Spatial patterns of mango malformation in irrigated areas of the brazilian semi-arid.

There are over 18.000 ha of irrigated mango in the São Francisco River Valley, and 90% of the fruit produced in this semi-arid region is exported to the european and american markets. With the expansion of the mango areas in the last decade, the intensity of malformation has been increasing, and there are many unresolved questions on the dynamics of the disease in the region, such as the role of the mango bud mite (Aceria mangiferae) or mechanical transmission in the dissemination of the disease. Avaliação comparativa de modelos de equações diferenciais com e sem delay para estudo do HLB em citros.

O objetivo deste trabalho é apresentar um modelo matemático compartimental determinístico para representar a dinâmica da doença HLB em plantações de citros, considerando a existência de período de delay (retardo) na fase de incubação da doença na planta. Esse modelo é baseado no trabalho de Braga et al (2011), que analisa a dinâmica da infecção sem considerar a existência de delay na fase citada. Uma comparação entre os resultados obtidos pelos dois modelos é realizada.CIIC 2012. No 12602

SIGMAR1 gene mutation causing Distal Hereditary Motor Neuropathy in a Portuguese family

SIGMAR1 gene encodes a non-opioid endoplasmic reticulum (ER) protein which is involved in a large diversity of cell functions and is expressed ubiquitously in both central and peripheral nervous systems. Alterations of its normal function may contribute to two different phenotypes: juvenile amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS 16) and distal hereditary motor neuropathies (dHMN). We present the case of a female patient, of 37-years-old, with distal muscle weakness and atrophy beginning in childhood and slowly progressive in the first two decades of life. Neurological examination revealed a symmetrical severe muscle wasting and weakness in distal lower and upper limbs, with claw hands, footdrop with equinovarus deformity and hammer toes, generalized areflexia and normal sensory examination. The electrodiagnostic study revealed a pure chronic motor peripheral nerve involvement without signs of demyelination. Biomarkers and Imaging Findings of Anderson-Fabry Disease-What We Know Now

Anderson-Fabry disease (AFD) is an X-linked lysosomal storage disorder, caused by deficiency or absence of the alpha-galactosidase A activity, with a consequent glycosphingolipid accumulation. Biomarkers and imaging findings may be useful for diagnosis, identification of an organ involvement, therapy monitoring and prognosis. The aim of this article is to review the current available literature on biomarkers and imaging findings of AFD patients. An extensive bibliographic review from PubMed, Medline and Clinical Key databases was performed by a group of experts from nephrology, neurology, genetics, cardiology and internal medicine, aiming for consensus. Lyso-GB3 is a valuable biomarker to establish the diagnosis. Proteinuria and creatinine are the most valuable to detect renal damage. Troponin I and high-sensitivity assays for cardiac troponin T can identify patients with cardiac lesions, but new techniques of cardiac imaging are essential to detect incipient damage. Specific cerebrovascular imaging findings are present in AFD patients. Techniques as metabolomics and proteomics have been developed in order to find an AFD fingerprint. Lyso-GB3 is important for evaluating the pathogenic mutations and monitoring the response to treatment. Many biomarkers can detect renal, cardiac and cerebrovascular involvement, but none of these have proved to be important to monitoring the response to treatment. Avaliação da distribuição espacial e temporal da Phytophthora spp. em mamoeiro.

A cultura do mamão é de grande relevância econômica para o Brasil. A região Nordeste ocupou o 1º lugar no ranking nacional em 2008 com 62,3 % da oferta de mamão (1.179,101 toneladas em área colhida de 23.499 hectares. No mundo, a Ásia (44,2 %), América do Sul (27,3 %) e África (16,0 %) são os principais responsáveis pela produção mundial. Na última década, o cultivo mundial de mamão registrou acréscimo, tanto na produção, quanto na área colhida. A Índia destacou-se como primeiro produtor com 29,5 % da oferta mundial, seguido pelo Brasil (20,9 %), Nigéria (8,4 %) Indonésia (7,2 %). Para aumentar a produção e incrementar as exportações, a cultura necessita superar uma série de problemas, especialmente os de natureza fitossanitária. Das doenças que incidem no mamoeiro, destaca-se a podridão das raízes e dos frutos, causada por Phytophythora spp. O fator mais importante no desenvolvimento da doença é a habilidade do patógeno em produzir esporângios e zoósporos em abundância sobre tecidos infectados e na presença de água. No Brasil, não há resultados conclusivos a respeito da interação patógeno/hospedeiro, principalmente no que diz respeito à sua distribuição espacial e temporal que é o objetivo do presente trabalho.PDF. 052
