Inverse Projection Representation and Category Contribution Rate for Robust Tumor Recognition

Sparse representation based classification (SRC) methods have achieved remarkable results. SRC, however, still suffer from requiring enough training samples, insufficient use of test samples and instability of representation. In this paper, a stable inverse projection representation based classification (IPRC) is presented to tackle these problems by effectively using test samples. An IPR is firstly proposed and its feasibility and stability are analyzed. A classification criterion named category contribution rate is constructed to match the IPR and complete classification. Moreover, a statistical measure is introduced to quantify the stability of representation-based classification methods. Based on the IPRC technique, a robust tumor recognition framework is presented by interpreting microarray gene expression data, where a two-stage hybrid gene selection method is introduced to select informative genes. Finally, the functional analysis of candidate's pathogenicity-related genes is given. Extensive experiments on six public tumor microarray gene expression datasets demonstrate the proposed technique is competitive with state-of-the-art methods.Comment: 14 pages, 19 figures, 10 table

A novel type of spiral wave with trapped ions

Pattern formation in ultra-cold quantum systems has recently received a great deal of attention. In this work, we investigate a two-dimensional model system accounting for the dynamics of trapped ions. We find a novel spiral wave which is rigidly rotating but with a peculiar core region in which adjacent ions oscillate in anti-phase. The formation of this novel spiral wave is ascribed to the novel excitability reported by Lee and Cross. The breakup of the novel spiral wave is probed and, especially, one extraordinary scenario of the disappearance of spiral wave caused by spontaneous expansion of the anti-phased core is unveiled.Comment: 4 pages,4 figure

The title molecule, C14H10Cl4Se, features a selenide bridge between two dichlorobenzyl units. The dihedral angle between the two benzene rings is 107.9 (16)°. In the crystal, weak π–π face-to-face aromatic interactions are observed [centroid–centroid distance between two adjacent (but crystallographically different) phenyl rings = 3.885 (5) Å], providing some packing stability. Short Cl⋯Cl contacts of 3.41 (2) Å are observed

Identification of a novel strain of human papillomavirus from children with diarrhea in China

A highly divergent human papillomavirus (HPV) strain, HPV-L55, was identified in fecal samples from children hospitalized with diarrhea in China. The L1 gene of HPV-L55 shares <75% identity with previously reported HPVs, indicating that this virus represents a novel type of HPV. Phylogenetic analysis classified this virus as a member of the gammapapillomaviruses

BACKGROUND: Pigs are well known source of human infectious disease. To better understand the spectrum of viruses present in pigs, we utilized the 454 Life Sciences GS-FLX high-throughput sequencing platform to sequence stool samples from healthy pigs. FINDINGS: Total nucleic acid was extracted from stool samples of healthy piglets and randomly amplified. The amplified materials were pooled and processed using a high-throughput pyrosequencing technique. The raw sequences were deconvoluted on the basis of the barcode and then processed through a standardized bioinformatics pipeline. The unique reads (348, 70 and 13) had limited similarity to known astroviruses, bocaviruses and parechoviruses. Specific primers were synthesized to assess the prevalence of the viruses in healthy piglets. Our results indicate extremely high rates of positivity. CONCLUSIONS: Several novel astroviruses, bocaviruses and Ljungan-like viruses were identified in stool samples from healthy pigs. The rates of isolation for the new viruses were high. The high detection rate, diverse sequences and categories indicate that pigs are well-established reservoirs for and likely sources of different enteric viruses

A comprehensive working state monitoring method for power battery packs considering state of balance and aging correction.

A comprehensive working state monitoring method is proposed to protect the power lithium-ion battery packs, implying accurate estimation effect but using minimal time demand of self-learning treatment. A novel state of charge estimation model is conducted by using the improved unscented Kalman filtering method, in which the state of balance and aging process correction is considered, guaranteeing the powered battery supply reliability effectively. In order to realize the equilibrium state evaluation among the internal battery cells, the numerical description and evaluation is putting forward, in which the improved variation coefficient is introduced into the iterative calculation process. The intermittent measurement and real-time calibration calculation process is applied to characterize the capacity change of the battery pack towards the cycling maintenance number, according to which the aging process impact correction can be investigated. This approach is different to the traditional methods by considering the multi-input parameters with real-time correction, in which every calculation step is investigated to realize the working state estimation by using the synthesis algorithm. The state of charge estimation error is 1.83%, providing the technical support for the reliable power supply application of the lithium-ion battery packs
