate in friendship with fellow believers who lived 14 different centuries from the Prophet in the struggle of Islam

From building blocks to programming: Investigating how best to integrate computational thinking into early years settings

This study aims to examine the different ways in which early years teachers lay solid foundations for computational thinking in the early years. Moreover, it aims to uncover the materials and activities that tend to run in the classroom background to promote computational thinking skills of children without being noticed as part of a daily routine. Therefore, it is designed to understand more about the attitudes of early childhood teachers towards computational thinking, the linkage between their attitudes and teaching practices, and the potential computational thinking benefits of children reaped from classroom games and activities

A Review and Assessment of Enterprise Resource Planning for Make-To-Order Companies

Many vendors of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems claim that their products are widely applicable - configurable to meet the needs of any business, whatever the product or service offering. However, producers of high-variety and bespoke products, such as Make-To-Order (MTO) companies, present particular challenges to implementation; it remains unclear whether ERP systems can cater for their needs.. This paper provides a state-of-the-art review of ERP systems and an assessment of the applicability of ERP to the MTO sector. While several comprehensive reviews of the ERP literature have previously been presented, these either do not focus on the MTO sector, or seek to assess the applicability of ERP systems, or give sufficient attention to recent developments in the fast moving ERP industry. In assessing applicability, this paper considers factors such as the planning and control stages of relevance to MTO companies, the typical size and supply chain positioning of MTO companies, and market-related features. The assessment concludes that there is a significant gap between the requirements of MTO companies and the functionality of ERP systems. One such gap is between the customer enquiry management and design & engineering processes of MTO companies and those supported by ERP systems. Eight key areas in need of further research are described. These include: providing effective decision support tools for customer enquiry management activities in the MTO sector, linking ERP systems with production planning and control concepts of relevance to MTO companies, and conducting an in-depth empirical study into existing applications of ERP systems in MTO companies and their impact on performance

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SELF-EFFICIENCY AND DEPRESSION AMONG EDUCATIONAL SCIENCES STUDENTS AT AL-ALBAYT UNIVERSITY

The aim of this study is to find out the relationship between selfefficiency and depression among educational sciences students at Al-albayt University, in the light of two variables: academic level and sex. The study was conducted on a sample of 193 students. Data was collected using general self-efficiency scale and Back depression checklist. ANOVA and correlation coefficient were used to find out the relationship between study variables. Results showed a high level of self-efficiency among subjects, as well as a negative relationship between self-efficiency and depression. However, results also showed that there is no statistically significant difference in the respondent’s responses due to their academic level or sex
