Adaptive Reuse of Religious Heritage and Its Impact on House Prices
Due to social demographic change and secularization, religious heritage sites in Europe are on the verge of losing their original functions. While the adaptive reuse seems to be a proactive strategy to preserve the historical and cultural value embedded in religious heritage sites, little is known concerning its external impact. This paper aims to fill this gap by investigating the external effect of reusing religious heritage on surrounding house prices. Employing both the parametric and non-parametric difference-in-differences hedonic model on a sample of 42 projects of reusing religious heritage and a rich dataset of housing transactions in the Netherlands, we find significant positive externality of reusing religious heritage on local house prices. The external effects are heterogeneous across differentiated project size and monumental status. Larger religious heritage reuse projects and those listed as national monuments exert greater influence on surrounding house prices
Numerical Simulation Of Three-dimension Unsteady Flow In The Compression Chambers Of A Scroll Compressor
Due to the movement of orbiting scroll and leakage in scroll compressor chambers, the unsteady flow has significant influence on compression process. It\u27s necessary to takes account of both flow and thermodynamics process in analysis of compression. This paper has carried out a numerical simulation of the whole compression process in scroll compressor, involving suction, compression and discharge process. By solving mass, momentum and energy equations of the refrigerant, the velocity, pressure and temperature distribution in all compression chambers throughout the entire compression cycle has been obtained, which takes account of all the influence of flow and thermodynamics process. The field quantities have shown nonuniform distribution in every compression chamber, and leakage between different chambers is obvious. Further, the overall parameters, such as mass flow rate, discharge temperature and compression power consumption, have been calculated from the field quantities. The general comparisons between numerical and experimental results show a reasonable good agreement. The research is useful for the optimal design of the compressor geometric structure
SIRT3: A New Regulator of Cardiovascular Diseases
Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading causes of death worldwide, and defects in mitochondrial function contribute largely to the occurrence of CVDs. Recent studies suggest that sirtuin 3 (SIRT3), the mitochondrial NAD+-dependent deacetylase, may regulate mitochondrial function and biosynthetic pathways such as glucose and fatty acid metabolism and the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle, oxidative stress, and apoptosis by reversible protein lysine deacetylation. SIRT3 regulates glucose and lipid metabolism and maintains myocardial ATP levels, which protects the heart from metabolic disturbances. SIRT3 can also protect cardiomyocytes from oxidative stress-mediated cell damage and block the development of cardiac hypertrophy. Recent reports show that SIRT3 is involved in the protection of several heart diseases. This review discusses the progress in SIRT3-related research and the role of SIRT3 in the prevention and treatment of CVDs
Causal associations between gut microbiota and adverse pregnancy outcomes: A two-sample Mendelian randomization study
Growing evidence indicates that gut microbiota could be closely associated with a variety of adverse pregnancy outcomes (APOs), but a causal link between gut microbiome and APOs has yet to be established. Therefore, in this study, we comprehensively investigated the relationship between gut microbiota and APOs to identify specific causal bacteria that may be associated with the development and occurrence of APOs by conducting a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis. The microbiome genome-wide association study (GWAS) from the MiBioGen consortium was used as exposure data, and the GWAS for six common APOs was used as outcome data. Single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that significantly correlated to exposure, data obtained from published GWAS, were selected as instrumental variables (IVs). We used the inverse variance-weighted (IVW) test as the main MR analysis to estimate the causal relationship. The Mendelian randomization pleiotropy residual sum and outlier (MR-PRESSO) and MR-Egger regression were used to confirm the presence of horizontal pleiotropy and to exclude outlier SNPs. We performed Cochran's Q test to assess the heterogeneity among SNPs associated with each bacterium. The leave-one-out sensitivity analysis was used to evaluate whether the overall estimates were affected by a single SNP. Our analysis shows a causal association between specific gut microbiota and APOs. Our findings offer novel insights into the gut microbiota-mediated development mechanism of APOs
