Background: the use of composite resins in odontology has become immensely widespread in recent years, mainly due to the aesthetic need of patients. Objective: to assess the clinical output of direct restorations with composite resins in class I and II lesions of posterior sectors, in patients treated at the dental department of the “Alberto Arcos Luque” Polyclinic of the municipality of Las Tunas, from September 2018 to October 2020.Methods: a prospective longitudinal intervention study was carried out at the aforementioned institution and during the period herein declared. The sample was selected through a non-probabilistic and intentional sampling and was made up of 192 patients. The assessment of the clinical quality of the restorations was measured at six and twelve months, with history taking, observation, palpation, as well as clinical and radiological exploration. The following parameters were considered: restoration displacement, painful symptomatology, restoration fracture, sensitivity to thermal changes, coloring changes and caries relapse. Results: 54,4 % of the restorations belonged to class I lesions. At 12 months, more than 95 % of the restorations remained in optimal condition, with a slight increase in the category of unacceptable, caused in 1,9 % by the integrity of the restoration and in 2,4 % by marginal adaptation and dental sensitivity. 20,6 % failed due to marginal filtration and 19 % presented sensitivity to thermal changes. 11,3 % of the class II restorations failed. 65,1 % of the patients were highly satisfied with the treatment. Conclusions: when assessing the restorations made, it was shown that nearly all of them maintained their characteristics in optimal conditions and only a small number constituted the failures.</p
