Supporting disconnection operations through cooperative hoarding
Mobile clients often need to operate while disconnected from the network due to limited battery life and network coverage. Hoarding supports this by fetching frequently accessed data into clients' local caches prior to disconnection. Existing work on hoarding have focused on improving data accessibility for individual mobile clients. However, due to storage limitations, mobile clients may not be able to hoard every data object they need. This leads to cache misses and disruption to clients' operations. In this paper, a new concept called cooperative hoarding is introduced to reduce the risks of cache misses for mobile clients. Cooperative hoarding takes advantage of group mobility behaviour, combined with peer cooperation in ad-hoc mode, to improve hoard performance. Two cooperative hoarding approaches are proposed that take into account access frequency, connection probability, and cache size of mobile clients so that hoarding can be performed cooperatively. Simulation results show that the proposed methods significantly improve cache hit ratio and provides better support for disconnected operations compared to existing schemes
Location-aware cache replacement for mobile environments
Traditional cache replacement policies rely on the temporal locality of users' access pattern to improve cache performance. These policies, however, are not ideal in supporting mobile clients. As mobile clients can move freely from one location to another, their access pattern not only exhibits temporal locality, but also exhibits spatial locality. In order to ensure efficient cache utilisation, it is important to take into consideration the location and movement direction of mobile clients when performing cache replacement. In this paper. we propose a mobility-aware cache replacement policy, called MARS, suitable for wireless environments. MARS takes into account important factors (e.g. client access rate, access probability, update probability and client location) in order to improve the effectiveness of onboard caching for mobile clients. Test results show that MARS consistently outperforms existing cache replacement policies and significantly improves mobile clients' cache hit ratio
Surface response of spherical core-shell structured nanoparticle by optically induced elastic oscillations of soft shell against hard core
The optically induced oscillatory response of a spherical two-component,
shell-core structured, nanoparticle by nodeless elastic vibrations of soft
peripheral shell against hard and dynamically immobile inner core is
considered. The eigenfrequencies of the even-parity, spheroidal and odd-parity
torsional vibrational modes trapped in the finite-depth shell are obtained
which are of practical interest for modal specification of individual
resonances in spectra of resonant scattering of long wavelength electromagnetic
waves by ultrafine particles.Comment: Surface Review and Letters (World Scientific) Year: 2009 Vol: 16

On the Kinetic Roughening in Polymer Film Growth by Vapor Deposition
This is a Comment on a recent publication: Y.-P. Zhao et al., Phys. Rev.
Lett. 85, 3229 (2000). In the Letter, the authors report on an experimental
investigation of polymeric (p-xylene) thin film growth and propose a new
universality class not previously known. Here, we point out that the critical
exponents reported in the Letter are consistent with the critical exponents of
Das Sarma-Tamborenea growth model.Comment: 2 pages, 1 figure include

Modeling, Oscillation Analysis and Distributed Stabilization Control of Autonomous PV-based Microgrids
Driven by rising energy demand and the goal of carbon neutrality, renewable energy generations (REGs), especially photovoltaic (PV) generations, are widely used in the urban power energy systems. While the intelligent control of microgrids (MG) brings economic and efficient operation, its potential stability problem cannot be ignored. To date, most of the research on modeling, analyzing and enhancing the stability of MG usually assume the DC-link as an ideal voltage source. However, this practice of ignoring the dynamics of DC-link may omit the latent oscillation phenomena of autonomous PV-based MG. First, this paper establishes a complete dynamic model of autonomous PV-based MG including PV panels and DC-link. Different from previous conclusions of idealizing DC-link dynamics, participation factor analysis finds the potential impact of DC-link dynamics on system dynamic performance, and different influence factors including critical control parameters and non-linear V-I output characteristic of PV array are considered to further reveal oscillation mechanisms. Second, based on the average consensus algorithm, a distributed stabilization controller with strong robustness is proposed to enhance stability of the PV-based MG, which does not affect the steady-state performance of the system. Finally, the correctness of all theoretical analysis and the effectiveness of the proposed controller are verified by time domain simulation and hardware-in-loop tests.10.13039/501100001809-National Natural Science Foundation of China (Grant Number: 51907031
Fault Diagnosis Approach of Main Drive Chain in Wind Turbine Based on Data Fusion
This article belongs to the Special Issue Electrification of Smart Cities.Copyright: © 2021 by the authors. The construction and operation of wind turbines have become an important part of the development of smart cities. However, the fault of the main drive chain often causes the outage of wind turbines, which has a serious impact on the normal operation of wind turbines in smart cities. In order to overcome the shortcomings of the commonly used main drive chain fault diagnosis method that only uses a single data source, a fault feature extraction and fault diagnosis approach based on data source fusion is proposed. By fusing two data sources, the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) real-time monitoring system data and the main drive chain vibration monitoring data, the fault features of the main drive chain are jointly extracted, and an intelligent fault diagnosis model for the main drive chain in wind turbine based on data fusion is established. The diagnosis results of actual cases certify that the fault diagnosis model based on the fusion of two data sources is able to locate faults of the main drive chain in the wind turbine accurately and provide solid technical support for the high-efficient operation and maintenance of wind turbines.China Southern Power Grid (Research Program of Digital Grid Research Institute, Grant YTYZW20010)
Segregation of granular binary mixtures by a ratchet mechanism
We report on a segregation scheme for granular binary mixtures, where the
segregation is performed by a ratchet mechanism realized by a vertically shaken
asymmetric sawtooth-shaped base in a quasi-two-dimensional box. We have studied
this system by computer simulations and found that most binary mixtures can be
segregated using an appropriately chosen ratchet, even when the particles in
the two components have the same size, and differ only in their normal
restitution coefficient or friction coefficient. These results suggest that the
components of otherwise non-segregating granular mixtures may be separated
using our method.Comment: revtex, 4 pages, 4 figures, submitte
Transfer matrix eigenvalues of the anisotropic multiparametric U model
A multiparametric extension of the anisotropic U model is discussed which
maintains integrability. The R-matrix solving the Yang-Baxter equation is
obtained through a twisting construction applied to the underlying Uq(sl(2|1))
superalgebraic structure which introduces the additional free parameters that
arise in the model. Three forms of Bethe ansatz solution for the transfer
matrix eigenvalues are given which we show to be equivalent.Comment: 26 pages, no figures, LaTe
