Infl uence of sustainable source of nutrient on growth and yield of sunfl ower (Helianthus annus L)
Sunflower is a one of the most important oilseed crop. Production of sunflower with the use of sustainable source of nutrient is cheap as compared with the application of synthetic fertilizers and its quality and soil heath improved by the application of organic chemical (OC) source of nutrient while chemical fertilizers are generally dangers for our environment and soil health. The nutrient requirement of sunflower can easily be carried by the self-made OC source of nutrient through this equation FYM + CaCO3 + H2 O + NO3 → OC (OC source of nutrient) with very low cost, so a farmer can self-made and fulfill nutrient requirement of crop and can obtain higher yield. A field experiment was carried out during 2013 at village Mir Khan Leghari near Agriculture Training Institute Sakrand, district Nawabshah (Sindh). The sunflower variety HO-1 was sown by using randomized complete block design with tree replications. Three levels of self-made OC source of nutrient viz: T1 = 200 kg/ha, T2 = 300 kg/ha, and T3 = 500 kg/ha was used. Regarding to the result maximum plant height, stem girth, number of leaves, head diameter, seed yield (140 cm, 7.60 cm, 16/plant, 15.70 cm, 1580.00 kg/ha, respectively) were recorded in T3 in which high dose (500 kg/ha) of self-made OC source of nutrient were applied. While the minimum plant height 110 cm, stem girth 3.25 cm, leaves per plant 12, head diameter 9.50 cm, seed yield 1300.40 kg/ha were recorded in T1 plot, where low dose (200 kg/ha) of self-made OC source of nutrient were applied in this plot
Role of HRM Practices in Performance of Organization and Employee Retention
This paper analyses the role of Human Resource Management practices on Organizational Performance and Employee Retention. Human Resource Management Practices play an important role in retaining an organization’s employee and also in increasing organizational performance. In this study a conceptual mode is developed and this conceptual model is supported by several researchers. There is a lot of research on HR Practices now-a-days. Though there is little research in HR Practices regarding Pakistan but now it’s emerging also in Pakistan.  Key Words: HR Practices, Employee Retention, organizational performance, Pakista

Introducing leaf color chart in agriculture of Sindh
Sindh land province of Pakistan is an oldest civilization of the world. Its major economy depends on agriculture. For better crop production, peoples of Sindh use all available resources. They are always interested in new technology from pre-history. Moen-Jo-Dro (Mount of deed, Sindh) peoples were made own instruments for seedbed preparation to harvest crops. This nation was inventory for maximization of crop yield. Remembering ancestors, currently, Sindhi farmers struggling to maximize the crop yield in context with the increasing rate of population, but they are facing a scarcity of agriculture technology due to poverty. They have no good agriculture machinery for better crop cultivation as well as soil analysis laboratories. Students of Sindh Agriculture University always had taken advanced steps to make stronger Sindhi farmer by providing them new modern technology for maximization of crop yield. Funding of this, recently, first time self-made leaf color chart (LCC) is introduced in agriculture of Sindh. Now farmers of Sindh can use LCC for rice to estimate and manage nitrogen deficiency. Deficit of nitrogen cause the nutrient stress which stop or retard plant growth and development, thus directly reduce the yield. Nitrogen deficiency is analyzed by many good methods including LCC becoming famous method because of simple to use. A simple experiment was taken in 2014 to make self LCC and use for rice, wheat, and sugarcane crops in Sindh. This research paper lighting up in detail what is LCC, its uses, and how we made and introduced in agriculture of Sindh
Inaugural Address
Dr Sarfraz Khan Qureshi, Director of Pakistan Institute of
Development Economics, Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen, It is
a great pleasure for me to be present here this morning. Over the years,
the Pakistan Society of Development Economists has made notable
contributions to the profession of Economics and Planning. It has also
helped to strengthen the evolution of scientific knowledge in
Development Economics. More importantly, it has given an institutional
shape to the exchange of ideas between economists, other social
scientists, and policy-makers. I am happy to note that a large number of
distinguished academics and policy-makers from all over the world
regularly participate in the Society’s meetings. I earnestly hope that
useful policy prescriptions will emerge from the deliberations that take
place here about the major issues in economy. Indeed, I wish to extend
my appreciation to the Society for providing a lively and effective
platform both to researchers and policy-makers
Determinants of Audit Fee in Pakistan
Audit fee studies, being a tool to assist negotiation between auditors and clients are regularly undertaken all over the world and essentially stem on the factors prevalent in the specific auditing/accounting environments. Unfortunately, Pakistan has been less explored in this regard with only two studies being conducted focusing its market. Both the studies used a single year data for analyses and were conducted in a less regulated environment than presently prevalent in Pakistan. After the establishment of SECP and regulatory changes in corporate sector, no such study has been conducted in Pakistan. Using the Simunic (1980) model, this study reveals that client’s size of business, complexity of business and international recognition and affiliation of audit firms (Big four firms) are significant determinants of audit fee in Pakistan. Results in study indicate that ignorance of risk factor by the auditors may pose serious threat to fame and reputation of audit firm along with indication of feeble legal regime in Pakistan. Keywords: Audit fee, client’s size of business, audit complexity, audit risk, big fir
Diplomacy and Democracy Avert Indo-Pak Crisis 1986-87
After a long break of almost 15 years, the world witnessed another crisis in1986-87 between two South Asian rivals but this time it was little bit different one. This crisis indicated a new dimension in Indo-Pak confrontations. The world embraced when the leaders of the two countries stated publicly that they are in a position to manufacture and use nuclear weapons. This article tries to look into 1986-87 crisis to know whether nuclear deterrence prevailed during the crisis or not. The article finds that 1986-87 crisis was having the conventional dimension and didn’t have any nuclear dimension as India and Pakistan were not in a position to manufacture nuclear weapons at the times of crisis. Though the leaders of the two countries threatened each other with the use of nuclear weapons but these were only verbal threats but in fact both India and Pakistan knew that no one of them possessed nuclear weapons during the crisis. The article further finds that it was diplomacy and democracy which played a very important role in reducing the tension and averting crisis between India and Pakistan
Nuclear Deterrence: A complete failure at Kargil
There is a perception since long that the nuclear weapon states cannot opt for war against each other. The proponents of nuclear deterrence quote the example of the United States and Soviet Union to strengthen their view point that the two major world powers didn’t opt for direct confrontation during the cold war era. This concept failed to get its legitimacy after a limited war between the two South Asian nuclear weapon states in 1999. Kargil war directly challenged the proliferation optimists and forced them to change their perceptions on the nuclear deterrence theory. This article looks at the role of nuclear deterrence in averting war between India and Pakistan at Kargil. It finds that nuclear deterrence failed to avert Kargil war and the nuclearization of South Asia further contributed in the worsening of the crisis due to different understandings of the nuclear deterrence theory on the two sides. It also finds that it was international community’s pressure which forced the two states to bring their forces to normal positions
