Inclusive workplaces : a review and model
Organizations continue to be challenged and enriched by the diversity of their workforces. Scholars are increasingly focusing on inclusion to enhance work environments by offering support for a diverse workforce. This article reviews and synthesizes the inclusion literature and provides a model of inclusion that integrates existing literature to offer greater clarity, as well as suggestions for moving the literature forward. We review the inclusion literature consisting of the various foci (work group, organization, leader, organizational practices, and climate) and associated definitions and how it has developed. We then describe themes in the inclusion literature and propose a model of inclusion. Finally, we end by discussing theoretical and practical implications

Developing a decadal-scale stalagmite record of hydroclimate and atmospheric variability for western Iberia (Portugal) during the Late Holocene
The hydroclimate of the Iberian Peninsula has been suggested to be persistently dry during Medieval times due to a persistently positive North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) mode (Trouet et al., 2009). However, modeling results and proxy records from the region indicate that substantial wet intervals likely occurred. We present a sub-decadal stable isotope record from a calcite stalagmite (Buraca Glorioso, 39⁰N, 8⁰W) showing an inferred variable hydroclimate during Medieval times (~800 to 1300 AD) during the Medieval Climate Anomaly (MCA). Calcite δ18O values at this location are dependent on the relative amounts of precipitation received. Drier (wetter) conditions would lead to more (less) evaporation during precipitation events and higher (lower) δ18O values. Winter precipitation in Portugal is strongly dependent on the behavior of the NAO and this record has important implications for study of the NAO and its behavior in the past. In this study δ18O and δ13C records from Portugal are compared with other proxy records from Morocco, Spain, and Scotland. Although this δ18O and δ13C record implies positive NAO conditions throughout much of the MCA, precipitation appears to have been more variable at this location than would be suggested by the NAO reconstruction of Trouet et al. (2009).
Oxygen and carbon isotope data from calcite stalagmites from the Portuguese cave, Buraca Glorioso, show variability that is inferred to be due to hydroclimatic changes in the region. . Long-term (greater than millennial-scale) changes in calcite δ18O values at this location are dependent on long-term solar insolation changes due to orbital parameters, while shorter-term variability is a result of Total Solar Irradiance (TSI) variability, volcanic forcing, and temperature and precipitation changes, due, in part, to internal modes of variability such as the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO). Variability in carbon isotopes (δ13C) appear to be dependent on volcanic forcing and temperature and precipitation variability. The δ18O and δ13C record from Portugal is compared with other relevant proxy records from stalagmites in Spain, Sweden, and Scotland, multi-proxy Northern Hemisphere temperature reconstructions, and pollen records from the Iberian Peninsula. The δ13C record from Buraca Glorioso is strikingly similar to records of other locations in the region, suggesting that Buraca Gloriso is recording regional climate variability. The main driver of isotopic variability on long time scales is insolation changes due to variability in the Earth orbital parameters. The δ18O and δ13C records from Buraca Glorioso both respond to large volcanic forcing events. Some small-scale variability is linked to changes in TSI and changes in temperature and precipitation as a result of internal climate mode (e.g. NAO) variability
Improving the integration of whole health into a veterans affairs outpatient primary care clinic.
Abstract
The annual $4.1 trillion price tag for healthcare with a simultaneous decline in patient health outcomes is the catalyst to change the current healthcare culture from disease-focused to a Whole Health wellness and prevention model. Transforming to preventative care would remedy the current costly healthcare system, thus Veterans Health Administration (VHA) set forth a mandate to implement Whole Health (WH) system wide. The purpose of this project was to provide a training program that facilitated the implementation of WH and improve the documentation of WH in the electronic health record (EHR). A needs assessment provided to the Fort Knox VA community based primary care clinic revealed a basic knowledge of the WH clinical documentation indicator (CDI), but no utilization of the indicator, an awareness of the WH benefits, but a concern for time constraints. There was a knowledge gap about WH services and documentation, but a desire to incorporate WH into their healthcare practice. The investigator hypothesized that a Whole Health and Documentation training program would change the Fort Knox staff’s documentation behavior and influence the integration of WH into the care of Fort Knox veterans. The VHA Whole Health Dashboard was used to track percentages of unique encounters into the WH and Complementary Integrative Health services. Chi-Square analysis was used to assess the staff’s documentation behavior change by using chart audits pre-intervention and post-intervention at 4- and 12-weeks for the WH narrative documentation X2 (2, N=105)=14.01
Self Esteem of College Age Adult Children of Alcoholics and Adult Children of Non-Alcoholics
Research is controversial in finding the role that parental alcoholism plays on an individual\u27s self-esteem. Some results have shown that alcoholism directly effects a person \u27s self-esteem whereas, other results have found family dysfunction of an alcoholic to effect self-esteem. The Children of Alcoholics Screening Test and The Self-Esteem Inventory were administered to 52 college students. No significant relationship between parental alcoholism and self-esteem was found . This finding is in agreement with most of the research on adult children of alcoholics

Outdoor nature program for Azalea Trails Girl Scout Resident Camp
This project offers a nature program that can be implemented into youth camp programs. Outdoor Residential Camp programs offered by youth organizations provide an outdoor camp experience for many children in the communty. Many offer participants resident summer camp programs which is a perfect venue for the outdoor experience. Children exposed to outdoor experiences develop a greater sense of responsibility to the natural environment around them. The schools are not doing enough to educate youth about the natural environment. This project was written specifically for the Azalea Trails Girl Scout Camp located in the San Jacinto Mountains of Southern California however, it could be adapted to be used at any residental camp setting
Sunrise Haiku Project: Learning to Trust
Born and raised in Illinois, I moved to the ocean during a major life transition, leaving behind the familiar: family, forest, and soil. This essay incorporates reflection, photographs, and haiku to represent sixteen months of journeying to the ocean sunrise everyday. The daily practice yielded unexpected insights, moments of deep healing, and growth. The biggest lesson for me was that no matter how thick the clouds and how strong my doubt, the sun will still rise. By witnessing the phenomenon of the sun rising everyday, I have been able to rise up through layers of self-doubt and grief, and begin moving into a place of sustained affirmation and trust
Direction of the Play: You Can\u27t Take It With You
This project encompasses background research, documentation, casting, directing, and post-production evaluation of Newport High School\u27s 2002 spring production of You Can\u27t Take it With You. The production thesis documentation includes research and analysis of the play and its literary origins, evaluation of the play as a production vehicle, and a discussion of the directorial vision for the actors, set, lighting, sound, costumes, makeup, and performance of the play
