Active distribution power system with multi-terminal DC links

    Get PDF
A fast power restoration operational scheme and relevant stabilizing control is proposed for active distribution power systems with multi-terminal DC network in replacement of the conventional normal open switches. A 9-feeder benchmark distribution power system is established with a 4-terminal medium power DC system injected. The proposed power restoration scheme is based on the coordination among distributed control among relays, load switches, voltage source converters and autonomous operation of multi-terminal DC system. A DC stabilizer is proposed with virtual impedance method to damp out potential oscillation caused by constant power load terminals. The proposed system and controls are validated by frequency domain state space model and time domain case study with Matlab/Simulink

    Proton fraction in neutron stars

The proton fraction in {\sl \beta}-stable neutron stars is investigated within the framework of the Skyrme-Hartree-Fock theory using the extended Skyrme effective interaction for the first time. The calculated results show that the proton fraction disappears at high density, which implies that the pure neutron matter may exist in the interior of neutron stars. The incompressibility of the nuclear equation of state is shown to be more important to determine the proton fraction. Meanwhile, it is indicated that the addition of muons in neutron stars will change the proton fraction. It is also found that the higher-order terms of the nuclear symmetry energy have obvious effects on the proton fraction and the parabolic law of the nuclear symmetry energy is not enough to determine the proton fraction.Comment: 4 Pgaes in REVTex, 2 Figures, 1 Tabl

Flexible Multi-Group Single-Carrier Modulation: Optimal Subcarrier Grouping and Rate Maximization

Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) and single-carrier frequency domain equalization (SC-FDE) are two commonly adopted modulation schemes for frequency-selective channels. Compared to SC-FDE, OFDM generally achieves higher data rate, but at the cost of higher transmit signal peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) that leads to lower power amplifier efficiency. This paper proposes a new modulation scheme, called flexible multi-group single-carrier (FMG-SC), which encapsulates both OFDM and SC-FDE as special cases, thus achieving more flexible rate-PAPR trade-offs between them. Specifically, a set of frequency subcarriers are flexibly divided into orthogonal groups based on their channel gains, and SC-FDE is applied over each of the groups to send different data streams in parallel. We aim to maximize the achievable sum-rate of all groups by optimizing the subcarrier-group mapping. We propose two low-complexity subcarrier grouping methods and show via simulation that they perform very close to the optimal grouping by exhaustive search. Simulation results also show the effectiveness of the proposed FMG-SC modulation scheme with optimized subcarrier grouping in improving the rate-PAPR trade-off over conventional OFDM and SC-FDE.Comment: Submitted for possible conference publicatio

Error probability and capacity analysis of generalised pre-coding aided spatial modulation

The recently proposed multiple input multiple output (MIMO) transmission scheme termed as generalized pre-coding aided spatial modulation (GPSM) is analyzed, where the key idea is that a particular subset of receive antennas is activated and the specific activation pattern itself conveys useful implicit information. We provide the upper bound of both the symbol error ratio (SER) and bit error ratio (BER) expression of the GPSM scheme of a low-complexity decoupled detector. Furthermore, the corresponding discrete-input continuous-output memoryless channel (DCMC) capacity as well as the achievable rate is quantified. Our analytical SER and BER upper bound expressions are confirmed to be tight by our numerical results. We also show that our GPSM scheme constitutes a flexible MIMO arrangement and there is always a beneficial configuration for our GPSM scheme that offers the same bandwidth efficiency as that of its conventional MIMO counterpart at a lower signal to noise ratio (SNR) per bit
