    Kemahiran pengurusan stres dalam kecerdasan emosi dan hubungannya dengan kepuasan hidup remaja

    Peringkat remaja adalah mencabar dan memberi tekanan. Kemahiran pengurusan tekanan bagi golongan ini adalah penting untuk mencapai kepuasan hidup yang berkualiti tinggi. Objektif utama kajian ini adalah untuk menilai perkaitan antara kemahiran pengurusan tekanan dengan kepuasan hidup dalam kalangan pelajar sekolah menengah. Selain itu, kajian ini juga mengkaji perbezaan kemahiran pengurusan tekanan dan kepuasan hidup mengikut jantina. Kajian tinjauan ini melibatkan 1,067 responden yang terdiri daripada pelajar tingkatan satu hingga enam (berumur 13 hingga 18 tahun) di sekitar Kota Kinabalu dan Kudat, Sabah. Instrumen kajian yang digunakan dalam kajian ini ialah Emotional Quotient Inventory Youth Version (EQ-i: YV) dan Cantril's Vertical Visual-Analog Scale Ladder of Life Satisfaction yang diterjemahkan ke dalam bahasa Melayu. Data dianalisis menggunakan ujian korelasi dan ujian-t sampel bebas. Keputusan menunjukkan terdapat korelasi positif antara kemahiran pengurusan tekanan dengan kepuasan hidup dalam kalangan pelajar sekolah menengah. Sementara itu, keputusan analisis ujian-t sampel bebas menunjukkan terdapat perbezaan dalam pengurusan tekanan dan kepuasan hidup mengikut jantina. Keputusan menunjukkan bahawa kemahiran pengurusan tekanan adalah sangat penting kerana ia berkait secara langsung dengan kepuasan hidup, terutamanya untuk remaja atau generasi Z

    Perkembangan kecerdasan emosi terbentuk hasil daripada pelbagai aspek dan salah satunya melalui sosial yang wujud dalam keluarga. Kajian ini bertujuan meneliti kesan penerimaan gaya keibubapaan terhadap perkembangan kecerdasan emosi remaja. Selain itu, kajian ini turut mengkaji perbezaan perkembangan kecerdasan emosi mengikut tempat tinggal dan jantina. Metodologi kajian yang digunakan adalah kaedah tinjauan dengan menggunakan soal selidik ke atas 255 orang pelajar sekolah menengah yang berusia 15 hingga 17 tahun. Satu set soal selidik digunakan dalam kajian ini yang terdiri daripada Parental Authority Questionnaire (PAQ) untuk mengukur gaya keibubapaan dan The Assessing Emotions Scale (AES) untuk mengukur kecerdasan emosi dalam kalangan remaja. Data dianalisis dengan perisian IBM Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) versi 22 dengan menggunakan ujian regresi pelbagai dan ujian-t sampel bebas untuk mengkaji hipotesis yang telah dibina. Hasil keputusan menunjukkan penerimaan gaya keibubapaan autoritatif dan autoritarian secara signifikan memberi kesan terhadap perkembangan kecerdasan emosi remaja. Sebaliknya, gaya keibubapaan permisif pula tidak menyumbang kepada perkembangan kecerdasan emosi remaja. Selain itu, terdapat perbezaan perkembangan kecerdasan emosi mengikut tempat tinggal dan jantina. Implikasinya, pemilihan gaya keibubapaan yang bersesuaian amat penting kerana akan menyumbang kepada perkembangan kecerdasan emosi remaja dan seterusnya akan membentuk personaliti dan tingkah laku mereka

    Malaysia merupakan sebuah negara berplurariti tinggi yang terkenal dengan keunikan budaya dan kepelbagaian etnik khususnya di Sabah dan Sarawak. Kemajmukan negara ini telah lama wujud dan kini sifat pluralitinya semakin berkembang setelah negara ini memasuki era pasca-moden. Disebabkan wujudnya kepelbagaian identiti bangsa dalam masyarakat Malaysia, maka semangat muhibah, hormat-menghormati, bekerjasama, bertoleransi dan pemahaman identiti bangsa sesuatu kelompok masyarakat terutamanya antara kelompok majoriti dan minoriti amat penting. Kajian ini dijalankan untuk bertujuan mengupas pemahaman konsep stereotaip, prejudis dan diskriminasi dalam kalangan etnik utama (Kadazandusun, Bajau, Cina dan Murut) di Sabah dengan mengkaji bagaimanakah kumpulan etnik tertentu mempersepsikan etnik mereka sendiri dan persepsi etnik ini terhadap kumpulan etnik lain.     This study aimed to test the validity and reliability of the Inventory of Malaysian Multi Ethnic Stereotypes (ISMEM) instrument developed by the researchers. The qualitative phase was using in-depth interviews and focus group discussions. The employment of qualitative method was to explore the concept of stereotypes among the ethnic groups. Quantitative phase involves the formation of items by themed and categorised the items that were built from the qualitative phase. A total of 1,000 university students from various ethnic groups in Malaysia were involved in the quantitative phase. Exploratory factor analysis on ISMEM has formed two main components labelled as Antecedents Stereotypes and Phenomenon Stereotypes. The psychometric assessment of ISMEM involves i) testing the construct validity between the Antecedents Stereotypes and the Phenomenon Stereotypes; (ii) determining the convergent validity between the Antecedents Stereotypes and the Phenomenon Stereotypes; (iii) testing the reliability coefficient of the Antecedents Stereotypes and the Phenomenon Stereotypes, and (iv) examining the item quality of the Antecedents Stereotypes and the Phenomenon Stereotypes. An assessment of the suitability of data for factor analysis was conducted before the psychometric assessment was carried out. The correlation (r≥.30) between the scores of the Antecedents Stereotypes and the Phenomenon Stereotypes suggested a reasonable factoring. Construct validity test such as the Test Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin, the Bartlettt's Test of Sphereity, the communality, the load factor, the Eigen value and the percentage of variance factor in both components of the Antecedents Stereotypes and the Phenomenon Stereotypes are reasonable. The reliability value of Cronbach Alpha for the Antecedents Stereotypes (α = .897-.933) and the Phenomenon Stereotypes are well accepted (α = .706 -.821). Therefore, ISMEM is a reliable and valid measure. However, further studies need to be conducted in other groups of sample to further validate the instrument

    The impact of COVID-19 on university students’ self-regulation : a descriptive analysis

    The COVID-19 pandemic had a major impact on the lives of the entire population of the world. The effect is also felt by students at the university. To pursue a role as a student without face -to -face guidance, the self-regulation factor is very important. The concept of self -regulation is an individual’s beliefs about his or her ability to plan and control behavior. Students at the university need this factor to ensure that the thought patterns and feelings generated are consistent with their role as students to perform academic tasks and at the same time still be able to control behavior from adversely affecting social and environmental. Self -regulation has become a popular scope of study in identifying psychological problems among students towards outstanding academic achievement and personality. However, previous studies have focused less on its relevance in pandemic situations and because of its gap, it became objective in this study by identifying the level of students’ self -regulation during pandemic. The Adolescent Self -Regulation Inventory was used to collect data from 590 students that were selected through simple random sampling. Descriptive analysis such as frequency, percentage and mean values were used. The results showed that 501 (34.9%) students were at the moderate level and 89 (13.9%) students were at the high level and 1.2% of students recorded in low level. The total mean value and standard deviation of self -regulation is 3.26 and 0.38. The mean values for the 27 items of student self -regulation ranged from 1.69 - 4.21. These findings indicate that the level of self -regulation of university students during pandemic is in moderate level. This indicates that the pandemic period did not cause weaknesses in students' self -regulation. However, it needs to be improved. Modules of self-regulation development and its relationship to other variables can be the focus for future studies

    Penilaian psikometrik kecerdasan emosi sosial : The Emotional Quotient Inventory Youth Version (EQ-i:YV) di Malaysia

    Kecerdasan emosi sosial merupakan satu bidang yang masih baru di Malaysia dan penyelidikan yang berkaitan dengannya masih dalam proses penerokaan. The Emotional Quotient Inventory Youth Version (EQ-i:YV) yang direkabentuk oleh Bar-On dan Parker merupakan salah satu instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengukur kecerdasan emosi sosial khususnya dalam kalangan kanak-kanak dan remaja. Justeru, tujuan utama kajian ini adalah membuat penilaian psikometrik ke atas instrumen EQ-i:YV. Seramai 1067 orang pelajar telah dipilih sebagai responden kajian ini, iaitu dari sekolah sekitar Kota Kinabalu dan Kudat, Sabah. Bagi menguji kebolehpercayaan intrumen EQ-i:YV, pengkaji menggunakan analisis kebolehpercayaan ketekalan dalaman dengan menggunakan kaedah pekali alfa cronbach. Sementara itu, kesahan inter-korelasi dan analisis faktor eksploritori (EFA) digunakan bagi menguji kesahan konstruk instrumen EQ-i:YV. Hasil kajian mendapati enam dimensi dalam instrumen EQ-i:YV yang dibentuk menunjukkan kebolehpercayaan ketekalan dalaman di tahap sederhana dan tinggi (sekitar 0.52 hingga 0.75). Namun, secara keseluruhannya instrumen EQ-i:YV mencatatkan pekali alfa cronbach yang tinggi iaitu 0.86. Hasil analisis kesahan inter-korelasi menunjukkan terdapat beberapa dimensi berkorelasi secara positif dan terdapat juga beberapa dimensi tidak berkorelasi antara satu sama lain. Manakala, hasil EFA pula menunjukkan secara keseluruhannya kebanyakan item mempunyai nilai loading di tahap sederhana dan tinggi. Penilaian psikometrik bagi instrumen EQ-i:YV ini dilihat penting dan secara tidak langsung memberi implikasi kepada pengkaji akan datang yang bakal menggunakan instrumen ini dalam menjalankan kajian berkaitan kecerdasan emosi sosial khususnya dalam kalangan pelajar atau remaja di Malaysia

    Adolescent levels are challenging and stressful. The stress management skills for these groups are important to achieve quality and life satisfaction. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the association between stress management skills and life satisfaction among secondary school students. In addition, this study also examines the differences stress management skills and life satisfaction by gender. This survey study involved 1,067 respondents consisting of students from form one to six (aged 13 to 18 years old) around Kota Kinabalu and Kudat, Sabah. The research instrument used in this study is the Emotional Quotient Inventory Youth Version (EQ-i: YV) and Cantril's Vertical Visual-Analog Scale Ladder of Life Satisfaction which has been translated into Malay. Data were analyzed by using correlation test and independent sample t-test. Results showed that there was a positive correlation between stress management skills and life satisfaction among secondary school students. Meanwhile, the results of the independent sample t-test analysis showed that there was a difference in stress management and life satisfaction by gender. Results indicated that stress management skills are very important because it is directly related to life satisfaction, especially for adolescents or generation Z nowadays

    Pembangunan dan ujian modul kecerdasan emosi kemahiran adaptasi telah direka bentuk untuk mengenal pasti skor kecerdasan emosi sosial pekerja wanita di Universiti Malaysia Sabah. Modul ini dibina berdasarkan komponen kemahiran penyesuaian kecerdasan emosi sosial seperti yang terdapat dalam Model Bar-On. Komponen penyesuaian model Bar-On terdiri daripada Pengujian Realiti, Fleksibiliti dan Penyelesaian Masalah. Ketiga-tiga komponen ini penting untuk melihat sejauh mana kecekapan kecerdasan emosi sosial dalam diri individu. Pembangunan Modul Kecerdasan Emosi Kemahiran Adaptasi Situasi COVID-19 dalam Kalangan Wanita Bekerja di Universiti Malaysia Sabah adalah pendekatan yang boleh digunakan untuk melatih pekerja wanita supaya fleksibel dalam kehidupan mereka dan mereka membawa. Pemahaman terbina dalam kesan modul yang digunakan sudah tentu dapat membantu wanita bekerja untuk menyesuaikan diri dengan situasi semasa yang melanda. Modul ini merupakan satu inisiatif yang dibangunkan khusus untuk memberi ruang kepada wanita untuk melatih diri menghadapi situasi. Modul ini dibangunkan bermula dengan perbincangan, penulisan draf kemudian pemurnian draf sebelum akhirnya diserahkan kepada pakar untuk dinilai. Kajian ini dijalankan menggunakan reka bentuk deskriptif yang bertujuan untuk mengenal pasti tahap kesahan pembinaan dan ujian modul kecerdasan emosi kemahiran adaptasi situasi COVID-19 dalam kalangan pekerja wanita di Universiti Malaysia Sabah. Ujian kesahan modul tersebut melibatkan tiga penilai pakar yang terdiri daripada pensyarah IPTA yang mempunyai kelayakan dan kepakaran dalam bidang psikologi dan kaunseling. Seorang pakar bersetuju bahawa modul ini boleh dilaksanakan berdasarkan tahap kesahan keseluruhan 87.3%. Nilai Alpha Cronbach juga tinggi. Oleh itu, secara tidak langsung modul ini sesuai digunakan kepada kakitangan wanita di Universiti Malaysia Sabah. Melalui intervensi modul ini tentunya berguna dan boleh dijadikan panduan apabila menghadapi masalah yang sama pada masa hadapan. Malah, ia boleh dijadikan asas dalam merangka (blueprint) program atau aktiviti bukan sahaja untuk pekerja wanita di UMS tetapi juga wanita di organisasi lain

    Psychometric evaluation of Malay version of Peritraumatic Distress Inventory (M-PDI) and Peritraumatic Dissociative experiences Questionnaire (M-PDEQ) using the sample of flood victims in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia

    The main purpose of the current research is to investigate the psychometric characteristics of Malay version of Peritraumatic Distress Inventory (M-PDI) and the Peritraumatic Dissociative Experiences Questionnaire (M-PDEQ). The original scales of PDI and PDEQ are used to measure the traumatic stress experienced by individuals during and immediately after and within or during a few minutes or hours of the traumatic event happened. Both instruments have been employed in past studies in assessing the traumatic experiences of individuals affected by disaster or terrorist attacks. Psychometric evaluation involved convergent and discriminant validity was conducted using SmartPLS 2.0. Whereas, internal consistency and correlation analysis were tested using the IBM Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 23.0. A total of 116 flood victims from several areas in the district of Kucing and Kecil Siburan, Sarawak, Malaysia were involved in this study. These two areas were affected by the flood at the end of 2014 until early 2015. The findings showed that both M-PDI and M-PDEQ demonstrated a sufficient convergent and discriminant validity. The level of internal consistency for M-PDI ( a = 768) and M-PDEQ ( a = 918) was at an acceptable level. In addition there was a significant positive correlation between M-PDI and M-PDEQ. Both M-PDI and M-PDEQ have been proven as a valid instrument to be used in the contexts of flood victims in Malaysia, particularly in the Kucing District of Sarawak

    Social emotional intelligence, a combination between emotion and social intelligence, is a very important aspect of one's self. It is divided into five components which is intrapersonal, interpersonal, stress management, adaptation and general mood. Social emotional intelligence directly affects the behavior, emotion and decision making of an individual. Secondary school students are a group of early teenager and still in the process of identity formation. Therefore, it is important to know the social emotional intelligence of adaptability skills especially among school students as it has long-term impact on their performance. The main objective of this study is to examine the social emotional intelligence scores among high school students in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. The sample in this study consisted of Form One to Form Six students from various schools around Kota Kinabalu. A set of questionnaire used in this study is The Emotional Quotient Inventory Youth Version (EQ-i: YV) designed by Bar-On and Parker (2000) contains 60 questions with four likert scale. The data obtained were analyzed using the IBM SPSS version 24.0. The results of this study showed that the social emotional intelligence as a whole is at a moderate level. Meanwhile, there are differences in adaptability skills between male and female students, where the mean score for male students is higher than female students. As for the implication, related parties such as ministries of education, parents and the community can obtain relevant information for the purpose of implementation of programs and activities to enhance emotional intelligence and adaptability skills that are appropriate to the current generation Z
