    Knowledge management on the status of mango industry: In the Province of Guimaras, Philippines

    Knowledge Management study on the Status of Mango Industry in the Province of Guimaras was conducted to(1)evaluate the economic status of the respondents, (2)analyze the cost and return of producing mango, (3) enumerate the production and marketing practices used and (4)solve the problems met by mango producers.The results of this study will guide the mango growers what knowledge management skills and inputs to be used in producing high quality mango fruits with lower cost and highest average return. Based on the result of this study growers harvested their mangoes when it is already matured using sandok , marketed in wholesale basis in Guimaras and in the nearby island and as well as outside the country.Relatives and friends were the source of financial assistance while their source of information was self- experience and the technician of Department of Agriculture.Problems encountered were high cost of farm inputs and equipment, pest and diseases, fluctuation of prices, distance from the market, source financial of assistance as well as thieves.Income analysis showed that growers who sprayed their own trees had higher income, compared to those mango sharecroppers, part owners and those who depended on contract arrangement.Therefore out of the different management techniques in mango production, growers can already select the best way producing quality mangoes profitably for commercial purposes

    The study was focused on management of flowering plants, more specifically on the different chrysanthemum varieties growth performance.Result of the study revealed that through knowledge management techniques and skills in chrysanthemum production, the survival rate of plant and plant height on the different varieties of chrysanthemum revealed significant result.It is also noted that different varieties of chrysanthemum used in the study were significantly different in terms of diameters of flowers and average number of flowers produced.It is further observed that chrysanthemum performed well in the different places with the same climatic condition

    Knowledge management on the use of different flower inducers on the growth of flowering plants: Hydrangea (Hydrangea Macrophylla)

    The study entitled “Knowledge Management on the Use of Different Flower Inducers on the Growth of Flowering Plants Hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla)” was conducted to find out which among the flower inducers used will promote higher number of shoots of Hydrangea macrophylla; to determine its effects on the height and quality of blooms of Hydrangea.The four flower inducers used in the study which correspond also to the four treatments were: A-Byfolan, B-Crop giant C- Turton, and D-Siam.Treatment E was the control treatment.Based on the results of the study, different flower inducers significantly increase the final height wherein plants sprayed with Crop giant significantly were the tallest while the untreated plants were significantly the shortest. Furthermore, the different flower inducers used in the study have no significant influence on the average number of shoots per plant, average number of flowers and the biggest full bloom flowers

    Knowledge management in poultry industry: A case study of chicken contract growing in the Province of Iloilo, Philippines

    The research study entitled ”Status Of Contract Growing of Chicken in the Province of Iloilo was conducted to characterize the chicken growers and their farms, determine farm profitability, and identify the problems that beset the industry. Data were gathered from January to March 2003. The study revealed that contract chicken growers in Iloilo were generally males, married and were in their middle age (50 years). Majority (83.3%) had farming as their main occupation.To some growers, contract growing was only their secondary source of income. On the average, the farmers have been in the contract growing business for 8.6 years. In terms of number of partnership with growers Vitarich predominated in the place.Other major companies were, Swift, B-Meg and BAVI. Growers had 3.5 poultry houses on the average but the number was as low as 3 and as high as 10 units.They started with an average of 6,4000 birds the present stock of growers is as low as 6,000 and as high as 85,000 birds. The average number of production cycle per year was 7.5 cycles and it ranged from 5 to 9 cycles per year. Adlibitum feeding was commonly practiced during the brooding stages but the proportion following the practice was lower during the rearing and finishing stages.All growers used antibiotics and disinfectants, and also vaccinated their birds. Broilers were marketed at an average age of age of 30.4 days. Others disposed their bird as early as 29 days to as late as 45 days.Target weight averaged 1.5 kg but could be as low as 1.3kg and as high as 1.6 kilograms. Generally, birds were disposed live.No severe problems beset the industry. As a whole contract growing of chicken is as highly profitable agribusiness venture. Average income per farmer was P140, 454.49 and P 7.65 on a bird basis
