On the nature of the spin-polarized hole states in a quasi-two-dimensional GaMnAs ferromagnetic layer

A self-consistent calculation of the density of states and the spectral density function is performed in a two-dimensional spin-polarized hole system based on a multiple-scattering approximation. Using parameters corresponding to GaMnAs thin layers, a wide range of Mn concentrations and hole densities have been explored to understand the nature, localized or extended, of the spin-polarized holes at the Fermi level for several values of the average magnetization of the Mn ystem. We show that, for a certain interval of Mn and hole densities, an increase on the magnetic order of the Mn ions come together with a change of the nature of the states at the Fermi level. This fact provides a delocalization of spin-polarized extended states anti-aligned to the average Mn magnetization, and a higher spin-polarization of the hole gas. These results are consistent with the occurrence of ferromagnetism with relatively high transition temperatures observed in some thin film samples and multilayered structures of this material.Comment: 3 page

Spin-polarized transport in ferromagnetic multilayered semiconductor nanostructures

The occurrence of inhomogeneous spin-density distribution in multilayered ferromagnetic diluted magnetic semiconductor nanostructures leads to strong dependence of the spin-polarized transport properties on these systems. The spin-dependent mobility, conductivity and resistivity in (Ga,Mn)As/GaAs,(Ga,Mn)N/GaN, and (Si,Mn)/Si multilayers are calculated as a function of temperature, scaled by the average magnetization of the diluted magnetic semiconductor layers. An increase of the resistivity near the transition temperature is obtained. Natural diet and feeding habits of a freshwater prawn (Macrobrachium carcinus: Crustacea, Decapoda) in the estuary of the Amazon River.

Macrobrachium carcinus is a Brazilian native prawn with recognized potential for use in aquaculture activities. However, there is little information about the natural diet and feeding habits of this species. The aim of this study was the identification of the diet items of M. carcinus based on the analysis of the stomach contents. Specimens were collected in the Amazon River estuary between January 2009 and January 2010. The stomach analysis was carried out by using the frequency of occurrence (FO), methods of points (MP) and feeding index (FI). It was observed that prawns fed on detritus, animals and plant fragments as the most important food items. Sediment accounted for the main stomach content, accounting for 43.2% by the MP, 44.9% by FI and 100% by the FO. Sexual differences in feeding preferences were not found in this study, and seasonal differences in the frequency of items ingested by M. carcinus were not observed. The results indicated that M. carcinus can be considered omnivorous species, but with an important carnivorous component, similar to that found in other Macrobrachium species

Até pouco tempo atrás, o único registro da presença do inseto Lasiothyris luminosa no Brasil tinha acontecido em 1983, no município de Brusque, Estado de Santa Catarina, e sem relação alguma com infestação ou dano econômico em áreas de produção. Mas no segundo semestre de 2015, após relatos de larvas causando danos extensos às flores e bagas de uva, a ponto de causar prejuízos equivalentes a U$ 5.150/ha, lá estava ele identificado em propriedades de Lagoa Grande (PE). Desafios no controle de moscas-minadoras em tomateiro.

O crescente aumento da importância das moscas-minadoras tem trazido preocupação aos produtores de tomate em várias regiões do País. Dependendo dessa região, a praga é conhecida por diferentes nomes, como mosca-minadora, larva-minadora, minador ou riscador. Estes nomes comuns se referem a quatro espécies principais que são pragas no País, sendo estas Liriomyza sativae, L. trifolii, L. huidobrensis e L. brassicae. A espécie L. sativae é a que se encontra mais associada ao tomateiro e também em outras culturas, como o melão e o feijão.bitstream/item/196198/1/Tiago.pd

Reconhecimento e controle da traça-da-videira-sulamericana, Lasiothyris luminosa.

Em junho de 2015, produtores de uva de mesa de Lagoa Grande, PE relataram danos em flores e bagas causados por uma pequena lagarta. Esta foi identificada como Lasiothyris luminosa (Razowski & Becker) (Lepidoptera:Tortricidae), espécie até então não conhecida como um inseto-praga (CostaLima et al., 2016). O único registro existente da espécie, havia sido feito em 1969, no município de Brusque, SC (Razowski; Becker, 1983). Portanto, até o momento, trata-se de uma praga descrita apenas no Brasil. Considerando-se os danos causados por L. luminosa, em 2017, a espécie foi incluída na lista de alerta da Organização Europeia e Mediterrânea para Proteção de Plantas (EPPO, 2017). Em 2019, Argentina, Uruguai e Paraguai incluíram restrições fitossanitárias direcionadas a L. luminosa para importação de uvas do Brasil (Mercosul, 2019). Nesta publicação são apresentados aspectos biológicos da praga, caracterizando seu ciclo de desenvolvimento na cultura da videira (Vitis spp.) e os danos causados.
