    Characteristics of the double-cycled motion-ruled surface of the Schatz linkage based on differential geometry

    This paper applies Euclidean invariants from differential geometry to kinematic properties of the ruled surfaces generated by the coupler link and the constraint-screw axes. Starting from investigating the assembly configuration, the work reveals two cycle phases of the coupler link when the input link finishes a full rotation. This leads to analysis of the motion ruled surface generated by the directrix along the coupler link, where Euclidean invariants are obtained and singularities are identified. This work further presents the constraint ruled surface that is generated by the constraint screw axes and unveils its intrinsic characteristics

    Refined clothespin relocation test and assessment of motion

    Background: Advancements in upper limb prosthesis design have focused on providing increased degrees of freedom for the end effector through multiple articulations of a prosthetic hand, wrist and elbow. Measuring improvement in patient function with these devices requires development of appropriate assessment tools. Objectives: This study presents a refined clothespin relocation test for measuring performance and assessing compensatory motion between able-bodied subjects and subjects with upper limb impairments. Study Design: Comparative analysis Methods: Trunk and head motions of 13 able-bodied subjects who performed the refined clothespin relocation test were compared to the motion of a transradial prosthesis user with a single degree of freedom hand. Results: There were observable differences between the prosthesis user and the able-bodied group. The assessment used provided a clear indication of the differences in motion through analysis of compensatory motion. Conclusion: The refined clothespin relocation test provides additional benefits over the standard clothespin assessment and makes identification of compensatory motions easily identifiable to the researcher. While this paper establishes the method for the new assessment, further validation will need to be performed with more users

    Latin America is a part of that Global village where—according to Marc Augé—places, time, and space exist in abundance and where the presumed unique nature of the Western model clashes with the image of the “other”. (Augé (2009); Salgues (2016), p. 114) Thus, while the formation of a multiethnic and multicultural society—one based on the principle of tolerance, in which diversity and homologation should coexist without conflict—is hoped for, the spread of such categories as ethnicity and minority underscores the dissimilarities of our time. Starting from such basic concepts as, for example, religion, culture, otherness, and identity, and with the analysis of two case studies—Our Lady of Guadalupe and Saint Martín de Porres—the aim is to raise a problem: does a Latin American cultural identity exist?
