What Opportunities from the âOne Belt, One Roadâ Initiative for Manufacturing? The Case of Hong Kong\u27s Textiles and Clothing Sectors
Past studies have investigated the trade relationship between countries by analysing economic and political related factors using gravity models. Numerous factors have been empirically tested in the literature which are proposed to be important contributors in determining trade flow. This study addresses the research questions, what are the key factors and dimensions that influence bilateral trade. It focuses on identifying the key factors and dimensions for the expansion of Textile and Clothing (T&C) manufacturing by Chinese manufacturers to other countries, in light of Chinaâs recent One Belt One Road (OBOR) initiative. This paper will critically review bilateral trade and international business literature that uses the gravity model from 1960 to 2017 to discuss factors previously investigated by researchers. The review reflects on the factors commonly explored in the literature, but also highlights the absence of sustainability factors given the importance of sustainability and CSR issues in todayâs global T&C industry. This study will contribute to the wider literature of international business and trade, particularly for the expansion of Chinese T&C manufacturing to other countries which are promoted through Chinaâs OBOR initiative
Non-magnetic semiconductor spin transistor
We propose a spin transistor using only non-magnetic materials that exploits
the characteristics of bulk inversion asymmetry (BIA) in (110) symmetric
quantum wells. We show that extremely large spin splittings due to BIA are
possible in (110) InAs/GaSb/AlSb heterostructures, which together with the
enhanced spin decay times in (110) quantum wells demonstrates the potential for
exploitation of BIA effects in semiconductor spintronics devices. Spin
injection and detection is achieved using spin-dependent resonant interband
tunneling and spin transistor action is realized through control of the
electron spin lifetime in an InAs lateral transport channel using an applied
electric field (Rashba effect). This device may also be used as a spin valve,
or a magnetic field sensor. The electronic structure and spin relaxation times
for the spin transistor proposed here are calculated using a nonperturbative

Discontinuous Galerkin method for the spherically reduced BSSN system with second-order operators
We present a high-order accurate discontinuous Galerkin method for evolving
the spherically-reduced Baumgarte-Shapiro-Shibata-Nakamura (BSSN) system
expressed in terms of second-order spatial operators. Our multi-domain method
achieves global spectral accuracy and long-time stability on short
computational domains. We discuss in detail both our scheme for the BSSN system
and its implementation. After a theoretical and computational verification of
the proposed scheme, we conclude with a brief discussion of issues likely to

Simulation of Lattice Polymers with Multi-Self-Overlap Ensemble
A novel family of dynamical Monte Carlo algorithms for lattice polymers is
proposed. Our central idea is to simulate an extended ensemble in which the
self-avoiding condition is systematically weakened. The degree of the
self-overlap is controlled in a similar manner as the multicanonical ensemble.
As a consequence, the ensemble --the multi-self-overlap ensemble-- contains
adequate portions of self-overlapping conformations as well as higher energy
ones. It is shown that the multi-self-overlap ensemble algorithm reproduce
correctly the canonical averages at finite temperatures of the HP model of
lattice proteins. Moreover, it outperforms massively a standard multicanonical
algorithm for a difficult example of a polymer with 8-stickers. Alternative

Lagrangian Floer superpotentials and crepant resolutions for toric orbifolds
We investigate the relationship between the Lagrangian Floer superpotentials
for a toric orbifold and its toric crepant resolutions. More specifically, we
study an open string version of the crepant resolution conjecture (CRC) which
states that the Lagrangian Floer superpotential of a Gorenstein toric orbifold
and that of its toric crepant resolution coincide after
analytic continuation of quantum parameters and a change of variables. Relating
this conjecture with the closed CRC, we find that the change of variable
formula which appears in closed CRC can be explained by relations between open
(orbifold) Gromov-Witten invariants. We also discover a geometric explanation
(in terms of virtual counting of stable orbi-discs) for the specialization of
quantum parameters to roots of unity which appears in Y. Ruan's original CRC
["The cohomology ring of crepant resolutions of orbifolds", Gromov-Witten
theory of spin curves and orbifolds, 117-126, Contemp. Math., 403, Amer. Math.
Soc., Providence, RI, 2006]. We prove the open CRC for the weighted projective
spaces using an equality between open
and closed orbifold Gromov-Witten invariants. Along the way, we also prove an

A time-domain fourth-order-convergent numerical algorithm to integrate black hole perturbations in the extreme-mass-ratio limit
We obtain a fourth order accurate numerical algorithm to integrate the
Zerilli and Regge-Wheeler wave equations, describing perturbations of
nonrotating black holes, with source terms due to an orbiting particle. Those
source terms contain the Dirac's delta and its first derivative. We also
re-derive the source of the Zerilli and Regge-Wheeler equations for more
convenient definitions of the waveforms, that allow direct metric
reconstruction (in the Regge-Wheeler gauge).Comment: 30 pages, 12 figure
Thermodynamics of aggregation of two proteins
We investigate aggregation mechanism of two proteins in a thermodynamically
unambiguous manner by considering the finite size effect of free energy
landscape of HP lattice protein model. Multi-Self-Overlap-Ensemble Monte Carlo
method is used for numerical calculations. We find that a dimer can be formed
spontaneously as a thermodynamically stable state when the system is small
enough. It implies the possibility that the aggregation of proteins in a cell
is triggered when they are confined in a small region by, for example, being
surrounded by other macromolecules.We also find that the dimer exhibits a

Spin relaxation in (110) and (001) InAs/GaSb superlattices
We report an enhancement of the electron spin relaxation time (T1) in a (110)
InAs/GaSb superlattice by more than an order of magnitude (25 times) relative
to the corresponding (001) structure. The spin dynamics were measured using
polarization sensitive pump probe techniques and a mid-infrared, subpicosecond
PPLN OPO. Longer T1 times in (110) superlattices are attributed to the
suppression of the native interface asymmetry and bulk inversion asymmetry
contributions to the precessional D'yakonov Perel spin relaxation process.
Calculations using a nonperturbative 14-band nanostructure model give good
agreement with experiment and indicate that possible structural inversion
asymmetry contributions to T1 associated with compositional mixing at the
superlattice interfaces may limit the observed spin lifetime in (110)
superlattices. Our findings have implications for potential spintronics
applications using InAs/GaSb heterostructures.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure
