Der Eisvogel – Vogel des Jahres 2009 – im Kreis Höxter

Im Kreis Höxter stellt sich die Situation entgegen vielen anderen Landesteilen NRWs recht günstig dar. Grund ist der relativ geringe Verbauungsgrad der größeren Fließgewässer wie Nethe, Aa, Emmer oder Beber. Hinzu kommt, dass sich v. a. in den Auen von Nethe, Aa und Emmer mächtige Lehmablagerungen finden, in die sich die Gewässer tief eingeschnitten haben. Überall dort, wo die Gewässer die Ufer unterspülen können, bilden sich Steilufer aus, die sich ideal für die Anlage der Brutröhren eignen. Weiterhin finden sich in den Fließgewässern hinreichend Kleinfische (u. a. Elritzen), die vom Eisvogel bevorzugt aufgenommen werden. Für die Bevölkerung des Kreises ist es somit nicht allzu schwer, die fliegenden Juwelen an den heimischen Gewässern zu beobachten. Aber nicht nur an den Fließgewässern ist der Eisvogel anzutreffen. Er sucht auch gerne die zahlreichen Baggerseen im Wesertal zur Nahrungssuche auf. Selbst die Badeseen zwischen Höxter und Godelheim werden von ihm regelmäßig besucht. Dass der Eisvogel ausgerechnet im Jahr 2009, in dem er zum Vogel des Jahres auserwählt wurde, nur selten anzutreffen war, ist auf den sehr harten Winter 2008/2009 zurückzuführen, den zahlreiche Vögel nicht überlebt haben

Enabling Process Support for Advanced Applications with the AristaFlow BPM Suite

A process-aware information system (PAIS) will be not accepted by end users if its software clients do not support their native workflows or are too complex for them. When implementing business processes based on process management technology important issues are, therefore, how end-users can participate in the execution of the processes and how this can be accomplished as intuitively as possible. This becomes extremely important if high flexibility demands need to be fullled during process execution, while PAIS robustness and error safety need to be assured. In this software demonstration we show how the AristaFlow BPM Suite - an adaptive process management system developed by us - was applied to challenging applications in domains like healthcare, logistics, disaster management, and software development. The implementation of adaptive software clients in these different applications particularly proves the benefits provided by an open application programming interface (API) as offered by AristaFlow

From ADEPT to AristaFlow BPM Suite: A Research Vision has become Reality

During the last decade we have developed the ADEPT next generation process management technology. Its features and its different prototype versions attracted a number of companies. However, an enterprise cannot base the implementation of its process-aware information system (PAIS) on an experimental prototype, especially if maintenance and further development are not assured. At the beginning of 2008, therefore, we founded a spin-off as joint venture with industrial partners to transfer ADEPT into an industrial-strength product version called AristaFlow BPM Suite, and to provide maintenance support for it. The product version is now available for academic and industrial use

Enabling Poka-Yoke Workflows with the AristaFlow BPM Suite

This tool presentation gives insights into the AristaFlow BPM Suite - a next generation process management technology that has originated from our research activities in the ADEPT project. We show how AristaFlow ensures ease of use for process implementers, application developers, and end users. Our overall vision is to realize robust and flexible process support without encountering bad surprises during runtime. We denote such error-safe process executions as Poka-Yoke Workflows
