Effects of IT-Based Connectivity on Firms\u27 Innovation Capability and Performance

Firms have been investing in portal technologies to enhance employee operations, internal communication, supplier interactions, and customer service. However, the benefits of this expensive enterprise technology have yet to be quantified and the manner of their impact on organizations yet to be understood. Drawing upon social capital theory and the IT investments literature, we propose that firms\u27 investments in portal features that support connectivity internally, and with customers and suppliers enables the firms to develop their innovation capability, which, in turn, enhances firm performance. We test this model using data collected from announcements of firms\u27 portal investments

Medication adherence plays a major role in the control and management of chronic disease states such as diabetes and hypertension. Methods to improve medication adherence through medication education or increasing social support alone have not always shown to improve adherence rates, but have found to be contributing factors.1-3 As technology advances, mHealth has been increasingly explored as an avenue to combine efforts in communication, education, and support to patients to improve medication adherence and disease state control. This paper will begin with a review of the literature on mHealth programs targeted on improving medication education and adherence of diabetes and hypertension patients. The literature review was conducted on PubMed and identified seven studies for evaluation. Studies were evaluated for the mHealth program, implementation, and program outcomes. Following the literature review, this paper describes a program plan for diabetes and hypertension medication adherence program (INSTEP). INSTEP is a mHealth based program that will combines the use of medication education, improved medication communication strategies, and social support, to advance medication adherence and control of diabetes and hypertension. INSTEP will partner with the South African Department of Health, in addition to other key stakeholders, and launch an initial pilot program in Umlazi township primary health clinics. Program evaluation will be both quantitative and qualitative and both the training program for the primary health care clinics and patient program will be evaluation. Implementation evaluations and outcome evaluations will aim to provide data for quality improvement opportunities as the program continues to run.Master of Science in Public Healt

Is the Sgr dSph a dark matter dominated system?

We study the evolution of possible progenitors of Sgr dSph}using several numerical N-body simulations of different dwarf spheroidal galaxies both with and without dark matter, as they orbit the Milky Way. The barionic and dark components of the dwarfs were made obeying a Plummer and NFW potentials of one million particles respectively. The Milky Way was modeled like a tree-component rigid potential and the simulations were performed using a modified Gadget-2 code. We found that none of the simulated galaxies without dark matter reproduced the physical properties observed in Sgr dSph, suggesting that, at the beginning of its evolution, Sgr dSph might have been immersed in a dark matter halo. The simulations of progenitors immersed in dark matter halos suggest that Sgr dSph at its beginning might have been an extended system, i.e. its Plummer radius could have had a value approximated to 1.2 kpc or higher; furthermore, this galaxy could have been immersed in a dark halo with a mass higher than 10^8 solar masses. These results are important for the construction of a model of the formation of Sgr dSph.Comment: 13 pages, 6 figures, New Astronomy - accepte

Introduction to THRIVE Elaborated: Since we published the THRIVE framework a year ago in November 2014 it has generated a lot of interest. We are delighted by this. We want to take this opportunity to clarify and elaborate as relevant, including addressing areas of potential confusion, as well as updating the document in light of our emerging thinking and elaboration of elements of the framework. It is important to note that nothing relating to the central ideas of the framework has been changed
