An Exact Solution for Quantum Tunneling in a Dissipative System
Applying a technique developed recently [1,2] for an harmonic oscillator
coupled to a bath of harmonic oscillators, we present an exact solution for the
tunneling problem in an Ohmic dissipative system with inverted harmonic
potential. The result shows that while the dissipation tends to suppress the
tunneling, the Brownian motion tends to enhance the tunneling. Whether the
tunneling rate increases or not would then depend on the initial conditions. We
give a specific formula to calculate the tunneling probability determined by
various parameters and the initial conditions.Comment: The reference 2 is changed to Phys. Lett. from Phys. Rev. Let
The effects of optically induced non-Abelian gauge field in cold atoms
We show that degenerate dark states can be generated by coupling
-fold degenerate ground states and a common excited state with laser
fields. Interferences between light waves with different frequencies can
produce laser fields with time-dependent amplitudes, which can induce not only
U(N) non-Abelian vector fields but also the scalar ones for the adiabatic
motion of atoms in such laser fields. As an example, a time-periodic gauge
potential is produced by applying specific laser fields to a tripod system.
Some features of the Landau levels and the ground-state phase diagram of a
rotating Bose-Einstein condensate for a concrete gauge field are also
discussed.Comment: Revtex 6 pages, 2 figures, version to be published in PR
Constraints from Type IA Supernovae on {\lambda}-CDM Model in Randers-Finsler Space
Gravitational field equations in Randers-Finsler space of approximate Berwald
type are investigated. A modified Friedmann equation and a new luminosity
distance-redshift relation is proposed. A best-fit to the Type Ia supernovae
(SNe) observations yields that the in the -CDM
model is suppressed to almost zero. This fact indicates that the astronomical
observations on the Type Ia SNe can be described well without invoking any form
of dark energy. The best-fit age of the universe is given. It is in agreement
with the age of our galaxy.Comment: 14 pages, 3 figure
