Phonon Dispersion Relations in PrBa2Cu3O6+x (x ~ 0.2)
We report measurements of the phonon dispersion relations in
non-superconducting, oxygen-deficient PrBa2Cu3O6+x (x ~ 0.2) by inelastic
neutron scattering. The data are compared with a model of the lattice dynamics
based on a common interaction potential. Good agreement is achieved for all but
two phonon branches, which are significantly softer than predicted. These modes
are found to arise predominantly from motion of the oxygen ions in the CuO2
planes. Analogous modes in YBa2Cu3O6 are well described by the common

The first WASP public data release
The WASP (wide angle search for planets) project is an exoplanet transit survey that has been automatically taking wide field images since 2004. Two instruments, one in La Palma and the other in South Africa, continually monitor the night sky, building up light curves of millions of unique objects. These light curves are used to search for the characteristics of exoplanetary transits. This first public data release (DR1) of the WASP archive makes available all the light curve data and images from 2004 up to 2008 in both the Northern and Southern hemispheres. A web interface () to the data allows easy access over the Internet. The data set contains 3 631 972 raw images and 17 970 937 light curves. In total the light curves have 119 930 299 362 data points available between them
SuperWASP: Wide Angle Search for Planets
SuperWASP is a fully robotic, ultra-wide angle survey for planetary transits.
Currently under construction, it will consist of 5 cameras, each monitoring a
9.5 x 9.5 deg field of view. The Torus mount and enclosure will be fully
automated and linked to a built-in weather station. We aim to begin

Magnetism, Spin-Orbit Coupling, and Superconducting Pairing in UGe
A consistent picture on the mean-field level of the magnetic properties and
electronic structure of the superconducting itinerant ferromagnet UGe is
shown to require inclusion of correlation effects beyond the local density
approximation (LDA). The "LDA+U" approach reproduces both the magnitude of the
observed moment, composed of strongly opposing spin and orbital parts, and the
magnetocrystalline anisotropy. The largest Fermi surface sheet is comprised
primarily of spin majority states with orbital projection =0,
suggesting a much simpler picture of the pairing than is possible for general
strong spin-orbit coupled materials. This occurrence, and the
quasi-two-dimensional geometry of the Fermi surface, support the likelihood of

The Pearson-Readhead Survey of Compact Extragalactic Radio Sources From Space. I. The Images
We present images from a space-VLBI survey using the facilities of the VLBI
Space Observatory Programme (VSOP), drawing our sample from the well-studied
Pearson-Readhead survey of extragalactic radio sources. Our survey has taken
advantage of long space-VLBI baselines and large arrays of ground antennas,
such as the Very Long Baseline Array and European VLBI Network, to obtain high
resolution images of 27 active galactic nuclei, and to measure the core
brightness temperatures of these sources more accurately than is possible from
the ground. A detailed analysis of the source properties is given in
accompanying papers. We have also performed an extensive series of simulations
to investigate the errors in VSOP images caused by the relatively large holes
in the (u,v) plane when sources are observed near the orbit normal direction.
We find that while the nominal dynamic range (defined as the ratio of map peak
to off-source error) often exceeds 1000:1, the true dynamic range (map peak to
on-source error) is only about 30:1 for relatively complex core-jet sources.
For sources dominated by a strong point source, this value rises to
approximately 100:1. We find the true dynamic range to be a relatively weak
function of the difference in position angle (PA) between the jet PA and (u,v)
coverage major axis PA. For low signal-to-noise regions typically located down
the jet away from the core, large errors can occur, causing spurious features

Reaction mechanisms in 24Mg+12C and 32S+24Mg
The occurence of "exotic" shapes in light N=Z alpha-like nuclei is
investigated for 24Mg+12C and 32S+24Mg. Various approaches of superdeformed and
hyperdeformed bands associated with quasimolecular resonant structures with low
spin are presented. For both reactions, exclusive data were collected with the
Binary Reaction Spectrometer in coincidence with EUROBALL IV installed at the
VIVITRON Tandem facility of Strasbourg. Specific structures with large
deformation were selectively populated in binary reactions and their associated
-decays studied. The analysis of the binary and ternary reaction

Variation with mass of \boldmath{B(E3; 0_1^+ \to 3_1^-)} transition rates in even-mass xenon nuclei
transition matrix elements have been measured for
even-mass Xe nuclei using sub-barrier Coulomb excitation in inverse
kinematics. The trends in energy and
excitation strengths are well reproduced using phenomenological models based on
a strong coupling picture with a soft quadrupole mode and an increasing
occupation of the intruder orbital.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, PRC in pres
PT symmetry, Cartan decompositions, Lie triple systems and Krein space related Clifford algebras
Gauged PT quantum mechanics (PTQM) and corresponding Krein space setups are
studied. For models with constant non-Abelian gauge potentials and extended
parity inversions compact and noncompact Lie group components are analyzed via
Cartan decompositions. A Lie triple structure is found and an interpretation as
PT-symmetrically generalized Jaynes-Cummings model is possible with close
relation to recently studied cavity QED setups with transmon states in
multilevel artificial atoms. For models with Abelian gauge potentials a hidden
Clifford algebra structure is found and used to obtain the fundamental symmetry
of Krein space related J-selfadjoint extensions for PTQM setups with
ultra-localized potentials.Comment: 11 page
Explaining counterterrorism in the UK: Normal politics, securitized politics or performativity of the neoliberal state?
This paper seeks to explore the politics of counter terrorism in the UK. It argues that for a number of reasons, counter terrorism policy has been separated off from other policy areas and seen as securitised, exceptional or just different. The paper argues that such a separation from “normal” politics is problematic, both conceptually and empirically. It argues that much can be gained by considering counter terrorism policy through the lenses, concepts and debates which feature in other areas of British politics. The paper then examines two such lenses/debates – depoliticisation and neoliberalism. An argument is developed that counter terrorism policy is not, in the main, depoliticised, but rather overt, politicised and visible. This prominence, it is argued, is due to the ways in which neoliberalism has reduced many of the traditional roles of the state. Drawing on the work of Wacquant and Hall, the paper argues that in the absence of such traditional roles, counter terrorism offers the state an opportunity to perform its own “stateness”, to visibly display its sovereign power in a context of ever more (self-imposed) diminished powers
