    Fabrication and Properties of Carbon- Encapsulated Cobalt Nanoparticles over NaCl by CVD

    Carbon-encapsulated cobalt (Co@C) nanoparticles, with a tunable structure, were synthesized by chemical vapor deposition using Co nanoparticles as the catalyst and supported on a water-soluble substrate (sodium chloride), which was easily removed by washing and centrifugation. The influences of growth temperature and time on the structure and magnetic properties of the Co@C nanoparticles were systematically investigated. For different growth temperatures, the magnetic Co nanoparticles were encapsulated by different types of carbon layers, including amorphous carbon layers, graphitic layers, and carbon nanofibers. This inferred a close relationship between the structure of the carbon-encapsulated metal nanoparticles and the growth temperature. At a fixed growth temperature of 400 °C, prolonged growth time caused an increase in thickness of the carbon layers. The magnetic characterization indicated that the magnetic properties of the obtained Co@C nanoparticles depend not only on the graphitization but also on the thickness of the encapsulated carbon layer, which were easily controlled by the growth temperatures and times. Optimization of the synthesis process allowed achieving relatively high coercivity of the synthesized Co@C nanoparticles and enhancement of its ferromagnetic properties, which make this system promising as a magnetic material, particularly for high-density magnetic recording applications

    Elucidating the complex interplay between natural and anthropogenic factors in the deformation of the Muyubao landslide through time-series InSAR analysis

    In the Three Gorges Reservoir area, landslide disasters occur frequently, making scientific monitoring and risk prediction crucial for disaster prevention and mitigation. However, most previous studies have been constrained by analysis of singular influencing factors. In this study, we employed multi-temporal InSAR techniques coupled with multivariate geospatial statistical analysis to monitor and analyze the dynamic evolution of the Muyuba landslide in Zigui County, Hubei Province, China from 2016 to 2023. The findings indicate that the Muyuba landslide was predominantly characterized by continuous, gradual subsidence. Key factors inducing deformation included well-developed drainage networks, gentle slopes of 15–30°, and the orientation of rock strata. Deformation rates in residential areas and along roadways exceeded background levels, implicating anthropogenic activities in the heightened landslide risk. A significant correlation was observed between landslide deformation and reservoir water level fluctuations, as opposed to rainfall patterns, highlighting reservoir regulation disturbances as a critical landslide triggering factor

    Theabrownin ameliorates liver inflammation, oxidative stress, and fibrosis in MCD diet-fed C57BL/6J mice

    IntroductionNonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), also known as metabolic steatohepatitis, is a clinical syndrome with pathological changes like alcoholic hepatitis but without a history of excessive alcohol consumption. NASH is closely related to metabolic disorders such as obesity, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and hyperlipidemia. Its main characteristics are hepatocyte steatosis with hepatocyte injury and inflammation. In severe cases, it can develop into liver cirrhosis. At present, there is no special treatment for NASH. Theabrownin (TB) is the main pigment substance in fermented tea. Theabrownin has beneficial effects on lipid metabolism and intestinal flora. However, the effect of theabrownin on NASH has not been studied. MethodsThis study was aimed at exploring the effects of theabrownin from Fuzhuan brick tea on NASH. 8-week-old mice were randomly assigned to three groups and fed with chow diet (CD), methionine and choline sufficient (MCS) diet (MCS Ctrl), which is a Methionine/choline deficient (MCD) control diet, and MCD diet. After 5 weeks of feeding, the MCD group mice were randomly divided into two groups and were gavaged with double distilled water (MCD Ctrl) or theabrownin (MCD TB) (200mg/kg body weight, dissolved in double distilled water) every day for another 4 weeks respectively, while continuing MCD diet feeding.ResultsWe found that theabrownin treatment could not improve liver mass loss and steatosis. However, theabrownin ameliorated liver injury and decreased liver inflammatory response. Theabrownin also alleviated liver oxidative stress and fibrosis. Furthermore, our results showed that theabrownin increased hepatic level of fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) and reduced the phosphorylation of mitogen-activated protein kinase p38 in MCD diet-fed mice
