    Study on the growth parameters of Capoeta trutta (Heckel, 1843) in Shour River, Iran

    In this study growth characteristics of 815 tuwini (Capoeta trutta) in Shour River were investigated during July 2010 through June 2011. The population was composed of 62.94% females and 32.02% males. Sex ratio was 1: 1.96, with significant differences observed at 1:1 (x^2= 150.6; df= 1; p<0.05). The age distribution of this population ranged from <1 to 6 years. The distribution of length and weight was between 95 and 300 mm. The average length, except in <1 year olds, was statistically significant between sexes and average weight in all age groups was statistically significant between sexes (p<0.05). Weight-length relationship was determined as W=0.0115L^2.9475 (R=0.91) in males and W=0.0096L^3.0025 (R= 0.88) in females. Von-Bertalanffy growth equation was Lt= 24.5(1-e^-0.333(t+2.54)) for males and Lt= 36.4 (1- e^-0.129(t+4.02)) for females. Growth performance index was also estimated as Φ=2.301 in males and Φ=2.223 in females

    An assessment the effect of Fructo-oligosaccharide on growth performance, survival and hematological factors in sturgeon juvenile (Acipenser sttellatus)

    The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of Fructo-oligosaccharide (FOS) on growth and survival performances of sturgeon juvenile fish (Acipenser stellatus). 90 sturgeon fry fishes (average weight 30.16±0/14 gram) has been brought from Sturgeon International, Research Institute and stored in fiberglass tanks using randomize design with 3 treatments each with 3 replicates in relative constant physico-chemical water parameters(P>0.05) then fed with basal adaptive food for two weeks. Fry fed 11 weeks with diets containing 0% (Basal food), 1% and 2% oligofructose (Raftilose p95, Sigma Co.) added to the basal food. The results revealed that 1% pribiotic compare to other treatments caused increasing weight gain, specific growth rate, feed conversion, feed efficiency, protein efficiency ratio and liver indices significantly (p 0.05). At the end of experiment, after bleeding from sample fries, the hematological characters showed that there are no any differences between hemoglobin, WBC and RBC numbers, hematocrit, MCV, MCH and MCHC between treatments(P>0.05) although the number of WBC in 1% and numbers of neutrophils in 1 and 2% prebiotic had differences with zero% significantly (P< 0.05). Based on these results good influence on the improving growth and feeding performances by oligofroctose as prebiotic was proved in Acipenser stellatus fries and 1% level was the best

    Study of process and quality assessment on hot smoked fish kilka production, determining its shelf life in vacuum and modified atmosphere and conventional packaging

    In this study shelflife of whole hot smocked common kilka (Clupeonella cultriventris) fish packed in usual, vacuum and MAP packages and stored 6 weeks at refrigerator and or frozen temperatures was studied. Samples were analysed for TVBN, PV, pH, TBA, and total count, coliforms, clostridia, psychrophile, mold and sensory attributes weekly and monthly respectively. The ratio of Co2, N2 and O2 in the MAP package was 5: 55: 40%. Results indicated that the mixture gases could decline microbial growth and chemical changes during storage. Microbial and chemical changes in control samples were greater than that found for other samples. No significant microbial and chemical changes was observed in frozen samples during 6 weeks storage except for PV . Samples had the same sensory attributes just after production but were changed during storage significantly. Shelflife of samples packed in usual and MAP packages and stored at referigeratore was 21 and 35 days respectively; while it was 3 and 5 months for frozen samples packed in usual and vacuum packages. The conclusion is that packing hot smocked Kilka fish in vacuum and MAP packages can increase shelflife and decrease economical loss due to fish spoilage
