Thermal barrier coating system
A coating system which contains a bond coating and a thermal barrier coating is applied to metal surfaces such as turbine blades and provides both low thermal conductivity and improved adherence when exposed to high temperature gases or liquids. The bond coating contains NiCrAlY and the thermal barrier coating contains a reflective oxide. The reflective oxides ZrO2-Y2O3 and ZrO2-MgO have demonstrated significant utility in high temperature turbine applications
The I R I: Relating Test Performance to Instruction--A Concept
The IRI is composed of a series of graded materials, it is used to determine instructional level, and changes in reading level are recognized only when those changes affect accuracy and comprehension
The Dolch List Revisited - An Analysis of Pupil Responses Then and Now
A little more than a half century after its introduction, the Dolch List of 220 Basic Sight Words (1936) continues to be used in classrooms and cited in reading textbooks. In addition to its instructional application in both classroom and clinic (Fry, 1977), the list is also used for assessment, and published as a test (Dolch, 1942)
Imaging the garden
The goal of this thesis is to create a multi-media dance theater production. In addition to the theater performance, material is recontextualized in the Bevier Gallery as an installation. Documentation of the performance plays on a screen. Fragments of information supplied by the set design, video, animation, choreography and musical composition encourage layers of interpretations
Research Integration in Social Science Using Meta-Analysis
As a rigorous literature review meta-analysis allows researchers to look for relationships between the results of studies and the characteristics of those studies. This article examines some advantages of meta-analysis for social science such as the identification of: interactions, treatment effects, and the effect of research design as well as the problem of poor accumulation of evidence. A policies study example and a hypothetical voting study are used to highlight the value of meta-analysis to social scientists
Peripheralisation: The Missing Link in Dealing with Demographic Change?
Demographic change is an uneven spatial process in Germany. Depopulation and ageing have become pressing issues in most rural regions. In connection with low population densities and the financial difficulties of municipalities and service providers in rural regions, these demographic trends have led to a discussion about the future provision of services of general interest and – more broadly – the postulate of equal living conditions which was for a long time the basic principle of spatial development in Germany. In this paper, we argue that the peripheralisation approach is a helpful tool to better understand how interaction of out-migration, dependence, disconnection and stigmatisation shape the future of rural regions. We also discuss the impact of peripheralisation on the development and implementation of adaptation strategies. Based on the 3R-model (retrenchment, repositioning, reorganisation), we argue that adaptation strategies can reinforce (retrenchment) peripheralisation processes, but also serve as groundwork for the formulation of policies aiming at de-peripheralisation
B. Rasterzellen). In demographic terms German small towns are a diverse settlement category. There are growing and shrinking small towns. Small towns are both the source and the destination of internal and international migration. There are towns with a comparatively young population and excess births, but also aging towns with high excess deaths. The article provides an overview of the state of research on natural population development and selective migration in the context of small towns, identifying methodological challenges and research gaps. Of particular importance is the lack of independent demographic research into small towns. Also desirable is more qualitative work, comparative case studies and regular detailed countrywide analyses of population development and structure on the municipal level or on another small-scale level of analysis (e.g. grid cells)
