A Review on Liao’s Dissertation Entitled “The Solutions on Multi-choice Games” and Related Publications

In 2007, Liao finished his Ph.d. dissertation[18](Liao 2007) entitled “The Solutions on Multi-choice Games”. Chapter 1 of the dissertation mainly worked on two special cases of the H&R multi-choice Shapley value. One assumes that the weight function w(j) is a positive constant function for all j 6= 0 with w(0) = 0 and the other one assumes that the weight function w(j) = j for all j. If w(j) ’s are equal for all j > 0 then the formula of H&R multi-choice Shapley value can be significantly simplified to the original formula of the traditional Shapley value for the traditional games. Therefore, as a matter of fact, Definitions 1 and 2 in Chapter 1 of the dissertation [18] are simply the traditional Shapley value. Hence, in most part of Chapter 1, Liao was just writing “new results” of traditional games in terms of the notations of multi-choice games. Furthermore, the dissertation [18] did not cited [7](1994), [8](1995a) and [10](1996) which held the original ideas of its main part of chapter 1.Multi-choice TU games, Shapley value, potential, w-consistency

Relationship of land use/cover on water quality in the Liao River basin, China

AbstractA total of 76 sampling sites were selected in the Liao River basin (21.9×104km2). During the period of 2009-2010, 58 water samples were collected in 2010 and 42 were collected in 2009, physical-chemical variables were analyzed to investigate their spatial-temporal variability in particular the relationship with land use /cover. The results indicated that physical and chemical properties showed obvious spatial heterogeneity in the Liao River basin. Taizi River and Hun River are located in the southeast of the basin, the water quality for two sub-basins: water quality in upstream is better than that in downstream, water quality level in downstream was classified into IV-V. There were no obvious features in the East Liao River basin, water quality in downstream was classified into III level. West Liao River run for many years, water quality was classified into IV. Big Liao River basin was located in middle and east of the Liao River basin. Water quality was classified into V. Correlation and regression analysis indicated that BOD5, COD, sediment, hardness and nitrate–nitrogen (NO3−–N), total dissolved particular (TDP) were significantly related to land use for forest and agriculture

Alignment and orientation of an adsorbed dipole molecule

Half-cycle laser pulse is applied on an absorbed molecule to investigate its alignment and orientation behavior. Crossover from field-free to hindered rotation motion is observed by varying the angel of hindrance of potential well. At small hindered angle, both alignment and orientation show sinusoidal-like behavior because of the suppression of higher excited states. However, mean alignment decreases monotonically as the hindered angle is increased, while mean orientation displays a minimum point at certain hindered angle. The reason is attributed to the symmetry of wavefunction and can be explained well by analyzing the coefficients of eigenstates.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, to appear in Phys. Rev. B (2004

Moral Status, Speciesism, and Liao’s Genetic Account

This paper offers several criticisms of the account of rightholding laid out in S. Matthew Liao’s recent paper “The Basis of Human Moral Status.” I argue that Liao’s account both does too much and too little: it grants rightholder status to those who may not deserve it, and it does not provide grounds for offering such status to those who arguably do deserve it. Given these troubling aspects of his approach, I encourage Liao to abandon his “physical basis of moral agency” account of moral status and instead adopt a position closer to a traditional “speciesist” view

InGaAs implant-free quantum-well MOSFETs: performance evaluation using 3D Monte Carlo simulation

In this paper we use numerical simulations to evaluate the performance of III-V Implant-Free Quantum-Well (IFQW) MOSFET devices that offer simultaneously high channel mobility, high drive current and excellent electrostatic integrity. Using 3D Monte Carlo simulations we show that to fully understand the performance of this device architecture, Fermi-Dirac statistics and quantum-corrections must be considered to account for the impact of low density-of-states and quantum confinement in the channel layer respectively

Presents a new approach to the Navier-Stokes turbulence. With the Gaussian soft constraint on the Navier-Stokes equation, the author derives the energy spectrum to be E(k) approximately k^-3 and k^-2 in two and three spatial dimensions respectively. The possible future developments are also pointed out
