Intermediary LEO propagation including higher order zonal harmonics
Two new intermediary orbits of the artificial satellite problem are proposed.
The analytical solutions include higher order effects of the Geopotential, and
are obtained by means of a torsion transformation applied to the
quasi-Keplerian system resulting after the elimination of the parallax
simplification, for the first intermediary, and after the elimination of the
parallax and perigee simplifications, for the second one. The new
intermediaries perform notably well for low earth orbits propagation, are free
from special functions, and result advantageous, both in accuracy and
efficiency, when compared to the standard Cowell integration of the J2 problem,
thus providing appealing alternatives for onboard, short-term, orbit
propagation under limited computational resources.Comment: Celestial Mechanics and Dynamical Astronomy: Accepted September 25,

General Purpose Textual Sentiment Analysis and Emotion Detection Tools
Textual sentiment analysis and emotion detection consists in retrieving the
sentiment or emotion carried by a text or document. This task can be useful in
many domains: opinion mining, prediction, feedbacks, etc. However, building a
general purpose tool for doing sentiment analysis and emotion detection raises
a number of issues, theoretical issues like the dependence to the domain or to
the language but also pratical issues like the emotion representation for
interoperability. In this paper we present our sentiment/emotion analysis
tools, the way we propose to circumvent the di culties and the applications
they are used for.Comment: Workshop on Emotion and Computing (2013
HEOSAT: A mean elements orbit propagator program for Highly Elliptical Orbits
The algorithms used in the construction of a semi-analytical propagator for
the long-term propagation of Highly Elliptical Orbits (HEO) are described. The
software propagates mean elements and include the main gravitational and
non-gravitational effects that may affect common HEO orbits, as, for instance,
geostationary transfer orbits or Molniya orbits. Comparisons with numerical
integration show that it provides good results even in extreme orbital
configurations, as the case of SymbolX.Comment: 18 pages, 5 figure
Medication Assisted Treatment for Opioid Use Disorder in the Primary Care Setting in Philadelphia: A Retrospective Review
Introduction:
The opioid crisis continues to be a growing public health concern across the United States. Americans struggling with Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) can seek different resources to help curtail their addiction. These include abstinence -based programs such as Narcotics Anonymous and Specialty treatment facilities including methadone and suboxone clinics. It has been shown that increased availability of drugs to treat opioid use addiction, such as methadone and buprenorphine, is linked to a lower likelihood of relapse and fatal overdoses. Therefore, medication assisted treatment (MAT) is a valuable asset because it combines behavioral therapy and medications to treat opioid use disorder. Despite the potential benefit of primary care MATs, there are factors leading to low access and utilization of these programs. They include limited number of trained prescribers, policy barriers such as insurance coverage, and both and provider stigma associated with MAT. Demographics from the MAT program of Project HOME Health Services of Philadelphia were reviewed for this project.
Objective:
To conduct a retrospective review of MAT program participant demographics at Project HOME Health Services in North Philadelphia. The goal is to identify the key demographics of patients enrolled in the program from July 2017- July 2018.
Methods:
A review of an Electronic Medical Record database from a population of 108 patients enrolled in the MAT program at Project HOME Health Services from July 2017-2018. The planned analysis is demographic descriptive statistics.
Results:
The age range of patients was 27-71. Of the 108 patients, 39 were considered active participants in the program (21 male, 18 female). Twenty-five percent of the patient population reported their homeless status as shelter, street, transitional, supportive housing, or formerly homeless. Sixty-nine patients received a hepatitis C virus antibody test, with 26 reporting results suggesting of a possible Hepatitis C, 8 positive, and 20 with negative testing. In the total population, there were 39% reported hypertension, 54% reported depression, and 94% reported current tobacco use.
Conclusion:
The reported findings describe the demographics of the MAT participants of Project Home of Philadelphia. This data will be utilized in conjunction with other research that assesses adherence to MAT programs and quality of life. Future areas for research involve statistical comparisons to determine factors leading to patient retention in the program. Another project would be to review the patients’ urine toxicology screens for additional information, including the number of months in the program until only the prescribed drugs are in the urine and how many drug screens were positive for fentanyl. Finally, further research may determine specific additional primary care needs of the participants
Acting as a molecular tailor : dye structural modifications for improved sensitivity towards lysophosphatidic acids sensing
Lysophosphatidic acids (LPA) are key biomarkers for several physiological processes, the monitoring of which can provide insights into the host’s health. Common lab-based techniques for their detection are cumbersome, expensive and necessitate specialized personnel to operate. LPA-sensitive fluorescent probes have been described, albeit for non-aqueous conditions, which impedes their use in biological matrices. In this paper, we explore in detail the influence of structure on the extent of aggregation-induced fluorescence quenching using specially synthesized styrylpyridinium dyes bearing structural adaptations to bestow them enhanced affinity towards LPA in aqueous media. Spectroscopic investigations supported by time-resolved fluorimetry revealed the contribution of excimer formation to the fluorescence quenching mechanism displayed by the fluorescent probes. Experimental observations of the influence of structure on detection sensitivity were supported by DFT calculations
Robust sliding mode‐based extremum‐seeking controller for reaction systems via uncertainty estimation approach
"This paper deals with the design of a robust sliding mode‐based extremum‐seeking controller aimed at the online optimization of a class of uncertain reaction systems. The design methodology is based on an input–output linearizing method with variable‐structure feedback, such that the closed‐loop system converges to a neighborhood of the optimal set point with sliding mode motion. In contrast with previous extremum‐seeking control algorithms, the control scheme includes a dynamic modelling‐error estimator to compensate for unknown terms related with model uncertainties and unmeasured disturbances. The proposed online optimization scheme does not make use of a dither signal or a gradient‐based optimization algorithm. Practical stabilizability for the closed‐loop system around to the unknown optimal set point is analyzed. Numerical experiments for two nonlinear processes illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed robust control scheme.

On-line estimation of VFA concentration in anaerobic digestion via methane outflow rate measurements
"This paper deals with the design of a robust nonlinear observer as a software sensor to achieve the on-line estimation of the concentration of Volatile Fatty Acids (VFA) in a class of continuous anaerobic digesters (AD). Taking into account the limited availability of on-line sensors for AD process, in this contribution is assumed that only the methane outflow rate is available for on-line measurement. The estimation method is based on a modified version for a two-dimensional mathematical model of AD process. From the differential algebraic observability approach it is shown that the VFA concentration is detectable from the methane outflow rate measurements. The observer convergence is analyzed by using Lyapunov stability techniques. Numerical simulations illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed estimation method for a four-dimensional AD model with uncertainties associated with unmodeled dynamics and disturbances in the inflow composition.

Validation of an Impulse Measurement Technique with High Temporal and Spatial Resolutions
AbstractWe present a new experimental technique to measure the force-time history of high-velocity impacts and high pressure blast waves. The technique is based on the classic Hopkinson-type strain bar, coupled with an interferometric velocimeter instead of strain gauges. The major benefits of this setup are its accuracy, temporal resolution, and its imperviousness to electromagnetic interferences. We explain the keys concepts behind the technique and describe the experimental setup. We present experimental and numerical data as proof-of-concept and discuss preliminary studies on the effect of plastic deformation of the bar and its consequences on the interpretation of the measured impulse-history
