    Analysis on Residents’ Travel Activity Pattern in Historic Urban Areas: A Case Study of Historic Urban Area of Yangzhou, China

    Travel behaviors and activity patterns in the historic urban area of a city are expected to be different from the overall situations in the city area. The primary objective of this study is to analyze the residents’ travel activity patterns in historic urban area. Based on survey data conducted in the historic urban area of Yangzhou, the travel activities of local residents in a whole day were classified into five types of patterns. The multinomial logit (MNL) model was developed to evaluate the impacts of explanatory variables on the choices of activity patterns. The results showed that the choice of activity pattern was significantly impacted by five contributing factors including the gender, age, occupation, car ownership, and number of electric bikes in household. The other variables, which were the family population, preschoolers, number of conventional bikes in household, motorcycle ownership, and income, were found to be not significantly related to the choice of activities. The results of this study from historic urban area were compared to findings of previous studies from overall urban area. The comparison showed that the impacts of factors on activity pattern in the historic urban area were different from those in the overall area. Findings of this study provide important suggestions for the policy makings to improve the traffic situations in historic urban areas of cities

    Comparative genomics analysis of Stenotrophomonas maltophilia strains from a community

    BackgroundStenotrophomonas maltophilia is a multidrug-resistant (MDR) opportunistic pathogen with high resistance to most clinically used antimicrobials. The dissemination of MDR S. maltophilia and difficult treatment of its infection in clinical settings are global issues.MethodsTo provide more genetic information on S. maltophilia and find a better treatment strategy, we isolated five S. maltophilia, SMYN41–SMYN45, from a Chinese community that were subjected to antibiotic susceptibility testing, biofilm formation assay, and whole-genome sequencing. Whole-genome sequences were compared with other thirty-seven S. maltophilia sequences.ResultsThe five S. maltophilia strains had similar antibiotic resistance profiles and were resistant to β-lactams, aminoglycosides, and macrolides. They showed similar antimicrobial resistance (AMR) genes, including various efflux pumps, β-lactamase resistance genes (blaL1/2), aminoglycoside resistance genes [aac(6’), aph(3’/6)], and macrolide-resistant gene (MacB). Genome sequencing analysis revealed that SMYN41-SMYN45 belonged to sequence type 925 (ST925), ST926, ST926, ST31, and ST928, respectively, and three new STs were identified (ST925, ST926, and ST928).ConclusionThis study provides genetic information by comparing genome sequences of several S. maltophilia isolates from a community of various origins, with the aim of optimizing empirical antibiotic medication and contributing to worldwide efforts to tackle antibiotic resistance

    Case report: Targeted sequencing facilitates the diagnosis and management of rare multifocal pure ground-glass opacities with intrapulmonary metastasis

    IntroductionTreatments for multiple ground-glass opacities (GGOs) for which the detection rate is increasing are still controversial. Next-generation sequencing (NGS) may provide additional key evidence for differential diagnosis or optimal therapeutic schedules.Case presentationWe first reported a rare case in which more than 100 bilateral pulmonary GGOs (91.7% of the GGOs were pure GGOs) were diagnosed as both multiple primary lung cancer and intrapulmonary metastasis. We performed NGS with an 808-gene panel to assess both somatic and germline alterations in tissues and plasma. The patient (male) underwent three successive surgeries and received osimertinib adjuvant therapy due to signs of metastasis and multiple EGFR-mutated tumors. The patient had multiple pure GGOs, and eight tumors of four pathological subtypes were evaluated for the clonal relationship. Metastasis, including pure GGOs and atypical adenomatous hyperplasia, was found between two pairs of tumors. Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) monitoring of disease status may impact clinical decision-making.ConclusionsSurgery combined with targeted therapies remains a reasonable alternative strategy for treating patients with multifocal GGOs, and NGS is valuable for facilitating diagnostic workup and adjuvant therapy with targeted drugs through tissue and disease monitoring via ctDNA

    Impact of the Olympic Games on the host city's lodging market

    Miller, BrianThe Olympic Games, a sports mega-event, receives tremendous worldwide attention. Many industries of host countries have seen distinct benefits from hosting the Olympic Games. The tourism and hospitality industry also has been affected dramatically because of the short-term concentration of visitors. This major change is readily observed in the host city's lodging market. This study investigates the host city's response to the Olympic Games which is demonstrated by the change in the six metrics of the hotel industry: supply, demand, occupancy rate (Occ), average daily rate (ADR), revenue, and revenue for per available room (RevPAR). All data is sourced from Smith Travel Research Global having been collected from four years prior to the Olympic Games until two years after the Olympic Games. Two Summer Olympic Games and two Winter Olympic Games host cities are discussed in this study: Sydney 2000 Summer Olympic Games, Athens 2004 Summer Olympic Games, Turin 2006 Winter Olympic Games, and Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games. The change of the six important metrics in the hotel industry shows how the host city's lodging market is affected by the Olympic Games. The results clearly show that the host city's lodging market reacts significantly to the Olympic Games. The six metrics of the lodging market of the four host cities improved tremendously during the Olympic Games but showed different trends before and after the Olympic Games. On the basis of MATLAB platform, this paper constructs a fault diagnosis expert system of artificial intelligence machine based on the probabilistic neural network, and it also carries out a simulation of production process by the use of bionic algorithm. This paper makes a diagnosis of transformer fault by the use of an expert system developed by this paper, and verifies that the probabilistic neural network has a good convergence, fault-tolerant ability and big data handling capability in the fault diagnosis. It is suitable for industrial production, which can provide a reliable mathematical model for the construction of fault diagnosis expert system in the industrial production

    Fire Control System Operation Status Assessment Based on Information Fusion: Case Study

    In traditional fault diagnosis strategies, massive and disordered data cannot be utilized effectively. Furthermore, just a single parameter is used for fault diagnosis of a weapons fire control system, which might lead to uncertainty in the results. This paper proposes an information fusion method in which rough set theory (RST) is combined with an improved Dempster–Shafer (DS) evidence theory to identify various system operation states. First, the feature information of different faults is extracted from the original data, then this information is used as the evidence of the state for a diagnosis object. By introducing RST, the extracted fault information is reduced in terms of the number of attributes, and the basic probability value of the reduced fault information is obtained. Based on an analysis of conflicts in the existing DS evidence theory, an improved conflict evidence synthesis method is proposed, which combines the improved synthesis rule and the conflict evidence weight allocation methods. Then, an intelligent evaluation model for the fire control system operation state is established, which is based on the improved evidence theory and RST. The case of a power supply module in a fire control computer is analyzed. In this case, the state grade of the power supply module is evaluated by the proposed method, and the conclusion verifies the effectiveness of the proposed method in evaluating the operation state of a fire control system

    Nonlinear Active Disturbance Rejection Control of VGT-EGR System in Diesel Engines

    In this paper, a nonlinear active disturbance rejection control (NLADRC) strategy based on nonlinear extended state observer (NLESO) is proposed to solve the unmodeled dynamics, coupling and disturbance due to change of working point in the variable geometry turbine (VGT) and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system, so as to achieve accurate control of intake manifold pressure and mass air flow in a diesel engine. To achieve decoupling, the double-input double-output (DIDO) VGT-EGR system is decomposed into two single-input single-output (SISO) subsystems, and each subsystem has a separate nonlinear active disturbance rejection controller. At the same time, the convergence proof of the designed NLESO is also given theoretically. Finally, the NLADRC controller is compared with linear active disturbance rejection controller and proportional–integral–derivative (PID) controller. Through simulation, it is indicated that the proposed NLADRC controller has better transient response performance, resistance to external disturbance and robustness to the change of engine operating point
