Effect of Electrochemical Treatment on Electrical Conductivity of Conical Carbon Nanotubes

    Get PDF
Interaction of conical carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with hydrogen during electrochemical treatment and its effect on their electronic properties was studied. The temperature dependencies of electroconductivity of initial and electrochemically hydrogenated conical CNTs were investigated by using four-probe van der Pauw method. The studies revealed that the electrochemical hydrogen absorption leaded to a significant reduction in the electroconductivity of conical carbon nanotubes. We assume that these changes can be associated with a decrease in the concentration of charge carriers as a result of hydrogen localization on the carbon π-orbitals, the transition from sp2 to sp3 hybridization of conical CNTs band structure, and, therefore, a metal-semiconductor-insulator transition

    Immunotherapy in elderly patients

    Get PDF
In the recent years the growing life expectancy of the population and increasing cancer burden in elderly patients substantiate the urgent need for the search of optimal cancer treatment strategies. This article provides an overview of the current literature on the efficacy and safety of checkpoint inhibitors in the elderly population. A literature search for published studies using Medline (PubMed) and Elibrary databases was performed. All studies containing data on treatment results including tumor response criteria, treatment response rate, tumor control rate, overall survival were included. Case studies, animal studies and studies containing duplicate results were excluded from the analysis. In elderly patients with cancer there is a substantial number of comorbid conditions and functional disorders, which may decrease the efficacy and modulate the tolerability of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI). Besides, different changes associated with immunologic ageing, including thymolysis, increase of the number of memory B-cells and a decrease of hematopoesis intensity are observed. Several studies performed a comparative analysis of efficacy and toxicity of ICIs in elderly and younger patients. In most cases similar results for efficacy and toxicity were demonstrated. To evaluate the toxicity and the influence of treatment on functional status and other important measures in geriatric population further studies of factors, influencing the tolerability and treatment response of newer ICI in elderly cancer patients are needed, including additional adverse events associated with treatment

Mössbauer effect studies of thin iron films synthesized by ion beam assisted deposition technique

© 2018 Institute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved. The paper presents the results of Mössbauer effect studies of thin iron films obtained by ion-assisted deposition technique. It was found that the films obtained consist of several phases and have a perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. Magnetization direction can be changed by external magnetic field in sample plane

The efficacy of the reconstruction of the external robotic walking (RRH) on the device "Lokomat" in patients after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) in the early postoperative period (priori). The patients were divided into two groups: the study group (n=112) in patients whose priori to train walk on robotic device (EDM) and control group (n = 80), where the restoration was carried out in an active stereotype motoring instructor-led exercise therapy without use of mechanized equipment. Comparative analysis of the test results revealed more efficient recovery stereotype walk from the main group. In the analysis of the main group in the dynamics dinamoplantgrafii showed improvement in economic structure step, restoring the symmetry of the load while walking between the lower limbs, improved suspension function of the operated limb. According to the analysis parameter of the trajectory of migration center under the feet, we noted an increase in the effective axial load on the operated leg in the main group 1161.29 267.49 g/cm2 compared with the control group 460.28 52.42 g/cm2 (p ≤ 0,05). In the main group also showed a decrease of anxiety and increasing motivation. Conducted an X-ray - control the implanted joint in the long-term (12 months after surgery) did not show any signs of instability in the case of prosthetic components. Thus, conducting robotic training walk in patients in the early postoperative period is an effective and safe method of rehabilitation.

Development of technology for high-speed branding of titanium alloys

© Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd. Electrochemical stamping produces an oxide film on the titanium surface, which slows down the stamping process. In this paper, the task was set to develop technological methods that accelerate the process of stamping titanium alloys. Studies have shown that markings obtained from an electrolytes given in the work and according to the regime described in the work are stable, clear, contrasting, different in color from the base metal. The resulting marks have withstood repeated sterilization by boiling in water and a moisture resistance test
