Note on neutron star equation of state in the light of GW170817

From the very first multimessenger event of GW170817, clean robust constraints can be obtained for the tidal deformabilities of the two stars involved in the merger, which provides us unique opportunity to study the equation of states (EOSs) of dense stellar matter. In this contribution, we employ a model from the quark level, describing consistently a nucleon and many-body nucleonic system from a quark potential. We check that our sets of EOSs are consistent with available experimental and observational constraints at both sub-nuclear saturation densities and higher densities. The agreements with ab-initio calculations are also good. Especially, we tune the density dependence of the symmetry energy (characterized by its slope at nuclear saturation LL) and study its influence on the tidal deformability. The so-called QMF18QMF18 EOS is named after the case of L=40 MeVL=40~\rm MeV, and it gives MTOV=2.08 M⊙M_{\rm TOV} =2.08~M_\odot and R=11.77 kmR= 11.77~\rm km, Λ=331\Lambda=331 for a 1.4 M⊙1.4\,M_\odot star. The tidal signals are demonstrated to be insensitive to the uncertain crust-core matching, despite the good correlation between the symmetry energy slope and the radius of the star.Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures, Submitted to the AIP Proceedings of the Xiamen-CUSTIPEN Workshop on the EOS of Dense Neutron-Rich Matter in the Era of Gravitational Wave Astronomy, Jan. 3-7, Xiamen, Chin

Indirect unitarity violation entangled with matter effects in reactor antineutrino oscillations

If finite but tiny masses of the three active neutrinos are generated via the canonical seesaw mechanism with three heavy sterile neutrinos, the 3\times 3 Pontecorvo-Maki-Nakagawa-Sakata neutrino mixing matrix V will not be exactly unitary. This kind of indirect unitarity violation can be probed in a precision reactor antineutrino oscillation experiment, but it may be entangled with terrestrial matter effects as both of them are very small. We calculate the probability of \overline{\nu}_e \to \overline{\nu}_e oscillations in a good analytical approximation, and find that, besides the zero-distance effect, the effect of unitarity violation is always smaller than matter effects, and their entanglement does not appear until the next-to-leading-order oscillating terms are taken into account. Given a 20-kiloton JUNO-like liquid scintillator detector, we reaffirm that terrestrial matter effects should not be neglected but indirect unitarity violation makes no difference, and demonstrate that the experimental sensitivities to the neutrino mass ordering and a precision measurement of \theta_{12} and \Delta_{21} \equiv m^2_2 - m^2_1 are robust.Comment: 21 pages, 6 figures, version to be published in PLB, more discussions adde

Analytical result on the supercurrent through a superconductor/quantum-dot/superconductor junction

We present an analytical result for the supercurrent across a superconductor/quantum-dot/superconductor junction. By converting the current integration into a special contour integral, we can express the current as a sum of the residues of poles. These poles are real and give a natural definition of the Andreev bound states. We also use the exact result to explain some features of the supercurrent transport behavior.Comment: 8 pages, 2 figure

    Nonlinear reconstruction

We present a direct approach to nonparametrically reconstruct the linear density field from an observed nonlinear map. We solve for the unique displacement potential consistent with the nonlinear density and positive definite coordinate transformation using a multigrid algorithm. We show that we recover the linear initial conditions up to the nonlinear scale (rδrδL>0.5r_{\delta_r\delta_L}>0.5 for k≲1 h/Mpck\lesssim1\ h/\mathrm{Mpc}) with minimal computational cost. This reconstruction approach generalizes the linear displacement theory to fully nonlinear fields, potentially substantially expanding the baryon acoustic oscillations and redshift space distortions information content of dense large scale structure surveys, including for example SDSS main sample and 21cm intensity mapping initiatives.Comment: 7 pages, 7 figures, published versio
