Misogyny, Islamophobia, and Muslim Supression Internal and Abroad

    Get PDF
Contrary to assumptions of suppression in Islam, female sexual discourse and agency expresses freedom within the faith. Homosexual Muslim men face identity suppression. While many think Islamophobia hinders Muslims, in many cases it is shown to motivate and propel them. While some believe that Muslims have the right to practice their faith they don’t see what they experience daily to make them feel suppressed. Islamophobia is the perpetuated form of racism against those who practice the Islamic faith and incorrectly associate them with extremism and violence.https://ecommons.udayton.edu/roesch_symposium_content/1040/thumbnail.jp

Redlining to Resettlement: Students Navigate Partnership and Convening Conversations around Housing in Dayton

    No full text
The 2023 Cohort of Dayton Civic Scholars, an undergraduate student program, will map how they arrived at their capstone project topic, particularly influenced by the Undesign the Redline exhibit and the film Redlining: Mapping Inequality. Bringing together media from multiple sources, the students highlight the narratives that sparked their actions. Along with their research, they have partnered with community initiatives to challenge the legacy of redlining, advance resettlement programs and develop strategic visions. In the second half of the session, students will facilitate a conversation about the assets and challenges of housing in Dayton and facilitate activities to gather feedback on their project plan. As they vision their project with partner organizations, the students seek to center on the attendees\u27 experiences and perspectives. Welcoming residents, organizers, scholars and other stakeholders, this session seeks to develop a creative, inclusive vision.
