    El estudio de la asociación genética dentro del modelo psicobiológico de personalidad de Zuckerman

    Following Zuckerman's psychobiological personality model, a series of genetic association hypotheses between some polymorphisms of Serotonin, Testosterone, Dopamine, MAO-A and COMT, and three temperamental traits (Impulsive Unsocialized Sensation Seeking, Neuroticism, and Extroversion-Sociability) were tested. In order to surpass previous limitations of this kind of studies: 1) the measurement of the phenotype was improved by using eight personality scales, and 2) some statistical analyses were conducted to test conjointly the effects of the considered polymorphisms. 252 participants from two samples (147 male inmates, and 105 male healthy volunteers) were analyzed. A tendency in the theoretical expected direction is reported when several polymorphisms are considered conjointly. The discussion section recommends applying more integrative frameworks to explore the complex paths from genetics to behavior.Partiendo del modelo de personalidad psicobiológico de Zuckerman se planean una serie de hipótesis de la asociación genética de diferentes polimorfismos de la serotonina, testosterona, dopamina, MAO-A y COMT, y tres rasgos temperamentales (Búsqueda impulsiva de sensaciones no socializada, Neuroticismo y Extroversión-sociabilidad). Para superar limitaciones anteriores de este tipo de estudios: 1) la medida fenotípica se mejoró usando ocho escalas para medir los constructos de personalidad, y 2) algunos análisis estadísticos fueron usados para estudiar conjuntamente los efectos de los polimorfismos. La muestra analizada se compuso de 252 participantes de dos muestras de hombres, una de 147 presos y otra de 105 voluntarios sanos. Los resultados informan que cuando se consideran conjuntamente todos los polimorfismos estu-diados se observa una tendencia en la dirección de las hipótesis formuladas. Publisher Copyright: © 2024 by the authors.In the present work, single- and double-dowel joints following different geometric configurations are experimentally and numerically investigated to derive the splitting behaviour of beech wood (Fagus sylvatica L.), one of the most widespread hardwood species in Europe for structural purposes. The influence of the spacing between dowels, their distance to the supports, and the slenderness of the beams is analysed. The correlation of the experimental failure loads with those predicted numerically by cohesive zone finite element-based models using the fracture properties of the species is discussed. The experimental results are also compared with those obtained from the normative expression included in Eurocode 5 and two other design models reported in the literature. The splitting failure loads predicted by both the analytical and numerical models were found to be conservative, the latter being closer to the experimental values.publishersversionpublishe

Publisher Copyright: © 2022, The Author(s).An experimental and numerical study on mode II fracture behaviour of European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) in the RL and TL crack propagation systems is performed. It is a hardwood species that has attracted increasing interest for structural use in Europe in recent years. Three-point end notched flexure tests are performed. The R-curves of both crack propagation systems are obtained, from which the critical strain energy release rate (GIIc) is derived by applying the compliance-based beam method. This data reduction scheme avoids crack length monitoring during its propagation, which is an advantage in wood. Using a direct method, the shear traction‐separation laws in mode II loading are determined. Full field displacements around the crack tip are monitored by 3D digital image correlation technique, and the crack tip shear displacements are analysed. The proposed method is numerically validated by finite element analysis. Cohesive zone models are developed implementing a shear traction–separation law with exponential damage evolution zone and the average value of the experimental elastic and fracture properties.     Clinical Characteristics and Risk Factors For Mortality During the \u27First Wave\u27 of COVID-19 In Reynosa, Tamaulipas

    Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted public health in Mexico. As of February 2020, there have been at least four waves of contagion that resulted in 5.82 million positive cases and more than 325 thousand deaths. At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, hospital and population-based information was available, frequently with non-specific symptoms. Little was known about the risk factors for mortality in specific conditions. We described the clinical characteristics of patients with COVID-19 in Reynosa, Tamaulipas during 2020 and identified the risk factors for mortality. Methods: The COVID-19 cases registered from March to November 2020 in Reynosa were divided into survivors and non-survivors. The study had a retrospective cohort design. Data was obtained from the platform of the Respiratory Disease Surveillance System (SISVER), belonging to the National Epidemiological Surveillance System (SINAVE) of the Mexican Ministry of Health (https://sinave.gob.mx/). The variables considered were the age and gender of each patient. Twenty-five symptoms were included (fever, cough, headache, myalgia, arthralgia, among others); the outcome variable was the detection of COVID-19. Associated comorbidities were diabetes, obesity, hypertension, among others. The outcome variable was mortality. Data were analyzed using χ2 tests, Mann-Whitney tests, principal component analysis, and the Cox regression model. Results:The highest number of COVID-19 cases and deaths was observed in July, in men between 36-40 years old. The most frequent symptoms (37-51%) were headache, fever, cough, myalgia, and arthralgia. Clinical characteristics between survivors and non-survivors were significant (P Conclusions: The most frequent symptoms in positive COVID-19 patients in Reynosa during 2020 were headache, fever, cough, myalgia, and arthralgia.
