Indole alkaloids and quassin from quassia africana
In our continuing phytochemical investigation of biologically active constituents from Simaroubaceae spp. we report here the occurrence in root barks of Quassia africana Baill. (syn. Simaba africana Baill.) of three alkaloids (canthin-6-one, 4,5-dimethoxycanthin-6-one, β-carboline-1-propionic acid) and quassin, an additional quassinoid different from those previously isolated from this plant (1). Their structures were established by spectroscopy and direct comparison with authentic samples. © 1986, American Chemical Society. All rights reserved.SCOPUS: ar.jinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe

Antitumor activity of quassinoids from Hannoa klaineana
Of the five quassinoids isolated from the root bark of Hannoa klaineana, only 15-desacetylundulatone was found active against P388 mouse lymphocytic leukemia cells and colon 38 adenocarcinoma. Undulatone and especially 15-O-β-glucopyranosyl-21-hydroxy-glaucarubolone were found to be more toxic while 6α-tigloyloxy-glaucarubol and 21-hydroxyglaucarubolone were found inactive. Structure-activity relationships are discussed. © 1991.SCOPUS: ar.jinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe
Gas liquid chromatographic determination of canthinone alkaloids inHannoa chlorantha root bark and tissue cultures
A capillary gas chromatographic method has been developed for the determination of canthinone alkaloids. The method was applied to the semi-quantitative determination of canthin-6-one, 1-methoxycanthin-6-one, 1-hydroxycanthin-6-one, 8-hydroxycanthin-6-one, 10-hydroxycanthin-6-one, and canthin-6-one-3-N-oxide in callus and shoot cultures, and in root barks of Hannoa chlorantha. The results showed that their concentrations were highly dependent on the sample origin and on the culture conditions.SCOPUS: ar.jFLWNAinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe
