As the adoption of SDN continues to grow, so does the urgency of studying methods to enhance its security. It is the critical importance of understanding and fortifying SDN security, given its pivotal role in the modern digital ecosystem. With the ever-evolving threat landscape, research into innovative security measures is essential to ensure the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of network resources in this dynamic and transformative technology, ultimately safeguarding the reliability and functionality of our interconnected world. This research presents a novel approach to enhancing security in Software-Defined Networking through the development of an initial Intrusion Detection System. The IDS offers a scalable solution, facilitating the transmission and storage of network traffic with robust support for failure recovery across multiple nodes. Additionally, an innovative analysis module incorporates artificial intelligence (AI) to predict the nature of network traffic, effectively distinguishing between malicious and benign data. The system integrates a diverse range of technologies and tools, enabling the processing and analysis of network traffic data from PCAP files, thus contributing to the reinforcement of SDN security.As tecnologias de Redes Definidas por Software representam um paradigma recente na gestão de redes, oferecendo flexibilidade e escalabilidade sem precedentes. À medida que a adoção de soluções SDN continuam a crescer, também aumenta a urgência de estudar métodos para melhorar a sua segurança. É de extrema importância compreender e fortalecer a segurança das SDN, dado o seu papel fundamental no ecossistema digital moderno. Com o cenário de ameaças em constante evolução, a investigação de medidas de segurança inovadoras é essencial para garantir a integridade, a confidencialidade e a disponibilidade dos recursos da rede nesta tecnologia dinâmica e transformadora. Esta investigação apresenta uma nova abordagem para melhorar a segurança nas redes definidas por software através do desenvolvimento de um sistema inicial de deteção de intrusões. O IDS oferece uma solução escalável, facilitando a transmissão e o armazenamento do tráfego de rede com suporte robusto para recuperação de falhas em vários nós. Além disso, um módulo de análise inovador incorpora inteligência artificial (IA) para prever a natureza do tráfego de rede, distinguindo efetivamente entre dados maliciosos e benignos. O sistema integra uma gama diversificada de tecnologias e ferramentas, permitindo o processamento e a análise de dados de tráfego de rede a partir de ficheiros PCAP, contribuindo assim para o reforço da segurança SDN

    Pseudofinite and pseudocompact metric structures

    We initiate the study of pseudofiniteness in continuous logic. We introduce a related concept, namely that of pseudocompactness, and investigate the relationship between the two concepts. We establish some basic properties of pseudofiniteness and pseudocompactness and provide many examples.     A Combined Approach Using Water Quality Indexes and Statistical Analyses to Assess the Urban Surface Runoff: a Case Study in São Paulo Coastal Zone, Brazil

    Although the most conventional methods to determine the quality of an aquatic ecosystem are aimed to evaluate its physicochemical, microbiological and ecotoxicological characteristics, the monitoring of a large number of environmental variables can represent a high cost for developing countries like Brazil. However, a combined approach using water quality indexes and statistical analyses may help us to monitor water quality through a previous selection of a few key environmental variables. In this context, the objective of this study was to highlight the set of environmental variables most useful to assess the urban channels water quality of Guarujá, Brazil, whose diffuse loads flow continuously into four tourist beaches (Tombo, Enseada, Perequê and Iporanga). For this purpose, three different methods were applied: (i) an existent published large data set (30 environmental variables: 28 physicochemical/microbiological, plus 2 ecotoxicological) obtained during a previous monitoring of the urban drainage channels of these beaches; (ii) the potential risks for the aquatic local fauna and flora through established water quality indexes, such as IMPC, TSI and ALPI; and (iii) through statistical methods such as Cohen D test, Standardized Odds Ratio and Logistic Regression, the set of environmental variables with the greatest potential to cause acute and chronic toxicity in urban channels waters. This combined approach using water quality indexes and statistical analyses was effective to successfully reduce the number of environmental variables needed to assess the ecological status of this coastal area. Moreover, this combined approach was useful to gather intuitive and user-friendly environmental information that could help decision makers (i.e., public authorities and environmental agencies) to plan and perform low-cost and effective monitoring plans in different coastal zones worldwide, namely in developing countries such as Brazil

    Criação de um kit de fósseis do Paraná para inserção na Educação

    Anais do 35º Seminário de Extensão Universitária da Região Sul - Área temática: EducaçãoNo âmbito do projeto de extensão Geodiversidade na Educação, em atividade na Universidade Estadual de Ponta Grossa (UEPG) desde 2011, vêm sendo concebidos materiais para uso no ensino/aprendizagem de geociências. Nesse contexto foi elaborado um material didático de paleontologia que poderá ser, eventualmente, inserido nas escolas do estado. A partir do acervo paleontológico da instituição foram selecionados vinte fósseis conforme critérios de seleção específicos como tamanho, representatividade, beleza e raridade para serem replicados em resina acrílica. Com as amostras selecionadas construiu-se um kit de ensino que busca a apresentação desse tema nas escolas de ensino fundamental, médio e até mesmo no ensino superior. O kit constitui-se das réplicas acondicionadas em caixa plástica personalizada acompanhada de lupa, pincel, suporte em EVA e folheto explicativo associando o tema do produto ao contexto geológico paranaense e, ainda, um código QR para conexão com site do projeto www.geocultura.com. O resultado apresenta baixo custo possibilitando assim maior democratização de acesso, grande portabilidade e praticidade de uso, além de representar alguns dos mais raros exemplares do Patrimônio Paleontológico paranaense. A perspectiva é de que, a partir deste protótipo, se possa viabilizar a sua distribuição nas escolas do Paran

    Patterns and characteristics of university-industry relationships: evidences from a college of engineering in Brazil

    The university-industry interactions have been perceived by academics and governments as one of the key drivers for social and economic development of nations. In Brazil, these interactions are still a recent phenomenon, with no conclusive results on its effectiveness and with no clear guidelines on how to tackle the main problems faced by the professionals, researchers and institutions involved on such interactions. In order to provide an accurate diagnosis of the characteristics, challenges and peculiarities of these phenomena, the present study investigates the university-industry relations in the School of Engineering of Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF), located in the municipality of Niterói/RJ. In order to contribute to the analysis of the problem, interviews were conducted with professors and researchers affiliated with the School. The results shows, from the perspective of the respondents, the main motivations of the parties involved in these relationships, as well as the main limitations and difficulties in its establishment

    John Dewey: the search for a rhetoric pedagogy

    The starting point of this paper is a controversy that has involved the philosopher and educator John Dewey (1859-1952) since the last century: both authors contrary and favorable to his theses consider his educational conceptions associated with skepticism, a philosophical movement created by Pirro de Élis (360-270 BC). This controversy is investigated in this paper through the rhetorical analysis proposed by Perelman and Olbrechts-Tyteca, comparing Dewey’s discourse with the pyrrhonic formulations. This investigation results in the discovery of some similarities and an important difference between the discourses examined. This difference, in turn, leads to the examination of a philosophical movement prior to Pyrrhonism, the sophistry, with Protagoras of Abdera (490-421 B.C.) as its main representative. Sophistry is analyzed in this work according to contemporary authors who diverge from the traditional characterization instituted by Plato. The conclusions identify important coincidences between the Deweyan discourse and the Sophistic discourse, which allows Dewey to be associated with the rhetorical discursive tradition and to position his educational proposals within the scope of rhetorical pedagogy. This pedagogy proposes to lead students to compose and express their personal inclinations, not in the narrow space of individual life, but in the broader horizon of the community, through methods that aim to project the student in the public space of deliberation and action.O ponto de partida deste artigo é uma polêmica que envolve o filósofo e educador John Dewey (1859-1952) desde século passado: tanto autores contrários quanto autores favoráveis às suas teses consideram as suas concepções educacionais associadas ao ceticismo, corrente filosófica criada por Pirro de Élis (360-270 a.C.). Essa polêmica é investigada neste artigo por meio da análise retórica proposta por Perelman e Olbrechts-Tyteca, comparando o discurso de Dewey com as formulações pirrônicas. Dessa investigação resulta a descoberta de algumas semelhanças e uma importante diferença entre os discursos examinados. Essa diferença, por sua vez, conduz ao exame de uma corrente filosófica anterior ao pirronismo, a sofística, cujo principal representante é Protágoras de Abdera (490-421 a.C.). A sofística é analisada neste trabalho segundo autores contemporâneos que divergem da caracterização tradicional instituída por Platão. As conclusões identificam importantes coincidências entre o discurso deweyano e o discurso sofístico, o que permite associar Dewey à tradição discursiva retórica e posicionar as suas propostas educacionais no âmbito da pedagogia retórica.
