Finishing of SLS-Parts for Rapid Manufacturing (RM) - A Comprehensive Approach
Plastic parts are often coated to fulfill the desired functional requirements during product life.
This may be for decorative purposes only, but also for functions such as improved tribology,
wear and humidity resistance, UV- and light stability, hygienic and biofilm resistance. Moving
SLS towards Rapid Manufacturing (RM) and making those parts competitive with parts produced
by other techniques (e.g. injection molding) implies the adoption of a new quality of part
finishing and coating strategy for SLS. This paper provides a survey of current finishing methods
used for RM-SLS parts in our institute and highlights the manually-driven process steps. The
need for, and first trials with, a more automated finishing process (e.g. vibratory grinding) are
discussed, as is the need for innovative supporting software tools.Mechanical Engineerin
Perceptions and knowledge about the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome among students in university residences
Using an anonymous questionnaire to obtain baseline data on sexual behaviour and knowledge of the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) among students in university residences, the following information was obtained: Knowledge of AIDS was found to be high, although misconceptions regarding transmission of the virus were prevalent. Mosquito bites (15%) and the donating of blood (31%) were incorrectly identified as methods of transmission of the virus. Deep kissing was recognised by only 27% of the students as a possible method of transmission while 22% and 13% of the students, respectively, failed to identify the sharing of razor blades and blood transfusions as possible means of contracting HIV infection. The students' knowledge had not greatly affected sexual behaviour. Two-thirds of the respondents had previously had sexual contact; 38% .were sexually active at the time of the study, and of these 74% had engaged in unprotected intercourse with casual partners in the previous 6 months. There was a negative attitude towards condom use and over 80% of sexually active students did not perceive themselves to be at risk of contracting AIDS. Campus Health (82%), State health services (51%), and public advertisements (60%) were preferred sources of AIDS information. Newspapers/ magazines (80%) and leaflets (69%) were identified as the preferred media. In reality, significantly fewer students obtained their information from Campus Health (15%; P < 0,05), State health services (19%; P < 0,05) and leaflets (44%; P < 0,05). It can be concluded that education programmes should be developed by credible organisations to ensure that an awareness of AIDS results in appropriate sexual behaviour
Time Evolution of Unstable Particle Decay Seen with Finite Resolution
Time evolution of the decay process of unstable particles is investigated in
field theory models. We first formulate how to renormalize the non-decay
amplitude beyond perturbation theory and then discuss short-time behavior of
very long-lived particles. Two different formalisms, one that does and one that
does not, assume existence of the asymptotic field of unstable particles are
considered. The non-decay amplitude is then calculated by introducing a finite
time resolution of measurement, which makes it possible to discuss both
renormalizable and non-renormalizable decay interaction including the nucleon
decay. In ordinary circumstances the onset of the exponential decay law starts
at times as early as at roughly the resolution time, but with an enhanced
amplitude which may be measurable. It is confirmed that the short-time formula
of the exponential decay law may be used to set limits on the
nucleon decay rate in underground experiments. On the other hand, an
exceptional example of S-wave decay of very small Q-value is found, which does

Gastrointestinal Symptoms in 2- to 5-Year-Old Children in the Study to Explore Early Development
Gastrointestinal symptoms (GIS) are commonly reported in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This multi-site study evaluated the prevalence of GIS in preschool-aged children with ASD/(n = 672), with other developmental delays (DD)/(n = 938), and children in the general population (POP)/(n = 851). After adjusting for covariates, children in the ASD group were over 3 times more likely to have parent-reported GIS than the POP group, and almost 2 times more likely than the DD group. Children with GIS from all groups had more behavioral and sleep problems. Within the ASD group, children with developmental regression had more GIS than those without; however, there were no differences in autism severity scores between children with and without GIS. These findings have implications for clinical management
Search for heavy neutrinos mixing with tau neutrinos
We report on a search for heavy neutrinos (\nus) produced in the decay
D_s\to \tau \nus at the SPS proton target followed by the decay \nudecay in
the NOMAD detector. Both decays are expected to occur if \nus is a component
of .\
From the analysis of the data collected during the 1996-1998 runs with
protons on target, a single candidate event consistent with
background expectations was found. This allows to derive an upper limit on the
mixing strength between the heavy neutrino and the tau neutrino in the \nus
mass range from 10 to 190 . Windows between the SN1987a and Big Bang
Nucleosynthesis lower limits and our result are still open for future
experimental searches. The results obtained are used to constrain an

Final NOMAD results on nu_mu->nu_tau and nu_e->nu_tau oscillations including a new search for nu_tau appearance using hadronic tau decays
Results from the nu_tau appearance search in a neutrino beam using the full
NOMAD data sample are reported. A new analysis unifies all the hadronic tau
decays, significantly improving the overall sensitivity of the experiment to
oscillations. The "blind analysis" of all topologies yields no evidence for an
oscillation signal. In the two-family oscillation scenario, this sets a 90%
C.L. allowed region in the sin^2(2theta)-Delta m^2 plane which includes
sin^2(2theta)<3.3 x 10^{-4} at large Delta m^2 and Delta m^2 < 0.7 eV^2/c^4 at
sin^2(2theta)=1. The corresponding contour in the nu_e->nu_tau oscillation
hypothesis results in sin^2(2theta)<1.5 x 10^{-2} at large Delta m^2 and Delta
m^2 < 5.9 eV^2/c^4 at sin^2(2theta)=1. We also derive limits on effective

Prediction of Neutrino Fluxes in the NOMAD Experiment
The method developed for the calculation of the flux and composition of the
West Area Neutrino Beam used by NOMAD in its search for neutrino oscillations
is described. The calculation is based on particle production rates computed
using a recent version of FLUKA and modified to take into account the cross
sections measured by the SPY and NA20 experiments. These particles are
propagated through the beam line taking into account the material and magnetic
fields they traverse. The neutrinos produced through their decays are tracked
to the NOMAD detector. The fluxes of the four neutrino flavours at NOMAD are
predicted with an uncertainty of about 8% for nu(mu) and nu(e), 10% for
antinu(mu), and 12% for antinu(e). The energy-dependent uncertainty achieved on
the R(e, mu) prediction needed for a nu(mu)->nu(e) oscillation search ranges
from 4% to 7%, whereas the overall normalization uncertainty on this ratio is

Search for the exotic resonance in the NOMAD experiment
A search for exotic Theta baryon via Theta -> proton +Ks decay mode in the
NOMAD muon neutrino DIS data is reported. The special background generation
procedure was developed. The proton identification criteria are tuned to
maximize the sensitivity to the Theta signal as a function of xF which allows
to study the Theta production mechanism. We do not observe any evidence for the
Theta state in the NOMAD data. We provide an upper limit on Theta production
rate at 90% CL as 2.13 per 1000 of neutrino interactions.Comment: Accepted to European Physics Journal
Inclusive production of and mesons in charged current interactions
The inclusive production of the meson resonances ,
and in neutrino-nucleus charged current interactions has been
studied with the NOMAD detector exposed to the wide band neutrino beam
generated by 450 GeV protons at the CERN SPS. For the first time the
meson is observed in neutrino interactions. The statistical
significance of its observation is 6 standard deviations. The presence of
in neutrino interactions is reliably established. The average
multiplicity of these three resonances is measured as a function of several
kinematic variables. The experimental results are compared to the
multiplicities obtained from a simulation based on the Lund model. In addition,
the average multiplicity of in antineutrino - nucleus

Search for nu(mu)-->nu(e) Oscillations in the NOMAD Experiment
We present the results of a search for nu(mu)-->nu(e) oscillations in the
NOMAD experiment at CERN. The experiment looked for the appearance of nu(e) in
a predominantly nu(mu) wide-band neutrino beam at the CERN SPS. No evidence for
oscillations was found. The 90% confidence limits obtained are delta m^2 < 0.4
eV^2 for maximal mixing and sin^2(2theta) < 1.4x10^{-3} for large delta m^2.
This result excludes the LSND allowed region of oscillation parameters with
