    The (d,1)-total labelling of graphs was introduced by Havet and Yu. In this paper, we consider the list version of (d,1)-total labelling of graphs. Let G be a graph embedded in a surface with Euler characteristic ϵ\epsilon whose maximum degree Δ(G)\Delta(G) is sufficiently large. We prove that the (d,1)-total choosability Cd,1T(G)C_{d,1}^T(G) of GG is at most Δ(G)+2d\Delta(G)+2d.Comment: 6 page

    Deterministic Constructions of Binary Measurement Matrices from Finite Geometry

    Deterministic constructions of measurement matrices in compressed sensing (CS) are considered in this paper. The constructions are inspired by the recent discovery of Dimakis, Smarandache and Vontobel which says that parity-check matrices of good low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes can be used as {provably} good measurement matrices for compressed sensing under â„“1\ell_1-minimization. The performance of the proposed binary measurement matrices is mainly theoretically analyzed with the help of the analyzing methods and results from (finite geometry) LDPC codes. Particularly, several lower bounds of the spark (i.e., the smallest number of columns that are linearly dependent, which totally characterizes the recovery performance of â„“0\ell_0-minimization) of general binary matrices and finite geometry matrices are obtained and they improve the previously known results in most cases. Simulation results show that the proposed matrices perform comparably to, sometimes even better than, the corresponding Gaussian random matrices. Moreover, the proposed matrices are sparse, binary, and most of them have cyclic or quasi-cyclic structure, which will make the hardware realization convenient and easy.Comment: 12 pages, 11 figure

    Patterns and influencing factor of synonymous codon usage in porcine circovirus

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Analysis of codon usage can reveal much about the molecular evolution of the viruses. Nevertheless, little information about synonymous codon usage pattern of porcine circovirus (PCV) genome in the process of its evolution is available. In this study, to give a new understanding on the evolutionary characteristics of PCV and the effects of natural selection from its host on the codon usage pattern of the virus, Patterns and the key determinants of codon usage in PCV were examined.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>We carried out comprehensive analysis on codon usage pattern in the PCV genome, by calculating relative synonymous codon usage (RSCU), effective number of codons (ENC), dinucleotides and nucleic acid content of the PCV genome.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>PCV genomes have relatively much lower content of GC and codon preference, this result shows that nucleotide constraints have a major impact on its synonymous codon usage. The results of the correspondence analysis indicate codon usage patterns of PCV of various genotypes, various subgenotypes changed greatly, and significant differences in codon usage patterns of Each virus of Circoviridae.There is much comparability between PCV and its host in their synonymous codon usage, suggesting that the natural selection pressure from the host factor also affect the codon usage patterns of PCV. In particular, PCV genotype II is in synonymous codon usage more similar to pig than to PCV genotype I, which may be one of the most important molecular mechanisms of PCV genotype II to cause disease. The calculations results of the relative abundance of dinucleotides indicate that the composition of dinucleotides also plays a key role in the variation found in synonymous codon usage in PCV. Furthermore, geographic factors, the general average hydrophobicity and the aromaticity may be related to the formation of codon usage patterns of PCV.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>The results of these studies suggest that synonymous codon usage pattern of PCV genome are the result of interaction between mutation pressure and natural selection from its host. The information from this study may not only have theoretical value in understanding the characteristics of synonymous codon usage in PCV genomes, but also have significant value for the molecular evolution of PCV.</p

    Status epilepticus alters hippocampal PKAβ and PKAγ expression in mice

    AbstractObjectivesTo investigate the localization and progressive changes of cyclic-AMP dependent protein kinase (cPKA) in the mouse hippocampus at acute stages during and after pilocarpine induced status epilepticus.MethodsPilocarpine induced status epilepticus mice were sacrificed 30min, 2h or 1 day after the start of a ∼7h lasting status as assessed by video-electroencephalography. Brains were processed for quantitative immunohistochemistry of hippocampal cPKAβ and cPKAγ, and immunohistochemical co-localization of cPKAβ and cPKAγ with calbindin (CB), calretinin (CR), and parvalbumin (PV).ResultsBased on anatomical and morphological assessment, cPKAβ was primarily expressed by principal cells and cPKAγ by interneurons. In CA1, cPKAβ co-localized with 76% of CB, 41% of CR, and 95% of PV-immunopositive cells, while cPKAγ co-localized with 50% of CB, 29% of CR, and 80% of PV-immunopositive cells. Upon induction of status epilepticus, cPKAβ expression was transiently reduced in CA1, whereas cPKAγ expression was sustainably reduced.ConclusioncPKA may play an important role in neuronal hyperexcitability, death and epileptogenesis during and after pilocarpine induced status epilepticus
