    Financial Intermediation, Variability and the Development Process

    In this paper we have built a model of financial intermediation that explains the GDP variability pattern of an economy during the development process. In our model, per capita is more volatile in the middle-income economies than in both low and high-income economies. We show that, if the model economy is in the early or in the mature stages of development there is a unique equilibrium. However, in the middle stages of development multiple equilibria arise. Moreover, we find that in economies with imperfect credit markets, per capita output volatility tends to be higher than in economies with perfect or non-existent credit markets.Externalities, market imperfections, growth, multiple equilibria, sunspot equilibria

    Argentina's labor markets in an era of adjustment

    The current economic crisis in Argentina is only partly the result of inappropriate domestic policies to cope with the recent external shocks. Years of inappropriate policies have damaged Argentina's economy. Even if no external shocks had occurred, the country would still have to change the structure of production. Argentina has had trouble sustaining a program of structural adjustment. Its experiences provide policymakers with some lessons in designing a sustainable program to achieve price stability and change the incentive system : a) macroeconomic and trade policies must be consistent; b) labor relations and labor market institutions must be changed including the decentralization of wage bargaining and the elimination of traditional wage policies and general government intervention; c) rigidities and restrictions on labor mobility must be eliminated, leading to less pervasive government intervention in the form of restrictive regulations and spending patterns; and d) public spending must be profoundly changed to reduce social costs during the transition period.Economic Stabilization,Banks&Banking Reform,Municipal Financial Management,Environmental Economics&Policies,Economic Theory&Research

    Exploring the Relationship Between Emotion Recognition, Autistic Traits, and Alexithymia Traits in College Students

    Accurately recognizing and interpreting the emotions of others face, voice, and body language is a crucial component for successfully building good social skills with peers. This study explores emotional recognition in individuals with autistic traits, measured by the Autism Spectrum Quotient (AQ), and individuals with alexithymia traits, measured by Toronto Alexithymia Scale-20 (TAS-20). Individuals are presented with various complex emotions using Genova Emotion Recognition Short version (GERT-S). This present study examines the relationship between AQ and TAS-20 and determine if there is any interaction between them for emotional recognition. The researcher found that there was a negative correlation between autistic traits and emotional recognition abilities. The results also indicate that there was a positive correlation between autistic traits and alexithymia traits but they did not interact with each other for emotional recognition

    Coherent Pion Production by Neutrinos

    In this talk I review the main features of the coherent/diffractive pion production by neutrinos on nuclei. The method is based on PCAC and relates the reaction boson+nucleus→pion+nucleus\textbf{boson} + \textbf{nucleus} \to \textbf{pion} + \textbf{nucleus} to elastic pion-nucleus scattering. Estimates for the expected rates and distributions in neutrino reactions are presented with the help of hadronic data.     On the relationship between pump chirp and single-photon chirp in spontaneous parametric downconversion

    We study the chronocyclic character, i.e. the joint temporal and spectral properties, of the single-photon constituents of photon pairs generated by spontaneous parametric down conversion. In particular we study how single photon properties, including purity and single-photon chirp, depend on photon pair properties, including the type of signal-idler spectral and correlations and the level of pump chirp.Comment: 13 pages, 6 figure

    Ontogenetic Expression of Sonic Hedgehog in the Chicken Subpallium

    Sonic hedgehog (SHH) is a secreted signaling factor that is implicated in the molecular patterning of the central nervous system (CNS), somites, and limbs in vertebrates. SHH has a crucial role in the generation of ventral cell types along the entire rostrocaudal axis of the neural tube. It is secreted early in development by the axial mesoderm (prechordal plate and notochord) and the overlying ventral neural tube. Recent studies clarified the impact of SHH signaling mechanisms on dorsoventral patterning of the spinal cord, but the corresponding phenomena in the rostral forebrain are slightly different and more complex. This notably involves separate Shh expression in the preoptic part of the forebrain alar plate, as well as in the hypothalamic floor and basal plates. The present work includes a detailed spatiotemporal description of the singular alar Shh expression pattern in the rostral preoptic forebrain of chick embryos, comparing it with FoxG1, Dlx5, Nkx2.1, and Nkx2.2 mRNA expression at diverse stages of development. As a result of this mapping, we report a subdivision of the preoptic region in dorsal and ventral zones; only the dorsal part shows Shh expression. The positive area impinges as well upon a median septocommissural preoptic domain. Our study strongly suggests tangential migration of Shh-positive cells from the preoptic region into other subpallial domains, particularly into the pallidal mantle and the intermediate septum
