Low-loss, circularly-polarized dichroic plate
Dichroic plate has orthogonally-disposed, loaded dipole apertures with their orientations arranged so as to cancel cross-coupling effects which would otherwise result in power loss to circularly polarized signal
Low loss dichroic plate
A low loss dichroic plate is disclosed for passing radiation within a particular frequency band and reflecting radiation outside of that frequency band. The dichroic plate is comprised of a configuration of dipole elements defined by slots formed in a conductive plate. The slots are dimensioned so as to pass radiation of a selected frequency and are shaped so as to minimize the relationship between that frequency and the tilt angle of the plate relative to the direction of radiation. The slots are arranged so as to minimize signal power loss due to cross polarization effects
Multifractality and Conformal Invariance at 2D Metal-Insulator Transition in the Spin-Orbit Symmetry Class
We study the multifractality (MF) of critical wave functions at boundaries
and corners at the metal-insulator transition (MIT) for noninteracting
electrons in the two-dimensional (2D) spin-orbit (symplectic) universality
class. We find that the MF exponents near a boundary are different from those
in the bulk. The exponents at a corner are found to be directly related to
those at a straight boundary through a relation arising from conformal
invariance. This provides direct numerical evidence for conformal invariance at
the 2D spin-orbit MIT. The presence of boundaries modifies the MF of the whole
sample even in the thermodynamic limit.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
A simulation of solar convection at supergranulation scale
We present here numerical simulations of surface solar convection which cover
a box of 303.2 Mm with a resolution of
31582, which is used to investigate the dynamics of scales
larger than granulation. No structure resembling supergranulation is present;
possibly higher Reynolds numbers (i.e. higher numerical resolution), or
magnetic fields, or greater depth are necessary. The results also show
interesting aspects of granular dynamics which are briefly presented, like
extensive p-mode ridges in the k- diagram and a ringlike distribution
of horizontal vorticity around granules. At large scales, the horizontal
velocity is much larger than the vertical velocity and the vertical motion is
dominated by p-mode oscillations.Comment: Contribution to the proceedings of the workshop entitled "THEMIS and

Surface criticality and multifractality at localization transitions
We develop the concept of surface multifractality for
localization-delocalization (LD) transitions in disordered electronic systems.
We point out that the critical behavior of various observables related to wave
functions near a boundary at a LD transition is different from that in the
bulk. We illustrate this point with a calculation of boundary critical and
multifractal behavior at the 2D spin quantum Hall transition and in a 2D metal
at scales below the localization length.Comment: Published versio
