Generation of Two-Flavor Vortex Atom Laser from a Five-State Medium

Two-flavor atom laser in a vortex state is obtained and analyzed via electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) technique in a five-level MM type system by using two probe lights with ±z\pm z-directional orbital angular momentum ±l\pm l\hbar, respectively. Together with the original transfer technique of quantum states from light to matter waves, the present result can be extended to generate continuous two-flavor vortex atom laser with non-classical atoms.Comment: 5 pages, 1 figure; The previous version (v2) is a wrong one; this is the published versio

The structure of TeV-bright shell-type supernova remnants

Aims. Two-dimensional MHD simulations are used to model the emission properties of TeV-bright shell-type supernova remnants (SNRs) and to explore their nature. Methods. In the leptonic scenario for the TeV emission, the γ\gamma-ray emission is produced via Inverse Compton scattering of background soft photons by high-energy electrons accelerated by the shocks of the SNRs. The TeV emissivity is proportional to the magnetic field energy density and MHD simulations can be used to model the TeV structure of such remnants directly. 2D MHD simulations for SNRs are then performed under the assumption that the ambient interstellar medium is turbulent with the magnetic field and density fluctuations following a Kolmogorov-like power-law spectrum. Results. (1) As expected, these simulations confirm early 1D and 2D modelings of these sources, namely the hydrodynamical evolution of the shock waves and amplification of magnetic field by Rayleigh-Taylor convective flows and by shocks propagating in a turbulent medium; (2) We reproduce rather complex morphological structure for γ\gamma-rays, suggesting intrinsic variations of the source morphology not related to the structure of the progenitor and environment; (3)The observed radial profile of several remnants are well reproduced with an ambient medium density of 0.110.1-1 cm3^{-3}. An even lower ambient density leads to a sharper drop of the TeV brightness with radius than what is observed near the outer edge of these remnants. Conclusions. In a turbulent background medium, we can reproduce the observed characteristics of several shell-type TeV SNRs with reasonable parameters except for a higher ambient density than that inferred from X-ray observations.Comment: 7pages,12figures,Accepted for publication in A&A. arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1306.439

Mobile Communication, Public Participation and E-Governance in China:A case study of Xiamen Anti-PX Demonstration

China has become the biggest mobile communication carrier in the world since 2001. Advanced technologies create a communication revolution, and the individual, through the advent of mobile media, has become an active participant in this process. This study investigates the mobile phone’s impact upon the developments of public participation, social inclusion and citizenship through the case study of Xiamen PX demonstration. In terms of local environmental activism, the Xiamen residents shared information with the help of wireless communication about the alleged misdeeds of party officials and took various civic actions again them. A rare sense of participation in public affairs is fostered through the use of mobile communication technology. The government must figure out how to improve the effective and regular information exchange and feedback top down and bottom up to raise the awareness and understanding among higher decision making agencies, government and the public

AIM: To observe the clinical effect of phacoemulsification with foldable intraocular lens implantation on cataract with angle-closure glaucoma.
METHODS: Twenty-nine cases(29 eyes)of angle-closure glaucoma with cataract underwent phacoemulsification with foldable intraocular lens implantation, and the data of visual acuity, intraocular pressure, gonioscopy and complications after operation were statistically analyzed.
RESULTS:Postoperatively, 28 eyes(96.5%)visual acuity were improved. Intraocular pressure of 25 eyes(86.2%)were maintained at a normal level without any IOP lowering drug, intraocular pressure of 3 eyes(10.3%)were controlled by IOP lowering eye drops, intraocular pressure of 1 eye(3.5%)returned to normal by trabeculectomy. The chamber depth of 29 eyes was increased. 8 eyes were suffered from mild corneal edema, and returned to normal after treatment.
CONCLUSION: Characterized by decreasing intraocular pressure, opening anterior chamber, and raising visual acuity, phacoemulsification with foldable intraocular lens implantation is a good operative therapy for primary angle-closure glaucoma complicated with cataract with preoperative goniosynechia closed ≤270°
