    Noise suppression in inverse weak value based phase detection

    We examine the effect of different sources of technical noise on inverse weak value-based precision phase measurements. We find that this type of measurement is similarly robust to technical noise as related experiments in the weak value regime. In particular, the measurements considered here are robust to additive Gaussian white noise and angular jitter noise commonly encountered in optical experiments. Additionally, we show the same techniques used for precision phase measurement can be used with the same technical advantages for optical frequency measurements.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figure

    Maximum stabilizer dimension for nonproduct states

    Composite quantum states can be classified by how they behave under local unitary transformations. Each quantum state has a stabilizer subgroup and a corresponding Lie algebra, the structure of which is a local unitary invariant. In this paper, we study the structure of the stabilizer subalgebra for n-qubit pure states, and find its maximum dimension to be n-1 for nonproduct states of three qubits and higher. The n-qubit Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger state has a stabilizer subalgebra that achieves the maximum possible dimension for pure nonproduct states. The converse, however, is not true: we show examples of pure 4-qubit states that achieve the maximum nonproduct stabilizer dimension, but have stabilizer subalgebra structures different from that of the n-qubit GHZ state.Comment: 6 page

    Nonproduct n-qubit pure states with maximum dimensional stabilizer subgroups of the group of local unitary transformations are precisely the generalized n-qubit Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states and their local unitary equivalents, for n greater than or equal to 3 but not equal to 4. We characterize the Lie algebra of the stabilizer subgroup for these states. For n=4, there is an additional maximal stabilizer subalgebra, not local unitary equivalent to the former.     Combination of measurements and the BLUE method

    The most accurate method to combine measurement from different experiments is to build a combined likelihood function and use it to perform the desired inference. This is not always possible for various reasons, hence approximate methods are often convenient. Among those, the best linear unbiased estimator (BLUE) is the most popular, allowing to take into account individual uncertainties and their correlations. The method is unbiased by construction if the true uncertainties and their correlations are known, but it may exhibit a bias if uncertainty estimates are used in place of the true ones, in particular if those estimated uncertainties depend on measured values.     Layers Revealed: A Documentary Featuring L.A. Contemporary Dance Company is a video thesis. The intention behind this film is set out to reveal the behind the scenes reality of concert dance, the intricacies that formulate the end product, and what it takes for a dancer to stay present in their craft. I am simply intrigued by the creative process of creating movement and believe everyone should be able to experience that reality. My objective is to inform audiences, of all backgrounds, whether you are a dancer or a nondancer, the small details that are involved in the creative process. It is rare that people, other than the dancers and choreographer, get to be in such an intimate environment. When I watch dance performances, I envision the rehearsal and all of the collaborative efforts that factor into what makes a dance what it is on stage. This is how Layers Revealed evolved and only hope that those who have viewed and will view this film can find a deeper appreciation for the soul, love, energy, and commitment necessary to build a dance show from scratch
