Bose-Einstein Correlations for Mixed Neutral Mesons
Correlations are shown to arise in nonidentical mixed-particle pairs like
when observed in identical decay modes like in
multiparticle final states containing many partial waves. No enhancement is
found in any single partial wave and all partial wave analyses of the s-wave
threshold resonance and should give the same results for all decay
modes. In CP violation experiments where pairs are inclusively
produced and correlated decays into and leptonic modes are observed,
the CP-violating lepton asymmetry is enhanced by a factor of two in the
kinematic region where Bose enhancement occurs.Comment: 11 page
Framework for Identification of Neutral B Mesons
We introduce a method for the study of CP-violating asymmetries in tagged
states of neutral mesons with arbitrary coherence properties. A set of
time-dependent measurements is identified which completely specifies the
density matrix of the initial state in a two-component space with basis vectors
and , and permits a determination of phases in the
Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix. For a given tagging configuration, the
measurement of decays both to flavor eigenstates and to CP eigenstates provides
the necessary information.Comment: Submitted to Phys. Rev. Letters. 8 pages, LaTeX, Technion-PH-93-31 /

On the feasibility of a nuclear exciton laser
Nuclear excitons known from M\"ossbauer spectroscopy describe coherent
excitations of a large number of nuclei -- analogous to Dicke states (or Dicke
super-radiance) in quantum optics. In this paper, we study the possibility of
constructing a laser based on these coherent excitations. In contrast to the
free electron laser (in its usual design), such a device would be based on
stimulated emission and thus might offer certain advantages, e.g., regarding
energy-momentum accuracy. Unfortunately, inserting realistic parameters, the
window of operability is probably not open (yet) to present-day technology --
but our design should be feasible in the UV regime, for example.Comment: 7 pages RevTeX, 4 figure

Borna disease.
Borna disease virus, a newly classified nonsegmented negative-strand RNA virus with international distribution, infects a broad range of warm-blooded animals from birds to primates. Infection causes movement and behavioral disturbances reminiscent of some neuropsychiatric syndromes. The virus has not been clearly linked to any human disease; however, an association between infection with the virus and selected neuropsychiatric disorders has been suggested. We reviewed recent advances in Borna disease virus research, focusing on evidence of infection in humans
Why is the B -> eta' X decay width so large ?
New mechanism for the observed inclusive B -> \eta'X decay is suggested. We
argue that the dominant contribution to this amplitude is due to the Cabbibo
favored b -> \bar{c}cs process followed by the transition \bar{c}c -> \eta'. A
large magnitude of the "intrinsic charm" component of \eta' is of critical
importance in our approach. Our results are consistent with an unexpectedly
large Br(B -> \eta'+X) \sim 10^{-3} recently announced by CLEO. We stress the
uniqueness of this channel for 0^{-+} gluonia search.Comment: Comments on a mixing model for intrinsic charm and pre-asymptotic

On the equivalence of pairing correlations and intrinsic vortical currents in rotating nuclei
The present paper establishes a link between pairing correlations in rotating
nuclei and collective vortical modes in the intrinsic frame. We show that the
latter can be embodied by a simple S-type coupling a la Chandrasekhar between
rotational and intrinsic vortical collective modes. This results from a
comparison between the solutions of microscopic calculations within the HFB and
the HF Routhian formalisms. The HF Routhian solutions are constrained to have
the same Kelvin circulation expectation value as the HFB ones. It is shown in
several mass regions, pairing regimes, and for various spin values that this
procedure yields moments of inertia, angular velocities, and current
distributions which are very similar within both formalisms. We finally present
perspectives for further studies.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures, submitted to Phys. Rev.
Coherent pairing states for the Hubbard model
We consider the Hubbard model and its extensions on bipartite lattices. We
define a dynamical group based on the -pairing operators introduced by
C.N.Yang, and define coherent pairing states, which are combinations of
eigenfunctions of -operators. These states permit exact calculations of
numerous physical properties of the system, including energy, various
fluctuations and correlation functions, including pairing ODLRO to all orders.
This approach is complementary to BCS, in that these are superconducting
coherent states associated with the exact model, although they are not
eigenstates of the Hamiltonian.Comment: 5 pages, RevTe
Systematic study of deformed nuclei at the drip lines and beyond
An improved prescription for choosing a transformed harmonic oscillator (THO)
basis for use in configuration-space Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (HFB) calculations
is presented. The new HFB+THO framework that follows accurately reproduces the
results of coordinate-space HFB calculations for spherical nuclei, including
those that are weakly bound. Furthermore, it is fully automated, facilitating
its use in systematic investigations of large sets of nuclei throughout the
periodic table. As a first application, we have carried out calculations using
the Skyrme Force SLy4 and volume pairing, with exact particle number projection
following application of the Lipkin-Nogami prescription. Calculations were
performed for all even-even nuclei from the proton drip line to the neutron
drip line having proton numbers Z=2,4,...,108 and neutron numbers
N=2,4,...,188. We focus on nuclei near the neutron drip line and find that
there exist numerous particle-bound even-even nuclei (i.e., nuclei with
negative Fermi energies) that have at the same time negative two-neutron
separation energies. This phenomenon, which was earlier noted for light nuclei,
is attributed to bound shape isomers beyond the drip line.Comment: 12 ReVTeX4 pages, 6 EPS figures. See also

Boson-assisted tunneling in layered metals
A theory for boson-assisted tunneling via randomly distributed resonant
states in a layered metals is developed. As particular examples, we consider
the electron-phonon interaction and the interaction between localized and
conduction electrons. The theory is applied to explain a non-monotonic
variation of the out-plane resistivity with temperature observed in
quasi-two-dimensional metals.Comment: 14 pages, 5 figure
