    Model berstruktur kompetensi bagi pengurus projek bangunan hijau di Malaysia

    Pembangunan lestari merupakan konsep pembangunan yang dipelopori 15 tahun lalu. Konsep ini menjadi semakin penting kerana pihak berkepentingan dalam industri pembinaan mula menyedari kesan bangunan ke atas peningkatan krisis alam sekitar serta sumbangannya kepada perubahan iklim. Untuk menangani krisis ini, konsep bangunan hijau diperkenalkan sebagai alternatif kepada pembinaan bangunan sedia ada. Bangunan hijau merupakan bangunan cekap sumber dengan kesan alam sekitar yang minimum dan dianggap baru dalam industri pembinaan. Oleh itu, pengurus projek yang kompeten adalah penting untuk menentukan kejayaan pembinaan bangunan hijau. Walau bagaimanapun, di Malaysia, terdapat jurang yang besar antara prestasi bangunan hijau di peringkat perancangan dengan prestasinya ketika siap dibina dan bersedia untuk beroperasi. Ini bermakna, bangunan hijau ini tidak dapat menangani isu kelestarian kerana bangunan-bangunan setelah siap tidak mencapai objektif pembinaannya. Berdasarkan kajian awal yang dijalankan, dapatan menunjukkan bahawa pengurus projek yang dilantik tidak mempunyai ilmu dan kemahiran sebenar mengenai pembinaan hijau. Oleh itu, kajian ini dilakukan untuk menentukan kompetensi pengurus projek bangunan hijau di Malaysia dan untuk mengkaji hubungan antara kompetensi pengurus projek bangunan hijau dan Indeks Bangunan Hijau di Malaysia dalam memastikan pembinaan bangunan hijau berjaya. Kajian ini menggunakan dua kaedah yang terdiri daripada temubual dengan pakar bidang dan kaedah tinjauan di mana soal selidik diedarkan kepada 167 pengurus projek bangunan hijau yang telah disahkan oleh Indeks Bangunan Hijau Malaysia. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis menggunakan analisis kandungan, kekerapan dan Mean Rank serta SEM-PLS. Dapatan akhir kajian menunjukkan bahawa pengurus projek yang kompeten perlu memiliki 4 kompetensi iaitu pengetahuan tradisional, pengetahuan bangunan hijau, kemahiran kemanusiaan dan kemahiran konsepsual. Setiap kompetensi ini mempunyai sub-kompetensi masing-masing termasuk perancangan dan penjadualan, pengurusan kos, pengurusan risiko, pengurusan kesihatan dan keselamatan, pengurusan pihak berkepentingan, pengurusan bahan binaan hijau, pembinaan lestari, kecekapan air, pengetahuan alam sekitar, piawaian lestari, sasaran/objektif lestari, reka bentuk hijau/lestari, strategi hijau, keperluan hijau, mahir dengan produk lestari dan pasarannya, kerjasama, membuat keputusan, tingkah laku manusia, perancangan proaktif dan visualisasi. Kompetensi dan sub-kompetensi ini diperlukan bagi memastikan kejayaan pembinaan bangunan hijau di Malaysia. Dapatan kajian ini boleh dilihat sebagai sumbangan baru kepada bidang pengetahuan tentang kelestarian dengan menjadi asas dan rujukan kepada pihak akademik dan industri dalam memastikan industri pembinaan bangunan hijau kekal relevan dan mencapai pembangunan lestari

    Exploring competencies for green building project manager

    Sustainability concept has grown in recognition and importance since the last 10 to 15 years and the issues of achieving sustainability, climate change as well as environmental protection have been addressed by the construction players. While many studies have examined the competency of project managers, there is little attention given for green building construction. Therefore, this study aims at identifying a list of competencies for green building project manager. Through literature review, a total of 49 competencies have been identified from previous studies and this search is limited with the year of published article ranging from 2000 to 2015 using Google Scholar, which were then analysed using content analysis. This study can help in creating further knowledge and skills for project managers to be more relevant and effectively execute sustainable projects

    An overview of the management commitment to safety elements for mitigating accidents in the construction industry

    Due to the importance of management commitment to safety for influencing workplace safety performance, this paper aims to investigate the current literatures, prepare a compilation and gap related to the demonstrated management commitment to safety and its elements that mitigate workplace accident in the construction industry through a clearly structural methodological approach. Hundreds of articles were explored using article keyword identified from the literature reviews. The articles abstract were reviewed repeatedly resulted in 61 relevant articles for compilation of management safety commitment including related articles from other industry. The elements of management commitment to safety were identified using content analysis and inductive coding technique. Apart from that, critical analysis was conducted to identify gaps in the literatures. From the content analysis, a total of 19 elements reflected the management commitments to safety were identified. Additionally, it was found that lots of studies have been done on safety commitment in specific aspect but more comprehensive research regarding cause and effect of actual safety commitment is suggested

    The need for retrofitting to achieve sustainability of Malaysian buildings

    Malaysia is a country that is progressively developing that uses energy as the main input for its continuous development. The increasing demand and consumption of energy subsequently led to increase concentration of greenhouse gas emission and resource depletion. To cope with the challenges in mitigating adverse effects and sustaining energy, Malaysia has made efforts in emphasizing on the green building initiatives in the building sector. This has been demonstrated through promulgation of policies (i.e. NTGP, NPCC), impetus in developing ‘greenness’ (i.e. GTFS, GBI) and government-owned green buildings manifests. Considerable attention on green building initiatives can be seen through the increasing number of new green buildings that are presented in the GBI executive summary. However, the existing building stocks remain with less attention. Furthermore, there is a lack of consideration in retrofitting these existing buildings as a mean to contribute to sustainability. Therefore, this paper presents and reviews the measures that have been taken towards Malaysia’s building sector and the emphasis of retrofitting existing buildings to contribute in the sustainability movement
