An alternative chitosan-based adsorbent modified by impregnation with deep eutectic solvent (DES) choline-chloride:urea at a molar ratio 1:2 proved efficient removal of the anthraquinone dye Acid Blue 80 (AB80) from aqueous solutions, and offered enhanced adsorption capacity compared to the starting materials. The adsorption was mainly affected by initial AB80 concentration, adsorbent dosage, contact time, and slightly influenced by temperature (25–45 °C), and pH (3.5–10). The pseudo-second-order kinetic model fitted the experimental data, and pseudo-first order model fitted as well at the highest AB80 concentration, 250 mg/L. The experimental data agreed with the Langmuir isotherm model, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 61.64 mg/g at 35 °C. The process was exothermic above 100 mg/L of dye and spontaneous up to 200 mg/L (T < 35 °C). The adsorbent could be reused without further treatment at least 5 times providing ≥40% removal, whereas the dye could be efficiently recovered by NaOH desorption. This work is based on the in-depth diploma course "Psychosocial accompaniment in scenes of violence" is governed by a formative pedagogical directive, which bases a critical, reflective, analytical exercise in efficiently identifying the risk factors and protective elements of the victims of the armed conflict. Thus, in its development, various activities are articulated under the basis of the units and themes of which the course consists, where the subjective narratives corresponding to the cases "Camilo" and "Peñas Coloradas" are analyzed from the point of view of the psychosocial affectation of the narrated victimizing events, as a product of the experiences of the communities in violent settings. The case study #2 "Camilo" and the case "Peñas Coloradas" provide an opportunity to better understand the context in which these violent dynamics occur. In order to achieve the set goals, it is necessary to listen to the oral narratives and asses the physical and psychological impacts of this violence on their quality of life. Using this oral narrative, it is possible to identify ways in which the actor can transform from being a victim of violence to a positive change agent. Through the support of multi-disciplinary professionals, the victim is able to reintegrate into society and make positive contributions to their community. During the lesson process, we were able to learn about the photo voice work, that shows us reality in a unique moment, let us to see facts, situations and experiences. For example, violence, that sometimes is not visible in a daily life, or that many times are part of these people lives. The photography is used as a working tool for some communicators through journalistic actions or psychosocial diagnoses in situations that occur in their environment and that sometimes are unnoticed; it is also possible to identify, represent and show each one of these realities in our society

It is currently being studied to apply the strategic integrated model on the occupational health process "SG SST", which was developed with particular emphasis on knowledge management. In this project, we took into account Colombia's current legislation (Decree 052/2017, 171/2016, 1072/2015), since, according to a qualitative research (based upon observation methodology) most employees ignored the health-related risks that they were exposed to. This paper aims to create and initiate and integrated strategic model that allows to prevent dangerous situations in workplaces from "Avícola los cambulos" company. This will be achieved through both diffusion and preservation of the management plan, by encouraging training sessions, lectures, and both social and educative practical workshops, in order to enhance socialization and get a proper up to date to stay improving

Adaptive remodeling of the bacterial proteome by specific ribosomal modification regulates Pseudomonas infection and niche colonisation

Post-transcriptional control of protein abundance is a highly important, underexplored regulatory process by which organisms respond to their environments. Here we describe an important and previously unidentified regulatory pathway involving the ribosomal modification protein RimK, its regulator proteins RimA and RimB, and the widespread bacterial second messenger cyclic-di-GMP (cdG). Disruption of rimK affects motility and surface attachment in pathogenic and commensal Pseudomonas species, with rimK deletion significantly compromising rhizosphere colonisation by the commensal soil bacterium P. fluorescens, and plant infection by the pathogens P. syringae and P. aeruginosa. RimK functions as an ATP-dependent glutamyl ligase, adding glutamate residues to the C-terminus of ribosomal protein RpsF and inducing specific effects on both ribosome protein complement and function. Deletion of rimK in P. fluorescens leads to markedly reduced levels of multiple ribosomal proteins, and also of the key translational regulator Hfq. In turn, reduced Hfq levels induce specific downstream proteomic changes, with significant increases in multiple ABC transporters, stress response proteins and non-ribosomal peptide synthetases seen for both ΔrimK and Δhfq mutants. The activity of RimK is itself controlled by interactions with RimA, RimB and cdG. We propose that control of RimK activity represents a novel regulatory mechanism that dynamically influences interactions between bacteria and their hosts; translating environmental pressures into dynamic ribosomal changes, and consequently to an adaptive remodeling of the bacterial proteome

Host adaptive immunity deficiency in severe pandemic influenza

INTRODUCTION: Pandemic A/H1N1/2009 influenza causes severe lower respiratory complications in rare cases. The association between host immune responses and clinical outcome in severe cases is unknown. METHODS: We utilized gene expression, cytokine profiles and generation of antibody responses following hospitalization in 19 critically ill patients with primary pandemic A/H1N1/2009 influenza pneumonia for identifying host immune responses associated with clinical outcome. Ingenuity pathway analysis 8.5 (IPA) (Ingenuity Systems, Redwood City, CA) was used to select, annotate and visualize genes by function and pathway (gene ontology). IPA analysis identified those canonical pathways differentially expressed (P < 0.05) between comparison groups. Hierarchical clustering of those genes differentially expressed between groups by IPA analysis was performed using BRB-Array Tools v.3.8.1. RESULTS: The majority of patients were characterized by the presence of comorbidities and the absence of immunosuppressive conditions. pH1N1 specific antibody production was observed around day 9 from disease onset and defined an early period of innate immune response and a late period of adaptive immune response to the virus. The most severe patients (n = 12) showed persistence of viral secretion. Seven of the most severe patients died. During the late phase, the most severe patient group had impaired expression of a number of genes participating in adaptive immune responses when compared to less severe patients. These genes were involved in antigen presentation, B-cell development, T-helper cell differentiation, CD28, granzyme B signaling, apoptosis and protein ubiquitination. Patients with the poorest outcomes were characterized by proinflammatory hypercytokinemia, along with elevated levels of immunosuppressory cytokines (interleukin (IL)-10 and IL-1ra) in serum. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest an impaired development of adaptive immunity in the most severe cases of pandemic influenza, leading to an unremitting cycle of viral replication and innate cytokine-chemokine release. Interruption of this deleterious cycle may improve disease outcome. The study was scientifically sponsored by the Spanish Society for Critical Care Medicine (SEMICYUC).
