Annealing effects on superconductivity in SrFe2-xNixAs2
Superconductivity has been explored in single crystals of the Ni-doped
FeAs-compound SrFe2-xNixAs2 grown by self-flux solution method. The
antiferromagnetic order associated with the magnetostructural transition of the
parent compound SrFe2As2 is gradually suppressed with increasing Ni
concentration x and bulk-phase superconductivity with full diamagnetic
screening is induced near the optimal doping of x = 0.15 with a maximum
transition temperature Tc ~9.8 K. An investigation of high-temperature
annealing on as-grown samples indicate that the heat treatment can enhance Tc
as much as ~50 %
Depairing field, onset temperature and the nature of the transition in cuprates
The depairing (upper critical) field in hole-doped cuprates has been
inferred from magnetization curves - measured by torque magnetometry in
fields up to 45 T. We discuss the implications of the results for the pair
binding energy, the Nernst onset temperature, fluctuations and the nature of

On the Algebraic Structure of Gravitational Descendants in CP(n-1) Coset Models
We investigate how specific free-field realizations of twisted N=2
supersymmetric coset models give rise to natural extensions of the ``matter''
Hilbert spaces in such a manner as to incorporate the various gravitational
excitations. In particular, we show that adopting a particular screening
prescription is equivalent to imposing the requisite equivariance condition on
cohomology. We find a simple algebraic characterization of the
-gravitational ground ring spectra of these theories in terms of

Entropy and the variational principle for actions of sofic groups
Recently Lewis Bowen introduced a notion of entropy for measure-preserving
actions of a countable sofic group on a standard probability space admitting a
generating partition with finite entropy. By applying an operator algebra
perspective we develop a more general approach to sofic entropy which produces
both measure and topological dynamical invariants, and we establish the
variational principle in this context. In the case of residually finite groups
we use the variational principle to compute the topological entropy of
principal algebraic actions whose defining group ring element is invertible in

An Obstruction to Quantization of the Sphere
In the standard example of strict deformation quantization of the symplectic
sphere , the set of allowed values of the quantization parameter
is not connected; indeed, it is almost discrete. Li recently constructed a
class of examples (including ) in which can take any value in an
interval, but these examples are badly behaved. Here, I identify a natural
additional axiom for strict deformation quantization and prove that it implies

The use of GPS-arrays in detecting shock-acoustic waves generated during rocket launchings
This paper is concerned with the form and dynamics of shock-acoustic waves
(SAW) generated during rocket launchings. We have developed a method for
determining SAW parameters (including angular characteristics of the wave
vector, and the SAW phase velocity, as well as the direction towards the
source) using GPS-arrays whose elements can be chosen out of a large set of
GPS-stations of the global GPS network. The application of the method is
illustrated by a case study of ionospheric effects from launchings of launch
vehicles (LV) Proton and Space Shuttle from space-launch complexes Baikonur and
Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in 1998 and 1999 (a total of five launchings). The
study revealed that, in spite of a difference of LV characteristics, the
ionospheric response for all launchings had the character of an N - wave
corresponding to the form of a shock wave, regardless of the disturbance source
(rocket launchings, industrial explosions). The SAW period T is 270--360 s, and
the amplitude exceeds the standard deviation of TEC background fluctuations in
this range of periods under quiet and moderate geomagnetic conditions by
factors of 2 to 5 as a minimum. The angle of elevation of the SAW wave vector
varies from 30 degree to 60 degree, and the SAW phase velocity (900-1200 m/s)
approaches the sound velocity at heights of the ionospheric F-region maximum.Comment: EmTeX-386, 23 pages, 6 figure
Ferredoxin 1b deficiency leads to testis disorganization, impaired spermatogenesis and feminization in zebrafish
The roles of steroids in zebrafish sex differentiation, gonadal development and function of the adult gonad are poorly understood. Herein, we have employed a ferredoxin 1b (fdx1b) mutant zebrafish to explore such processes. Fdx1b is an essential electron-providing cofactor to mitochondrial steroidogenic enzymes, which are crucial for glucocorticoid and androgen production in vertebrates. Fdx1b-/- zebrafish mutants develop into viable adults, in which concentrations of androgens and the glucocorticoid, cortisol, are significantly reduced. Adult fdx1b-/- mutant zebrafish display predominantly female secondary sex characteristics but may possess either ovaries or testes, confirming that androgen signaling is dispensable for testicular differentiation in this species, as previously demonstrated in androgen receptor mutant zebrafish. Adult male fdx1b-/- mutant zebrafish do not exhibit characteristic breeding behaviors, and sperm production is reduced, resulting in infertility in standard breeding scenarios. However, eggs collected from wild-type females can be fertilized by the sperm of fdx1b-/- mutant males by IVF. The testes of fdx1b-/- mutant males are disorganized and lack defined seminiferous tubule structure. Expression of several pro-male and spermatogenic genes is decreased in the testes of fdx1b-/- mutant males, including pro-male transcription factor SRY-box 9a (sox9a) and spermatogenic genes insulin-like growth factor 3 (igf3) and insulin-like 3 (insl3). This study establishes an androgen- and cortisol-deficient fdx1b zebrafish mutant as a model for understanding the impacts of steroid deficiency on sex development and reproductive function. This model will be particularly useful for further investigation of the roles of steroids in spermatogenesis, gonadal development and regulation of reproductive behavior, thus enabling further elucidation of the physiological consequences of endocrine disruption in vertebrates

In this paper, we propose finite temperature Dirac equation, which can
describe the quantum systems in an arbitrary temperature for a relativistic
particle of spin-1/2. When the temperature T=0, it become Dirac equation. With
the equation, we can study the relativistic quantum systems in an arbitrary

Are Farmers Made Whole by Trade Aid?
The USDA provided roughly $23.5 billion in Market Facilitation Program payments to compensate farmers for market losses due to retaliatory tariffs imposed by China and other countries. We examine the distribution of these payments across crops, farms, and regions. Payment rates are larger than estimated price impacts of retaliatory tariffs for most commoditiesâthe difference is especially large for cotton and sorghum. Payment rates relative to farmland cash rent or on a per-farm basis are greatest in the South. While payments exceed the tariff-related price impact in the short run, the program may not compensate for long-run losses due to the trade conflict
