Análisis comparativo de la Composición Corporal antropométrica del personal policial de Quito y Guayaquil
Las funciones realizadas por el personal policial difieren entre las ocupaciones policiales, algunas de las cuales son físicamente exigentes (intervención en confrontaciones físicas y rescate). Para realizar tareas físicamente exigentes de forma eficaz y con un riesgo reducido de lesiones, la aptitud física relacionada con el rendimiento y la salud es muy importante para los agentes de policía. Las evaluaciones del rendimiento físico en agentes de policía se asociaa menudo con parámetros antropométricos como son la masa grasa corporal y masa de músculo esquelético. El presente estudio es una investigación descriptiva, con un enfoque cuantitativo, que consistió en el análisis comparativo de la composición corporal ntropométrica del personal policial del grupo de intervención y rescate, participaron un total de 78 policías masculinos de una edad media de 35,10 ± 6,51 años, La muestra fueron de dos ciudades principales del Ecuador: un grupo de 40 policías de la ciudad de Quito y 38 policías de la ciudad de Guayaquil.Se investigaron las variables de: edad, rango, composición corporal (las mediciones antropométricas se realizaron cumpliendo los estándares de ISAK.En ambas ciudades el porcentaje de la masa muscular de los profesionales policiales es alto al ser personal entrenado para misiones especiales que necesita de fuerza muscular considerable con una media de 46,83 ± 2,39%. Al analizar la composición corporal del grupo policial de rescate en dos ciudades principales de Ecuador no se encontraron diferencias significativas en las variables antropométricas y ambos grupos presentan buen porcentaje y peso de masa de muscular (p>0,05)

Como docentes en ejercicio y en formación en la Universidad de Málaga, compartimos la preocupación por el uso que niñas, niños y adolescentes hacen de las pantallas, tanto por el tiempo de ocio que les dedican -que alcanza en nuestro país una media de casi siete horas diarias-, como por los contenidos que reciben: narrativas muy breves que reproducen los valores de la cultura hegemónica, romantizan la desigualdad y normalizan las violencias. Estas piezas, que el algoritmo selecciona para cada persona en función de sus elecciones previas, alimentan un sistema de gratificación instantánea que deriva del constante
desplazamiento por la pantalla lo que, a su vez, facilita una visualización repetida de mensajes similares y, por tanto, la interiorización y reproducción inconsciente de sus formas y contenidos. Esta “vivencia simulada” distrae de experiencias reales y dificulta la construcción de un relato propio.
En este contexto, el arte y la Educación Artística pueden proporcionar vías para generar relatos alternativos. Nuestra propuesta parte de la combinación de cuentos clásicos enraizados en los universales humanos, declaraciones internacionales de derechos y
expresión artística para generar un relato propio y actual en forma y contenido. Adaptada a diferentes niveles educativos, impulsa lo vivencial a partir de una experiencia artístico-literaria que sitúa en su centro las necesidades humanas, rompe con la idea
tradicionalista del arte y del relato que deriva de seis horas diarias de pantallas y, a partir de modos de contar propios y adaptados a cada grupo y realidad, promueve el disfrute de la lectura y de su capacidad de conexión a través de un proceso creativo y social, en el que la creación grupal sustituye a la recepción pasiva. Tumores germinales gonadales en niños: experiencia de 20 años en un centro de referencia pediátrico.
Antecedentes. Los tumores de células germinales son un grupo heterogéneo de neoplasias que corresponden al 1-3% de los tumores en pediatría. Por lo general, se manifiestan clínicamente con masa testicular o dolor abdominal.Objetivo. Describir las características de los pacientes con tumores germinales gonadales en un centro de referencia de cáncer pediátrico en Colombia.Materiales y métodos. Este artículo hace una revisión retrospectiva recopilando 20 años de experiencia en el diagnóstico y manejo de estos tumores en la Fundación Hospital de la Misericordia.Resultados. Se encontraron 79 pacientes, 35 hombres y 44 mujeres, con un promedio de edad, al diagnóstico, de 6 años. El teratoma fue la neoplasia más frecuente en el sexo femenino y el tumor del seno endodérmico en el masculino. El 70,9% de los pacientes se diagnosticaron en estadio I; se tienen datos de marcadores tumorales en 84,8%. El 98,7% se manejaron con cirugía y 58,2% recibieron además quimioterapia, especialmente protocolo BEP. 96% alcanzaron remisión de la enfermedad, 3 pacientes fallecieron.Conclusiones. El estudio demuestra buenos resultados en el manejo de los tumores germinales gonadales con el protocolo establecido de manejo quirúrgico y quimioterapia, se encontró una baja tasa de recurrencia en el periodo evaluado y alto porcentaje de niños libres de enfermedad.Background. Además de usarla en nuestro hogar, se utiliza en gran variedad de procesos industriales para la transformación de materias primas en productos terminados. El agua usada industrialmente cambia su composición fisicoquímica, ya que agregamos un sinfín de compuestos orgánicos e inorgánicos. CIBERER : Spanish national network for research on rare diseases: A highly productive collaborative initiative
Altres ajuts: Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII); Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación.CIBER (Center for Biomedical Network Research; Centro de Investigación Biomédica En Red) is a public national consortium created in 2006 under the umbrella of the Spanish National Institute of Health Carlos III (ISCIII). This innovative research structure comprises 11 different specific areas dedicated to the main public health priorities in the National Health System. CIBERER, the thematic area of CIBER focused on rare diseases (RDs) currently consists of 75 research groups belonging to universities, research centers, and hospitals of the entire country. CIBERER's mission is to be a center prioritizing and favoring collaboration and cooperation between biomedical and clinical research groups, with special emphasis on the aspects of genetic, molecular, biochemical, and cellular research of RDs. This research is the basis for providing new tools for the diagnosis and therapy of low-prevalence diseases, in line with the International Rare Diseases Research Consortium (IRDiRC) objectives, thus favoring translational research between the scientific environment of the laboratory and the clinical setting of health centers. In this article, we intend to review CIBERER's 15-year journey and summarize the main results obtained in terms of internationalization, scientific production, contributions toward the discovery of new therapies and novel genes associated to diseases, cooperation with patients' associations and many other topics related to RD research
Geographic patterns of tree dispersal modes in Amazonia and their ecological correlates
Aim: To investigate the geographic patterns and ecological correlates in the geographic distribution of the most common tree dispersal modes in Amazonia (endozoochory, synzoochory, anemochory and hydrochory). We examined if the proportional abundance of these dispersal modes could be explained by the availability of dispersal agents (disperser-availability hypothesis) and/or the availability of resources for constructing zoochorous fruits (resource-availability hypothesis).
Time period: Tree-inventory plots established between 1934 and 2019.
Major taxa studied: Trees with a diameter at breast height (DBH) ≥ 9.55 cm.
Location: Amazonia, here defined as the lowland rain forests of the Amazon River basin and the Guiana Shield.
Methods: We assigned dispersal modes to a total of 5433 species and morphospecies within 1877 tree-inventory plots across terra-firme, seasonally flooded, and permanently flooded forests. We investigated geographic patterns in the proportional abundance of dispersal modes. We performed an abundance-weighted mean pairwise distance (MPD) test and fit generalized linear models (GLMs) to explain the geographic distribution of dispersal modes.
Results: Anemochory was significantly, positively associated with mean annual wind speed, and hydrochory was significantly higher in flooded forests. Dispersal modes did not consistently show significant associations with the availability of resources for constructing zoochorous fruits. A lower dissimilarity in dispersal modes, resulting from a higher dominance of endozoochory, occurred in terra-firme forests (excluding podzols) compared to flooded forests.
Main conclusions: The disperser-availability hypothesis was well supported for abiotic dispersal modes (anemochory and hydrochory). The availability of resources for constructing zoochorous fruits seems an unlikely explanation for the distribution of dispersal modes in Amazonia. The association between frugivores and the proportional abundance of zoochory requires further research, as tree recruitment not only depends on dispersal vectors but also on conditions that favour or limit seedling recruitment across forest types
Geography and ecology shape the phylogenetic composition of Amazonian tree communities

Previous studies have shown that tree lineages colonized multiple edaphic environments and dispersed widely across Amazonia, leading to a hypothesis, which we test, that lineages should not be strongly associated with either geographic regions or edaphic forest types.LocationAmazonia.TaxonAngiosperms (Magnoliids; Monocots; Eudicots).MethodsData for the abundance of 5082 tree species in 1989 plots were combined with a mega-phylogeny. We tested the indicator value of lineages for geographic regions and edaphic forest types and mapped associations onto the phylogeny.ResultsIn the terra firme and várzea forest types, the phylogenetic composition varies by geographic region, but the igapó and white-sand forest types retain a unique evolutionary signature regardless of region. Overall, we find that soil chemistry, climate and topography explain 24% of the variation in phylogenetic composition, with 79% of that variation being spatially structured (R2 = 19% overall for combined spatial/environmental effects). The phylogenetic composition also shows substantial spatial patterns not related to the environmental variables we quantified (R2 = 28%). A greater number of lineages were significant indicators of geographic regions than forest types.Main ConclusionNumerous tree lineages, including some ancient ones (>66 Ma), show strong associations with geographic regions and edaphic forest types of Amazonia. Mapping density, diversity and species-richness of the Amazon tree flora
Using 2.046 botanically-inventoried tree plots across the largest tropical forest on Earth, we mapped tree species-diversity and tree species-richness at 0.1-degree resolution, and investigated drivers for diversity and richness. Using only location, stratified by forest type, as predictor, our spatial model, to the best of our knowledge, provides the most accurate map of tree diversity in Amazonia to date, explaining approximately 70% of the tree diversity and species-richness. Large soil-forest combinations determine a significant percentage of the variation in tree species-richness and tree alpha-diversity in Amazonian forest-plots. We suggest that the size and fragmentation of these systems drive their large-scale diversity patterns and hence local diversity. A model not using location but cumulative water deficit, tree density, and temperature seasonality explains 47% of the tree species-richness in the terra-firme forest in Amazonia. Over large areas across Amazonia, residuals of this relationship are small and poorly spatially structured, suggesting that much of the residual variation may be local. The Guyana Shield area has consistently negative residuals, showing that this area has lower tree species-richness than expected by our models.
