    Low-Carbon and economic flexibility scheduling of power system with multiple generation resources penetration

    The operation flexibility of the power system suffers great challenges due to the vigorously developing of renewable energy resources under the promotion of the carbon neutralization goal. To this end, this paper proposes an economical and flexible energy scheduling method for power system integrated with multiple generation resources while considering the operation of low-carbon. Specifically, flexibility evaluation indexes are constructed to describe the characteristics of the flexible generation units. Then they are connected with the flexibility of the power system in an economic and low-carbon flexible energy scheduling model. To coordinate the operation economy, flexibility, and carbon emission reduction, the model incorporates demand response, operational characteristics, and flexibility requirements. Further, the model is fully validated through the simulation on the modified IEEE 30-bus system. Results demonstrate that: the proposed method can reduce the system’s carbon emission and total operating costs and promote photovoltaic consumption

    Prognosis of HIV Patients Receiving Antiretroviral Therapy According to CD4 Counts: A Long-term Follow-up study in Yunnan, China

    We aim to evaluate the overall survival and associated risk factors for HIV-infected Chinese patients on antiretroviral therapy (ART). 2517 patients receiving ART between 2006 and 2016 were prospectively enrolled in Yunnan province. Kaplan-Meier analyses and Cox proportional hazard regression analyses were performed. 216/2517 patients died during a median 17.5 (interquartile range [IQR] 6.8-33.2) months of follow-up. 82/216 occurred within 6 months of starting ART. Adjusted hazard ratios were10.69 (95%CI 2.38-48.02, p = 0.002) for old age, 1.94 (95%CI 1.40-2.69, p < 0.0001) for advanced WHO stage, and 0.42 (95%CI 0.27-0.63, p < 0.0001) for heterosexual transmission compared to injecting drug users. Surprisingly, adjusted hazard ratios comparing low CD4 counts group (<50 cells/μl) with high CD4 counts group (≥500 cells/μl) within six months after starting ART was 20.17 (95%CI 4.62-87.95, p < 0.0001) and it declined to 3.57 (95%CI 1.10-11.58, p = 0.034) afterwards. Age, WHO stage, transmission route are significantly independent risk factors for ART treated HIV patients. Importantly, baseline CD4 counts is strongly inversely associated with survival in the first six months; whereas it becomes a weak prognostic factor after six months of starting ART

    Characterization of the Toxicities of Cd-Ni and Cd-Cr Binary Mixtures Using Combination Index Method

    Direct equipartition ray design was used to construct Cd-Ni and Cd-Cr binary mixtures. Microplate toxicity analysis was used to evaluate the toxicity of individual substance and the Cd-Ni and Cd-Cr mixtures on Chlorella pyrenoidosa and Selenastrum capricornutum. The interacting toxicity of the mixture was analyzed with concentration addition (CA) model. In addition, combination index method (CI) was proposed and used to quantitatively characterize the toxicity of the binary mixtures of CdNi and Cd-Cr observed in experiment and find the degree of deviation from the predicted outcome of the CA model, that is, the intensity of interacting toxicity. Results indicate that most of the 20 binary mixtures exhibit enhancing and synergistic effect, and only Cd-Cr-R4 and Cd-Cr-R5 mixtures have relatively high antagonistic effects against C. pyrenoidosa. Based on confidence interval, CI can compare the intensities of interaction of the mixtures under varying levels of effect.     Keep pursuing inspiration throughout ones creative life, a composer may be influenced by various kinds of object and matter, e.g., a meaningful book, stunning natural sceneries, memorable experience, etc. Being a composer, my inspiration is rooted in the spirit and inheritance of Chinese culture. Besides showing my composition outputs written in the last four years, this thesis discusses how Chinese arts have been inspired by Chinese culture, and how its treasure is manifested in my compositional process. This thesis begins with the Introduction discussing the key characteristics of the five aspects of Chinese culture with my own artistic interpretation. The five aspects are (1) the traditional concept and spirit of wenren, (2) the relationship between nature and emotion in the arts, (3) the art of qin, (4) Chinese calligraphy and its connection to music, and (5) the practice of folk music. These topics are chosen because of their connection with my compositional and artistic visions. Then, 10 original compositions are presented in the format of a compositional portfolio which form the main body of this thesis. These compositions-chapters are grouped according to specific artistic themes, and therefore the order of appearance is not related to the composing chronology. Each chapter starts with an explanatory notes to introduce the inspiration or challenge and highlight relevant compositional techniques; it is then followed by the score.     The Amplification and Activity Analysis of the Small Rubber Particle Protein (<i>SRPP</i>) Promoter of <i>Eucommia ulmoides</i> (<i>EuSRPP</i>) Revealed That Its Activity Was Regulated by MeJA, GA3, and Drought Pathways

    As an important temperate gum source plant, Eucommia ulmoides is widely distributed in China, but the low yield of Eucommia ulmoides gum considerably affects its application as a natural rubber in practical production. The small rubber particle protein (SRPP) gene is an influential participant in the Eucommia ulmoides gum biosynthesis process, and its expression affects the gum content. In this study, the promoter activity of the Eucommia ulmoides SRPP (EuSRPP) gene was analyzed by molecular biology and bioinformatics. In order to understand the molecular regulation mechanism of the EuSRPP genes at the transcriptional level, we first obtained the promoter sequences of the EuSRPP1, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 genes via genome walking and PCR amplification experiments. Then, the T3 generation of the transgenic homozygous line was obtained via a genetic transformation of Arabidopsis thaliana mediated by Agrobacterium. The six EuSRPP promoters were expressed in transgenic plants and were stably expressed in the leaves, pollinated flowers, and mature pods. As the transgenic plant grows and develops, promoter activity in the root is barely expressed. In addition, after the transgenic Arabidopsis was treated with methyl jasmonate (1 mmol/L MeJA), gibberellin (1 mmol/L GA3), and drought (20% PEG6000), the activity expression of the six EuSRPP promoters increased first and then decreased. The difference, however, is that EuSRPP1, 3, and 4 reach their strongest GUS activity at 3 h of plant treatment, while EuSRPP5, 6, and 7 reach their strongest activity at 6 h of treatment. Based on all experimental results, for the first time, it has been shown that the expression loci of the six EuSRPP gene promoters were relatively consistent. Second, the expression activity of the promoters of the six EuSRPP genes was different under MeJA, GA3, and drought treatment, suggesting that the promoter activity of the EuSRPP genes was regulated by endogenous hormones and drought pathways
