Factors Affecting Trust in Chinese Digital Journalism: Approach Based on Folk Theories

    Get PDF
Trust in online digital news has become a significant concern affecting social cohesion in China. Under the framework of folk theories, we interviewed urban and rural residents' perceptions and imaginations of digital news credibility in China's digital journalism environment. The study finds that digital media giants in China are utilised by both urban and rural residents. Regarding the behaviour of news avoidance, scepticism of digital news accounts for only a tiny fraction of the reasons held by news avoiders. Chinese urban and rural residents have similar perceptions about the impact of news forms, quality of information, and individual stances on digital news, while rural residents show uncertainty about the transparency of news production, which may be related to their education level and media literacy. The relationship between recommendation algorithms and news trust is overlooked by respondents. In addition, news seekers are more likely to display herd behaviours, which may mislead their judgment of news credibility. News avoiders may refuse to consume news because of their distaste for China's digital news atmosphere, such as the ubiquity of unpleasant emotions, preconceived opinions, and attention-grabbing clickbait headlines

Trichosporon asahii (T. asahii) has emerged as a dangerous pathogen that causes rare but life-threatening infections. Its resistance to certain antifungal agents makes it difficult to treat, especially for patients undergoing long-term antibiotic therapy. In this study, we performed a series of fluconazole (FLC) perturbation experiments for two T. asahii strains, a clinical isolate stain CBS 2479 (T2) and an environmental isolate strain CBS 8904 (T8), to uncover potential genes and pathways involved in FLC resistance. We achieved 10 transcriptomes of T2 and T8 that were based on dose and time series of FLC perturbations. Systematic comparisons of the transcriptomes revealed 32 T2 genes and 25 T8 genes that are highly sensitive to different FLC perturbations. In both T2 and T8 strains with the phenotype of FLC resistance, the processes of oxidation-reduction and transmembrane transport were detected to be significantly changed. The antifungal susceptibility testing of FLC and penicillin revealed their resistance pathways are merged. Accumulated mutations were found in 564 T2 and 225 T8 genes, including four highly mutated genes that are functionally related to the target of rapamycin complex (TOR). Our study provides abundant data towards genome-wide understanding of the molecular basis of FLC resistance in T. asahii

In this research, the tests of collapsible sensitivity of loess in acid environment were carried out. On the basis of this experiment, this author draw on the experience of predecessors, and put forward two indexes of collapsibility sensitivity evaluation of loess and its site, which are the time to complete 90% of collapsibility and collapsibility coefficient. The method was verified by taking the site with excessive collapsibility as an example. The results show that the method can accurately reflect the collapsibility sensitivity of collapsible site, and has certain guiding significance for engineering construction on collapsible site. In addition, the method is simple, scientific, and can be combined with the current specifications. It is easy to be accepted and promoted by the industry, and is a useful supplement to the existing few researches on loess collapsibility sensitivity

Loss to follow-up associated factors in patients with chronic pulmonary aspergillosis and its impact on the disease prognosis

ObjectivePulmonary aspergillosis is a rare but challenging pulmonary disease. The conditions of patients with chronic pulmonary aspergillosis (CPA) can be even more complicated. The mortality rate of CPA remains high, and the prognostic factors are not well established due to a high proportion of loss to follow-up. In this study, we aim to explore factors associated with loss to follow-up in CPA patients and their impact on the disease prognosis after withdrawing anti-fungal treatments.MethodsPatients with confirmed CPA, who were admitted to the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University from March 2017 to November 2019, were enrolled in this prospective study. The enrolled patients were followed up for 6 months after discharge. For loss to follow-up patients, the reasons for loss to follow-up and their prognosis after withdrawing anti-fungal treatments during loss to follow-up were recorded by telephone communication. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to determine factors associated with loss to follow-up.ResultsThe 199 out of 298 screened patients were included in the study. Except for 67 cases with regular follow-up, the rest 132 cases were lost to follow-up. Factors, including age > 60 years (OR = 2.036, P = 0.03), monthly income ≤ $583 (OR = 5.568, P = 0.0001), education ≤ 6 years (OR = 7.474, P = 0.0001), and non-local residence (OR = 5.893, P = 0.0001) were associated with the loss to follow-up according to multivariate logistic regression analysis. The most common reasons for loss to follow-up were economic factors and clinic visit distance. The overall case fatality rate (CFR) within 180 days in patients with regular follow-up and patients who stopped anti-fungal treatment during the loss to follow-up was 0% and 19.65%, respectively.ConclusionThe proportion of loss to follow-up in CPA patients remained high. Age (>60 years), poor financial status, low education, and non-local residence were the key factors associated with the loss to follow-up in this study. Our study reveals the need to optimize the follow-up procedures and improve the patients understanding about the benefits and limitations of follow-up to reduce the CFR

Experimental study on shear mechanical properties of improved loess based on rubber particle incorporation and EICP technology

    Get PDF
Loess is often not suitable for direct use as a roadbed or building foundation due to its collapsibility, and it needs to be improved by adding curing agents. Taking the loess in Xi’an area as the research object, the reinforcement of loess was carried out using waste tire rubber particles and Enzyme Induced Carbonate Precipitation (EICP) technology. The change of shear strength and shear strength index of improved soil with rubber content and rubber particle size under different strengthening conditions was analyzed, and the strengthening mechanism was also expounded. The results show that rubber powder can improve the shear strength of loess to a certain extent, and the combination of EICP technology can increase the strength of improved loess by nearly 50%. In addition, rubber particles have a certain inhibitory effect on EICP, and the shear strength growth rate decreases with the increase of rubber content. When the rubber particle size is 1–2 mm, the shear strength growth rate is the highest. It is suggested that when adding rubber particles or adding rubber particles combined with EICP technology is used to improve loess, the rubber particle size should be selected as 1–2 mm, and the content is about 10%. The test results can provide a scientific basis for the reduction of geologic disasters in loess areas, and at the same time can provide a non-polluting way for the disposal of waste tires

Construction of lncRNA prognostic model related to cuproptosis in esophageal carcinoma

Background: Esophageal carcinoma (ESCA) is one of the most prevalent malignant tumors in the world. The prognosis of patients has significantly improved with the development of surgery, targeted therapy and immunotherapy. But the 5-year survival rate of ESCA patients is still incredibly low. Cuproptosis is a type of mitochondrial cell death induced by copper. It is unclear how cuproptosis-related lncRNAs (CRLs) affect ESCA prognosis. Methods: In this study, we obtained the clinical data of ESCA patients, the transcriptome data from TCGA and identified CRLs by co-expression analysis, lasso regression, and cox regression analysis, to build a prognostic model. Then we validated the prognostic model using the Kaplan-Meier curve, cox regression analysis, and ROC, to create a nomogram based on risk score to forecast the prognosis of ESCA. Next, the immune escape of the CRLs was examined using the TIDE algorithm to assess its sensitivity to possible ESCA medications. Results: To predict the prognosis of ESCA patients, we created a predictive model using 6 CRLs (AC034199.1, AC125437.1, AC107032.2, CTBP1-DT, AL024508.1, and AC008610.1), validated by the Kaplan-Meier and ROC curves. The model has a higher diagnostic value compared to other clinical features. The 6 CRLs expressed high in TCGA and ESCA specimens. Enrichment analysis revealed CRLs largely contributed to the interaction between cytokines and their receptors as well as complement coagulation cascades. The immunity escape analysis demonstrated that immunotherapy had a worse effect in the low-risk group than in the high-risk group. Additionally, we screened out potential antineoplastic drugs according to the results of the immunoassay and obtained 5 drugs, including CP-466722, crizotinib, MS-275, KIN001-135, and CP-466722.Conclusion: The prognosis of patients with ESCA can be correctly predicted by the 6 CRLs chosen from this investigation. It lays the groundwork for more investigation into the ESCA mechanism and the identification of novel therapeutic targets
